Report: Celtics are targeting Blake Griffin

Griffin

We’ve heard rumblings about the Celtics interest in Blake Griffin from non-NBA reporters over the last few weeks. Sean Devaney of the Sporting News is the first legit reporter to offer up a story:

The likely target for the Celtics, according to front-office sources, is Clippers forward Blake Griffin. The Clippers have been weighing trading Griffin all season, and the possibility of a three-team package involving Sacramento sending Rudy Gay to the Clippers has emerged.  The Celtics would give up some number of their upcoming draft picks, but opposing front-office members say they don’t want to give up either Brooklyn pick Boston can own in the next two years.

The Clippers have 31-year-old point guard Chris Paul on hand, and league sources have said that if the Clippers move Griffin — a move that Clippers coach and front-office head Doc Rivers is reluctant to make — they will want a deal that involves draft picks and a frontline star who can keep them in Western Conference contention.

I’m not super excited about Griffin. He’s coming off an injury plagued season where he punched a Clippers staff member. But if he can be had without giving up a Brooklyn draft pick, now we’re talking.

As for other moves, don’t write off Russell Westbrook yet. Devaney says the Celtics have yet to contact Westbrook’s people. My response – what are they waiting for?

And on a much smaller scale:

Sounds to me like the Clippers want more than we got/want to give for him… I like Griffin, but a star and the two first rounders from the Nets isn’t happening unless we get LBJ, KD or SC…. Maybe a couple role players and 2018’s Nets pick or our own from 2017/2018…

Sounds to me like Doc Rivers got his rebuild 🙂

Maybe he’ll move on to the Cavs or GSW now…. :’-D

Doc prob is going to hire some coach too, and stick with GM job for himself =)

        aint karma a bitch?

As I’ve said a million times, no Brooklyn picks in any trades – period. It would be beyond foolish to toss away potential #1 draft picks. I continue to object to all the talk and rumors, almost all of which is a bunch of rubbish. And a waste of time to even read about.

Rather have RW–I don’t see the appeal in Griffin as the head star especially since we have Hortford

    • swissflix

      Hortford? Wilconshire? West Essex? Leicester?

      • Curt Hays

No one understands your comments. We are in the USA and don’t understand references to geography in other countries.

I apologize. I despise the Lakers. Jaylen Brown is no longer a bust.

          • Curt Hays

Welcome back to being a real Celtics fan.

          • swissflix

I once saw Acie Earl at a streetball tournament.

          • Curt Hays

If you’re bragging about him, you must really be a Celtics fan.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I played 5-on-5 against Austin Rivers one Summer in Winter Park, and I was the only guy willing to guard him. Needless to say, his team beat us like 4 games out of 5.

          • swissflix

Wait. You’re saying he lost a game?
Acie was an invitee for the tournament and seemed rather bored throughout it. He was just watching but once he got up and shot like 20 threes straight. Remember, that guy once scored 41 points against us as a Raptor…

          • Curt Hays

Yeah, he lost a game. Great offense can beat great defense any day, but decent defense can beat great offense every once in a while.

Acie dropped 41 in anger, I think. Nate Robinson scored 41 off the bench once in NY.

          • swissflix

Acie scored those 41 in 1996, so maybe that was against Alton Lister, lol.

    • Curt Hays

I’d prefer that Danny chases Nerlens instead. Cheaper, longer life.

  • swissflix

Reliable sources tell me i should go for a cold one tonight.

  • swissflix

If Danny gets either Westbrook or Griffin and maybe even manages to keep next year’s pick OR next year’s pick turns out to be the first pick then he has really done a masterful job at rebuilding the Celtics. Getting IT for nothing basically and getting Jaylen Brown (who was a bust according to me two days ago and is no longer now) is more than most GMs can ever accomplish in the first place.

  • Jack Howland

Don’t we need decent three point shooting to give RW room to work? Without that, it’s gonna be a full on sausage party in the lane. Which would be disgusting to watch over 82 games.
