We often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics. Here’s a look at some enemy chatter from Toronto.

That timekeeper just screwed the Raps out of a win. That person started the clock about 0.2-0.3 seconds late and that’s all Boston needed. Check out the replay for yourself if you’re the masochistic type.

After watching the replay closely, this guy does have a point.

Contrary to Isaiah Thomas’ claims that he passed the ball to Marcus Smart (cough, cough), Toronto’s Lou Williams says it was a fluke play:

“I thought I did enough. I was able to knock it loose. With 2.6 seconds they are going full court. I thought I got the stop and it’s just a bad bounce that went right to Smart where he could grab it and put it in. It’s just tough.”

Bad bounce or brilliant pass? Either way I’ll take the result.

There’s no question that luck had a role in the play. Luck plays a role in ALL major wins (health luck, referee luck, shot luck, etc., etc.). Point is: the play was an excellent call, the one most likely to result in a score and a win. And Marcus cleverly put himself in the perfect position to ‘get lucky.’ And the fact is: Isaiah was obviously and blatantly FOULED — which the refs refused to call because that’s what they do when the game’s on the line with seconds to go. (It’s ridiculous — but then so is NBA officiating.)

Finally, the claim that the timekeeper (in Toronto!, mind you) ‘screwed the Raps’ is completely nonsensical. Rarely is ANY timekeeper anywhere accurate to a tenth of a second. This is just crazy talk. (Shall we go back through every play in the game and count how many tenths of a second each “screwed” one side or the other? Nuts)

  Brad was actually giving it to the Ref pretty good right after Marcus’s game winner.
  
  He was asking why they didn’t call the foul that Lou Williams committed when he hit IT’s arm. Gotta love Brad.

The ball left Smarts hands with .4 on the clock, at least, so it probably doesn’t matter.

That start .2-.3 seconds late happens ALL the time top EVERYTEAM. It’s screwed plenty of teams out of wins/loses. Get over it Toronto, you aren’t going anywhere in the playoffs.

Really Toronto? Shot clock violations are your biggest complaint about the Refs in this league? Wait till they send an opposing player (Lebron) to the line 24 times in “One” game of an Eastern Conference Finals. More than your “Entire” team of players put together. Then you can bitch to Boston Fans about the Refs terrible officiating in this league!

I thought Thomas passed it last night and was surprised nobody mentioned it. They kept calling it a rebound by smart.

I thought it was arebound at first, but it was either a pass or deflection; hard to tell which. If it HAD been a rebound, time would probably have expired.They didn`t go full court, crybaby Smith. IT was well into the frontcourt when he caught the pass.

I just saw it from a different angle and think Frank A is right. It looked like he did pass the ball. His head was turning in Smart`s direction.

Being is .2 to .3 seconds late is probably fairly standard for all in-bounds plays. By the time the timekeeper reacts to the ball being in play and then presses the button, it’s at least that much time, maybe more. There isn’t much anyone can do about it, even the home team. The complaint is just sour grapes by the Toronto writer.

I like Toronto fans because they are as stubborn and delusional as we are.

The
TV clock is NOT the game clock. The TV clock is still at 0.3 seconds
when the backboard lights up. You can pause this video and see that.

I don’t know why Toronto’s TV clock started late, but the game clock seems to have been right on.
