My condolences to anyone who suffered through that disaster of a basketball game. The Nuggets manhandled the Celtics for 48 minutes tonight. Denver won 123 – 107 and it wasn’t that close.

Emmanuel Mudiay, a guy shooting 27% coming into this game, torched the Celtics for 24 points on 9-10 FG in the 1st quarter. Denver led 42-23 after one quarter and 77-52 at the half. They shot 70% through 24 minutes. 70%.

The Celtics made a few mini-runs in the 2nd half but never seriously threatened Denver. Their defensive effort was embarrassing especially when you consider the Nuggets on the 2nd night of road back-to-backs.

Ok, here it goes: We’re always hearing about Tyler Zeller’s “Soft Hands.” Everything about him is soft! He’s the the most inefficient big man I can recall. He cant defend anyone, he cant rebound and if he gets touched at all within three feet of the rim, he cant make a layup. That being said, when a team goes off for 70% shooting in the first half your in for a long night no matter what. Looked like we were facing Curry & Golden State for the majority of the game. Atrocious night!

  His soft hands actually make him a good scorer. He just has to be kicked in the ass (or punched in the face) before you can get him to go hard. It’s frustrating. Why can’t he play inspired like Amir? Tyler isn’t worth “Cody Zeller money” at this point.

  Wait till Kelly is back. Kelly, Smart, Crowder, Horford…all are key defenders, all have missed significant time.

      He had the highest Defensive rating in the league for a couple of months last year. I’m not saying he’s elite, but he’s better than Zeller and more versatile than Amir and Horford. Hell, he’s probably better than Jerebko.

        Jerebko and Zeller on the floor together is abysmal. I don’t understand why Steven’s plays them together.

        Kawhi was already off the board by the time Boston picked in 2011 {although he still would`ve passed on him}.

        Look, RLC, I know you always have Danny’s back, but you have GOT to realize that even if he was the best draft selector in the league, that does not, per se, mean that he is excellent (or even good) at it. At best, he’s the best in a league full of guys who are not good at it either.
        
        These guys today lack the vision to build a team that can win 8 championships in a row. They are not nearly clairvoyant enough to draft a poor, scrawny kid before his final year in college just to have to wait one more year.

        There was only about 8 teams in the league when that feat was accomplished. With 30 teams that streak is more than 10X as unlikely even with a dominant team.

Oh well..I sincerely hope that these losses dont come to bite us in the end when (and if) we are contending for a playoff seed…this team isnt a second seed by any stretch of imagination…lets see what they would do when Al, Jae and Kelly make their appearances.

  I think as long as we make it into the playoffs this stretch will stand to teach these guys how important it is to go all in on defense.

  Brad was very smart last night by how much he used the new guys. He got a ton of looks at his young players.
  
  Can I get some love for arguing for signing Demetrius Jackson? That kid is going to make it just fine. He’s a ready-to-go professional. He looked really skilled and poised while on the floor last night.

    The only fault I have is that IMO Brad Stevens gets desperate when things go bad early and plays everyone seeking something that will work instead of realizing that just sometimes a player on the other team gets red hot/lucky and that is not likely to last. He should trust his best players a little more that they can turn such games around.

      If you’re referring to last night’s game, I think what he did was smart. He recognized that it’s a loss against the West which has the least possible impact. Instead of wearing out his players for an improbable, gutsy, exhausting win, he put in the guys that he needed to see play. Now he knows that Demetrius Jackson should be in the rotation…probably more so than Rozier. He learned a decent amount last night that will likely result in 1 or 2 additional wins.

        To the best of my recollection, we had James Young and Demetrius Jackson in the game in the first half. That’s too soon to resorting to ‘teachable moments’ in my book.

        Based on a review of the minutes played by each player, it appears that he was attempting to use a small-ball strategy to get caught up. At the very least, when he tries something, he gives it a full game to work instead of switching it up.

It was atrocious. As I suspected since last summer, too much hype and expectations about this team.
That said, I think last night was obviously one of a kind.
