Report: Green trade will bring Austin Rivers to Boston

Remember when all the talk a couple of years ago was whether the Celtics would try to get then Duke standout Austin Rivers to join the Celtics and play under his dad?

Well, Austin is apparently, finally, going to be a Celtic.

ESPN sources say New Orleans is poised to join Memphis/Boston deal for Jeff Green … with Austin Rivers going to Celts

As deal currently stands, I’m told Boston receives both Austin Rivers & Tayshaun Prince … with Jeff Green winding up in Memphis as planned

As it stands: Grizzlies would get Jeff Green, Celts would get Tayshaun Prince and Austin Rivers and Pelicans would get Quincy Pondexter

I’m not sure how long Rivers will be a Celtic. He’s got a $2.4 million expiring contract, and he’s not exactly tearing it up. His production has not been good in New Orleans, and he’s actually taken a step backwards this year. Maybe some tutelage at the hands of a more college-y coach like Brad Stevens can coax some production out of him. Maybe the lack of pressure in Boston will help.

Or maybe he just happens to be the right salary that, combined with Prince’s outgoing money this summer. gets the Celtics an extra million dollars under the cap.  I guess we’ll see.
