Rumors: Kanter wants out of Utah, Suns want 1st for Dragic

Dragic

Let’s update the status of a couple of pending free-agents who might be on the Celtics radar. Jazz center Enes Kanter told a reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune that he wants out:

But for the third-overall pick in the 2011 draft, the frustrations are about more than one night. Kanter grew tired of empty promises of playing time during his time under Tyrone Corbin and remains frustrated by the inconsistency of his role.

The Jazz and coach Quin Snyder have tried to balance time among their four primary big men — Kanter, Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert and Trevor Booker. Snyder has admitted in the past that it has been hard to find time in some games for all four, and said matchups and performance would dictate who got minutes most nights.

Kanter made his frustrations known Wednesday as players headed their separate ways for the extended All-Star break. The NBA’s trade deadline is Feb. 19.

Kanter is an offensively talented big man averaging 14 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, though his defense has been called into question throughout his career.

The emergence of shot-blocking phenom Rudy Gobert has cut into Kanter’s playing time. Unless there’s something specific the Celtics like about Kanter’s offensive game, I don’t see them making a move (now or in free agency). He’s not close to the rim protecting big man needed. Now if the Jazz want to deal Gobert, I’m all in.

In the backcourt:

Just last month, our own Geoff Simpson made a detailed case for pursuing Dragic. I like Dragic’s game and think he’d be a great compliment to the Smart, Bradley backcourt.

But I can’t imagine Danny Ainge giving up a 1st round pick. I imagine the Celtics stand pat for now and make a substantial offer (up to $15 mil AAV) in the summer.

EVERY time I look at this roster I think how much we need a PG who’s peaked.

I’d offer that Dallas first rounder next year and maybe a future second for Kanter for sure he’s young and looks legit

Im not a fan of Kanter but he was one of the players I knew would be available this year for cheap and wanted Danny to target him (the other was Waiters). If Danny can get him for a first and expiring id be happy. Just not so sure i’d be happy with paying him what hes going to get in FA.

The Celtics need to get a center this year nothing else is more important, if they can get a good young center somehow at this deadline for a protected first i say you do it because i think thats the thing that has been holding this team back for years

Draft picks are valuable for this exact reason. If he agreed to resign here, I think it would be crazy not to trade a first rounder for him. We are talking about a legit MVP candidate for much of last year. His numbers are a little down this year because he is sharing time with Eric Bledsoe and Lil’ Isiah Thomas.

I would pass on Kanter. I just dont see him developing into what we need, imo. I love dragics game and I always wanted to see him in green. hes a PG who can be effective at 1 or 2, so its not like he needs a stud SG next to him to be effective.

My issue with Dragic is more with the Bradley signing than anything. Smart is a great player who can play PG, Bradley is a good SG, who ironically doesnt shoot so well. IF Dragic is the PG, Smart is looking like a better 2gaurd than Bradley, …then wtf did we sign bradley to this bloated deal??

And dont sleep on dragics defense. he would be another great defensive companion to Smart.

As we have seen with Rondo (and will see again this offseason) the market on PGs is low. Maybe we can scoop him up for below market value.

Big man who can score and rebound but can’t play D? No thanks, We have one of those already.

[for the last 5 seasons in a row]

    Dragiccc! make it happen ainge!

He plays hard, he takes it inside whenever he can. He plays good off the ball too. He can knock down those spot up threes.

We can worry about ABs stupid contract later. This will probably mess up Stevens rotation again but Dragic is a talent we definitely need.

I would literally trade the entire roster and a 1st rounder for dragic. Love that guys game. He is an absolute warrior too.

I sure hope KO pans out eventually. To think we passed on the Greek Freak, Dieng, Mason Plumlee and Rudy Gobert for him…. So did a lot of GMs, but still…

Kanter told a reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune, “It was not my eye at all. I don’t know what it was, but it was not my eye at all. So we’ll see what’s going to happen,” My question is that where in his quote he wants out of Utah? Woow, this is journalism.
