The NBA’s suspension of Olynyk is flat out preposterous

Chuck - Red's Army April 27, 2015 Celtics News, Kelly Olynyk 27 Comments

Blatant backhanded punch = 2 games

Inadvertent arm bar = 1 game

Forearm to the throat, slap in the face = 0 games

If Kelly Olynyk’s joust was with an average player who wasn’t teammates with LeBron James, there wouldn’t be a peep about the play.

From the way games are officiated to the decision making used when doling out suspensions/fines, the league’s preferential treatment of its star players remains an abomination. It far surpasses what we see in any other professional sports league.

PS – How many games was D-Wade suspended for dislocating Rajon Rondo’s elbow? I forget.

And how many games was DWade suspended for shoving Isiaih Thomas on his back this season? I don’t even think they called a foul. Ridiculous! Perkins should have been tossed, no tech should have been called on Crowder, nothing should have happened to Olynyk and J.R. Smith should hve been suspended for at least 5 games.

    • Richard Jensen

They did call a foul on d-wade who did his whole “I’m a bad man, look at me stare you down” crap after IT made the layup.

      • CFH

…. Which was still better than JR’s sarcastic little clap as he was ejected after going for Crowder’s head. It was quite clear how seriously he took everything and how much remorse he felt.

    • art

Totally agree. This is total bullshit. What is the reason for the Olynyk suspension? He’s guilty of grabbing Love’s’ arm as Love tried to use his arm to push him away? There should be consultation with team lawyers and Kelly should sue Rod Thorn and his NBA cronies for slandering his name and reputation.

how….why…wtf….what…? Well I think I am seriously going to have to reconsider my choice of sports I watch. I love the Celtics. But this is clear 100% star treatment and helping Lebron. I don’t know how anyone can even consider this a legitimate league any more. It seems more crooked then baseball back when they bet/threw games. Absolutely ridiculous. What can we do about it? This is just blatant star treatment and uneven penalties based on who the player is or what team they play for….this is just…unacceptable. I’d try to organize a boycott but no one would give a crap…

  • CFH

The NBA does love to make Cleveland feel better. The Cavs winning the next three straight lotteries without being in them should make up for Kelly not being executed at sunset, right?

    • GoKingsGoCeltsGoTigersGoNiners

      That lottery situation was ridiculous.

  • GoKingsGoCeltsGoTigersGoNiners

How does JR walk back on the court two games from now? He knocked Crowder out w/ a dirty UFC move! I agree w/ everything being said below. This league is wack. Its the lebron league.

    • Mike C

      Corruption at its finest!

  • GoKingsGoCeltsGoTigersGoNiners

Could you imagine what it would have been like had wade been ejected and suspended for a game or two. That could have made it 3-2 with a chance to even the series.

  • forever_green

I like Perk but he should have been suspended for sure! What he did was intentional.
You guys really like Seinfeld..that’s ok I do too..this stinks.

  • KGino

Ok so, if I’m the bulls facing the cavs next series, i send in Tony Snell to catch Lebron with a haymaker in game 1. He’ll be back for game 3 so who cares? Maybe even game 2 since he doesn’t have a history of it. That is horse sh**. I can’t believe it wasn’t at least 3 games for that!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Lebron factor in this league is monumental.

I wish we had to play anybody but the Cavs. It’s frustrating watching worse teams than us still playing (nets, bucks). But I’m so happy Kelly Olynyk injured Kevin Love. I don’t care if its mean. Since Lebron is clearly coddled by the league/refs i say they deserve things like that, it’s only fair!

    • eddysamson

As a person, Kevin Love probably doesn’t deserve that. Like just imagine how that physically felt? Ugh. Then there’s the fact that its his first post season and he’s missing the entire 2nd round and will be no where near 100% for the ECF. He’s no JR Smith, he’s not a dick that deserved it personally.

But yes, Lebron and his team deserves to have every bad thing happen to them that hurts their chances.

  • Mike C

Well, sorry to say, but I called that one! Two game suspension for a spinning backfist that knocks a player unconscious,…This league is a F*****G JOKE!! Any chance we can get the Teamsters and the Mob to take over the NBA? I think we would stand a better chance for improvement in the level of corruption with them!

  • Dmitry

I say, we steal Lebron urine and take it to the independent analysis lab, bum! game over!

Kevin Love called out the league in his press conference, saying whatever they did it needed to be “swift and just”…this is why KO was suspended…one of the leagues superstars (bigger names at least) called them out and if they did not do anything, they would be afraid of the blow back…the league coddles its superstars because they make them money…if they arent happy, the league could lose money. Its not about the spirit or competition of the game anymore…its about the benjamins…which is why I have lost all faith in the leagues structure and leadership…I support my team, the Celtics, and their organization…but until the league makes major changes, I will have a hard time cheering them on as a whole. Silver seemed like he was possibly going to be making some changes for the better, or at least was open minded, so I still have hope he may do some good.

    • eddysamson

Do whatever you can to watch NBA games without giving them money, or the least amount possible. I’m paying for international league pass with a hacked DNS (makes it look like I’m in France) which is like half the price of the regular one and has NO blackouts.

      • NE_Celt

I like your style buddy boy…if I watched more games I would do something like that…but then again, if I watched more games, I wouldn’t get anything done because I would be watching NBA games 24/7 haha.

        • eddysamson

The best option if you don’t watch many games is the sketchy stream sites! Its too bad wiziwig shut down they were the best. Firstrow is okay.

  • adam

Holy shit. The NBA needs a Face palm. And here I thought it would get better when Stern wasn’t there. So basically spinning back fists to the face now set a precedence of only 2 games, anyone else who gets longer can appeal. Because they won’t have the rap sheet JR Smith has. Didn’t he get suspended already this year for something like this?

Instead of complaining on this board, just contact the league themselves.

    • Mike C

Took your advice,..Just completed a message detailing how “All” fans are sick of the Double Standard” that exists in this league. Also let them know that I wont be buying any of their products/merchandise for the remainder of 2015!

      • adam

Awesome. I think the NBA needs to hear from the Fans more on this. I tried to make mine as unbiased as possible but… you know… Celtics happen.

  • GreenBirdCro

@GreenbirdCro: @NBA What a load of crap! You excel at almost every aspect of both sports and business. EXCEPT OFFICIATING AND JUSTICE! SHAME ON YOU! #fines

If I remember correctly, DWade snapped Rondo’s elbow after the whistle. Don’t forget that DWade took Paul George out of the game and series with a knee to the head and the loose ball he was supposed to be going for was 6′ away from George’s head. Both the Celts and Pacers were better teams than the Heat in those years but it was the Heat that advanced to the final. DWade is one of the dirties basketball players I have ever seen, right up there with some of those Pistons of championship years and the others on those Heat teams took on DWade’s style.
Also, it was the Cavs that came out of the gate with the chippy play trying to bully the young Celts with little pushes, holds, and locking arms. If the first game had been called fairly and not star treatment, LeBron would have been sitting on the bench in the 2nd quarter with 3 fouls. The Cavs initiated the rugged play.
Hey Lebron, what goes around comes around, good luck with your next series.

    • Mike C

Well said, couldnt agree more about that Punk Wade. Dirtiest player in the league along with J.R. Smith, now. Exactly right, they cheated us out of the Eastern Conference Finals,… So,… “Paybacks are a Bitch!!”
