There it is… the question has been been answered. Paul Pierce is retiring after this upcoming season.

On one hand, yes, it’s time. He’s going to be 39 this season and his production has dropped significantly. He’s having trouble heating up off the bench for the Clippers and, really, he’s probably only still there because they’re capped out and have no real choice but to run it back with the team they have.

On the other hand, though, it’s sad to see this ride come to an end. Yeah, it basically ended when Pierce was traded to Brooklyn… but we always knew he was around. Now… now the clock is just ticking until the day he signs with Boston for 1 day and retires a Celtic.

It’s sad that he will go on his farewell tour as a backup on the Clippers. That’s not how this was supposed to go… but what ever really goes according to plan in life?

We’ll now have a full season to put our final Paul Pierce tributes together. For now, I’m just going to dream of right elbow fadeaway jumpers that never seemed to miss.

  It was just mostly the media that blew out of proportion and how all of them including the league gave him the Jordan treatment.

      The one when he returns to Boston is going to be the most emotional one. They should try to trade for PP at the deadline, let him finish out his final season properly. James Young and another small contract with a 2nd round pick should be enough to get it done.

        Totally with you. I was just thinking that yesterday. Trade for him at the deadline…DO IT. I think KG’s last visit to Boston will be a bigger emotional trip for me than P2 (maybe because I’m not from Boston), but P2’s tribute will still be a difficult thing to watch.
        
        OMG…think about this. I mean, Kobe got to play his final season in LA., night in, night out. Paul will merely be visiting Boston. and every fan in the league knows where his real home is. It will be a one-time, final visit. Feb 5, 2017.
        
        That is BEFORE the deadline. Can you imagine Paul playing in that game and then demanding a trade back to Boston? “Doc, I can’t leave here, man. Trade me to them.”

        KG’s last visit for me was emotional too, but that was also during the time where we weren’t 100% sure it was his final year since he just signed a 2 year contract. Paul meant so much to this franchise after those gloomy years in the 90’s and even more so now that he cemented himself as a Celtic legend.
        
        It will be really emotional because like you said, he’ll be returning to Boston for the final time as a visitor, that will tug on all the heart strings of everyone in the Garden as well as every Celtics fan worldwide.
        
        But yea him coming back at the deadline would be a proper send off and I’m fairly certain we will do better in the playoffs than the Clips with the animal of a conference they have to deal with. Doc has made it clear he will send PP back when it’s time.

        I really think we could beat the Clippers too. Maybe I’m a nut because I’m a fan, but I think Brad is the difference and would be the reason we beat them in a 7-game series. Can’t wait to see Paul’s tribute video.

  First of all everyone ESPECIALLY Celtic fans are allowed to have a strong onion on Kobe Bryant’s farewell tour! and I hated it too! But that doesn’t mean I will not celebrate Paul pierces fare well tour even more passionately than Laker fans did. So ….

    But just because we happen to be a fan of a Boston team(s) doesn’t somehow make us ineligible to receive judgement as fans for being annoying like we see everyone else.

        However I just thought your initial comment of telling people to reamin objective to the fact we haited Kobe’s fare well tour was a bit odd, it was as if you were taking some sort of moral high ground….but your the same guy that said the only thing that Drik can do better than KG is speak German….however true that may be.

        Lol, not really a moral high-ground but if you don’t “know” me, then it is totally reasonable to see it that way. It was sort of jackass comment, but it needed to be pointed out that it’s the same situation. I’m definitely a Celtics fan though.

I hope we can get him off that Clippers team for more than a 1 day contract. I’d honestly love to bring him in at the deadline to go on one last April – Playoff run.

One day contracts are bullshit!

There is no chance Pierce will be signing any 1-Day contract with Boston.
As much as I can`t stand Ainge, at least he refuses to participate in ridiculous sentimental crap like 1-Day contracts. They are stupid and meaningless nonsense, and are unrelated to the main objective {winning rings}.

Fact is, Pierce should have already retired by now.
He`s only coming back to pocket another $3M this year, and Rivers is the only executive who is dumb enough to go along with it.

Sorry to see Pierce has decided to become the “new Dominique Wilkens”, by chasing one final paycheck, after his skills have abandoned his 39 year old body.

    Nobody played a bigger role than Pierce in getting Rivers the only ring he will ever own. It made Rivers entire coaching career.
    
    Right now, Doc is merely showing PP his gratitude, by allowing Pierce to collect one final farewell paycheck.
