Report: Ainge’s patience paying off, Sixers chasing 3rd pick

Danny Ainge is engaged in a high-stakes game of NBA draft chicken with the rest of the league. GM’s are daring him to make his 8 draft picks, and he’s daring them to miss out on potential franchise-altering talent.

Looks like Ainge might be winning:

Personally, I don’t care about giving Philly Dunn and Simmons.

A: I’m not sold on Simmons being anything “special.” I think he’ll be Lamar Odom 2.0. Good luck with that.

B: It’ll take those guys some time to reach their full potential. If Ainge can fleece the Sixers for some key pieces (Noel as the rim defender, Saric as a small-ball 4, and maybe a future pick), the Celtics will reach contender status before Philly becomes much of a threat.

And even if Philly doesn’t pan out, other teams enamored with Dunn will see Philly is starting to blink, so they’ll all start to blink too.

…. of course, this could just be a leak from Danny Ainge letting the league know Philly is blinking. And since I firmly believe Philly is behind the “Ainge is shopping 3 and getting nowhere” leak, this would be a brilliant counter-attack.

Either way, it’s heating up and the draft is now hours away.

I’m loving this kind of chaos.

Dont expect much to come of it you celtics fans are delusional if you think the 3rd pick is worth a lot

      • Dave

You must be a Philly fan, based on all your responses here you seem pretty adamant on letting all of us Celtics fans here know that we’re “delusional” and trying to rain on this hot topic.

If you really are that adamant in doing so you should call up Danny Ainge himself and really let him know how you feel. Otherwise, crawl back under that bridge of yours where you belong.

        • Dave

I wouldn’t mind them throwing in Saric though haha.

        • Alex

Philly hasent been stupid at all. They got a ton of talent now and are sitting pretty. They.made a bunch of great trades

      • Alex

Thats why the sportsnetwork csn boston called you guys delusional lol.

        • BamaCeltic

no matter what happens we will be kicking your teams ass for the foreseeable future …cheers !!

    • Alex

Never in a million years will you get that. Your looking at Nerlens and covington and maybe a throw in low first round pick and thats it.

  • Adam Stark

How about 3rd, 16th, 23rd picks, Hunter and Young for Noel and Okafor? I’d doubt they’d go for that though.

    • Alex

LOL thats why they call them Delusional celtics fans hahahha. You guys gotbto realize there is a maximum philly is willing to give up and its not very high. Its Noel and maybe the 24 and 26 pick or robert covington and the 26. Your not getting a kings ransom for kris dunn

      • Adam Stark

Why are you wasting your life? Do you not have anything better to do? Everyone is just laughing at you.

its all working the leaks man. ainge is no slouch. been there and probably picked some under the tutelage of Red. I am nervous about this draft than no other. because we have so many picks and especially 3rd. I really want to keep the 3rd and develop it but what do I know, AInge & CO spend hours watching videos and they know ball better than me. Good Luck to us the celtics.

Celtics fans have been called delusional over their view of the draft. The clearly are but they can get some value for this pick. Maybe a Nerlens Noel maybe a low 1st round pick with it or a Robert Covington but thats about it. This was a 2 premium player draft and after that a huge drop off. No one is giving you Okafor for the 3 thats ridiculous he is way mkre higjly touted than any 3 this year and Noel is possible but if you think your getting much else your crazy. All you guys have is the 3rd pick in the draft which is Kris Dunn yet ive seen some of the retard celtics fans say they want Noel, and embiid, and the sixers 1st rounder next year. HILARIOUS

    • Dave Abraham

I hate to break the news to you, but you are actually the delusional one here. While I agree that Celtics fans, in general, tend to be more delusional then other NBA sports fans, this is not one of those situations.

Unfortunately for you, the Sixers are in a real tough position, as they have too many bigs (Saric, Simmons, Okafor, Embiid, Noel) who don’t fit well with one another. Add in that they’ve made their desire to draft Kris Dunn well known, and they have zero leverage when trying to trade with the Celtics for #3.

The multiple reports about Danny rejecting Okafor for the #3 straight up should tell you how wrong you are about him. He’s one of the worst defenders in the league, doesnt pass well from the post, shows low bball IQ, can’t protect the rim, has off court issues, and is a terrible rebounder for his size. For evidence of this, please check out this link:

      http://paceandspacehoops.com/posts/19050582/waking-nightmares–why-no-one-should-trade-for-jahlil-okafor.html

While he’s an unbelievable low post scorer, one of the best I’ve seen come into the NBA in a while, this doesn’t offset his weaknesses. Considering the NBA is going away from those type of players, moving towards the pace and space offenses, I would honestly have to think hard about giving the #16 pick straight up for Okafor. (Note: I would do this though, because he could be a great scorer off the bench)

As far as Noel and Covington/26 or Noel and 24/26 for the #3, as you posted below, that is quite the low-ball offer. Considering earlier today, DraftExpress tweeted out the following:

“Market for Nerlens Noel seems to be far overstated by some. More likely he fetches a late lottery pick in a trade as opposed to top-5 pick”

      Source: https://twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/746025458798632960

So if Noel’s value is a late lottery pick, Covington would be at best a late first rounder, plus another late first rounder (24 or 26)? That would be an awful trade for the Celtics. You do realize we have 8 picks in this draft, why would we need another late first rounder, or to bring in late first round talent?

If we’re not getting a star in a deal centered around the #3 and other players, then the Celtics should just take a shot on Bender or Brown or Dunn or Hield or Murray. Okafor and Noel are not worth it.

  • Alex

The writer of this article was retarded. Simmons being the next Lamar Odom and “good luck with that” that sratement has been regurgitated for a while and frankly Simmons is the highest rated prospect I got since Lebron. Celtics fans will see the 3rd pick get traded to philly for Noel and not much more then they can come back down off the space ship thinking they can turn chicken shit into chicken salad. They have the 3rd pick and will be compensated accordingly they dont have a great asset and thats why the celtics fans are being viewed as delusional

Celtics trade 3 and 31 for Noel. Trade 16, 23 and Bradley for Middleton & Monroe. SIGN Durant

    Thomas/Smart
    Middleton/rozier/hunter
    Durant
    Monroe/Olynyk
    Noel/Mickey
