Brace yourself… Javale McGee is coming to Boston

Chuck - Red's Army March 5, 2015 Celtics News 45 Comments

Shortly after Goodman broke the news, Danny Ainge all but confirmed the report during his weekly interview on Toucher and Rich.

Some reaction from Twitter:

The 76ers flat-out waived McGee after acquiring him in a deal with Denver. He earned $12 million this season and Philly is on the hook for $12 million next season.

There was talk McGee would look to sign with a contender. Apparently he chose Boston.

It appears the Celtics have signed him through next season.

Buckle up. Javale is a human blooper reel.

oh no. I mean that in a good way. I’m intrigued but I just remember all the dumb stuff he does.

    • adam

Alright I’m getting a little excited for this if he plays well.

      • adam

        oh well

  • Sean McLaughlin

    WOW… definitely didn’t see that one coming…

    • Curt Hays

I, for one, am really excited by this move. I have been willing to have JMac on the team since his Wizard days. He and Swaggy whatever on the same team was a disaster for structure. I think this is going to make the 2nd String win even more games for us now.

      • Sean McLaughlin

indeed. you gotta lotta people online right now bashing him for his past and stats. The truth is, when you’ve only played 28 games in the past year, how can your stats be pertinent? This was a piece we need. And apparently his agent is the same one that represents Draymond Green (so sayeth twitter). We definitely need to build a rapport with him, in my opinion! lol

        • Curt Hays

I’m totally over Draymond. I finally love my team again. Zeller, wow. IT, no words. Crowder, holy crap! Jerebko, unbelievable. Let’s pick up a decent SG and go win some playoff series!

          • Sean McLaughlin

Not over Draymond, (FHOF IMHO) here, but otherwise than that, I hear ya…

          • Curt Hays

            He has weight-gain problems…

          • Sean McLaughlin

I won’t argue with that, but it’s definitely not impacting his play. It’s hard to find an all around impact player that can play the 3, 4 and 5. Dude’s got a nice stroke, a beast in the paint, and plays monster defense. Put him on his own team instead of the star-studded Warriors and he’ll shine like a diamond.

          • Curt Hays

Not arguing that. But you know we aren’t getting him.

          • Sean McLaughlin

Now we’re fully agreed. Was just an offhand comment. Wish in one hand, McGee in another… I’ll take McGee for now. lmao

          • Dave

We are all greedy, we just want the best for our team :3

          • Sean McLaughlin

            Damn straight.

  • Curt Hays

Am I the only one who thinks you are all wrong? JaVale is going to be like a tall version of Nate. This will be fun. We will be better for the move.

    • Jester00

I like it, low risk, high reward, in poker terms the pot odd’s are good.

  • Sean

Basketball gods kill me now please.

    • Curt Hays

      the deal fell through!

      • Sean

        Thank GOD

  • Sean

Danny makes some moves that are awesome and some that make me scratch my head until they pay off later. I’ve learned – especially this season – to trust in Danny but good lawd Jesus javale mcgee is at the very least gonna be a distraction. Everywhere this guy has gone has been bad. Keep him away from the rookies before Marcus Smart starts picking up mcgee habits.

    • CFH

I doubt that JaVale’s particular brand of stupid is contagious. I’ve never heard of him being bad in the locker room or problematic in the community. It’s just that he does really hilarious bone-headed things while he’s physically on the court.

      • Sean McLaughlin

As does Kelly Olynyk, and Stevens is slowly fixing him. Confident he can fix JMac too. Dude’s got a lot of talent, just needs patient direction.

      • Sean

I don’t know how legit the rumors were but I remember there were some saying he was shipped out of DC because his and Blatches bad habits were rubbing off on Wall. Also, supposedly he didn’t get along with Brian Shaw. I’m not hating on mcgee he brings stuff to the team that the Celtics need but I’ve always seen/heard more good then bad.

        • Richard Jensen

Is there anyone who *did* get along with Brian Shaw?

          • Sean

            The Pacers

        • Curt Hays

He got along well with Gilbert Arenas during the gun incident. They had a lot of fun!

  • Sean McLaughlin

by the way, folks, Philly WAIVED him, which means all we have to pay is the minimum and Philly’s on the hook for the rest of next years 12M contract. Can’t say Danny don’t know his numbers…

  • CFH

Don’t the Celtics already have a full roster? Will they be sending Shav/Gigi/someone on his way?

    • adam

Yeah they do, let’s see who gets waved. Maybe Phil Pressey?

      • CFH

I didn’t even think of Phil, but that’s another candidate. I hope not just because I like watching him, although I’m not under any illusions about him belonging on a championship roster.

        • adam

I just saw Shavlik’s name pop up.

      • Sean

I hope it’s not phil. Gigi I could care less about.

        • Curt Hays

          Gigi for assistant coach! #coachGigi

  • Dirk Diggler

In Danny and Brad we trust. We’re going to the playoffs!

  • Curt Hays

    - McGee is the first son of a WNBA player to ever play in the NBA.

    – McGee had the largest documented armspan of any current NBA player at 7 ft 6.5 inches until the Nuggets drafted Rudy Gobert, with an armspan at 7 ft 8.5 inches.

  • Jester00

Chuck is right watch this great 3 mins

    • Sean

Only good thing about this is that isaiah thomas won’t bully him in the post anymore.

    • Curt Hays

      OMG.

      1. George Karl makes it look terrible.
      2. Isaiah Thomas is STRONG.
      3. That swat into the cheap seats was nasty.
      4. Thank you, @jester00:disqus.

      • Andre

        1. True, but I’m sure he was just done by that point.
        2. Freakishly so, but come on! Lol
        3. Agreed, and maybe he was just sending a message…

    • eddysamson

      LOL

    • Andre

Thank you for that Jester, that was the most impressive NBA player fail set I’ve ever seen. Dude obviously thinks he has handle like KD, and it’s pretty tragic. If George Karl couldn’t get this dude’s bball IQ up, I doubt there is much hope.

Reports are that the deal’s off…. Celtics/McGee couldn’t agree on option for next season… :( Got all happy this morning for nada…

    • Dave

Dude is pretty greedy thinking he’ll get a player option lol.

      • Sean McLaughlin

yeah agreed… too bad. thought he’d be a really good addition…
