Rumor: Celtics sought Lakers Randle for Rajon Rondo

Randle

Via Yahoo’s Marc Spears:

The Lakers and Celtics had mutual interest for a Rajon Rondo deal, but the Lakers weren’t willing to give up injured rookie Julius Randle, a source said.

LA couldn’t offer Julius Randle because right now he’s the future of the franchise. You may wonder what Danny Ainge would want with another power forward. His current mindset isn’t about roster needs, it’s about securing assets of value.

Speaking of assets, Jermaine O’Neal is contemplating a comeback. The Mavericks are rumored to have interest in his corpse.

I’m sure Rajon Rondo can’t wait to be reunited with a guy who was universally hated in the Celtics lockerroom.

I still say Jermaine was Ainge’s biggest mistake. Sure Rasheed Wallace under-performed, but at least he contributed something. The Celtics wasted $11 million on him over two years when they had limited salary flexibility.

The word here is that Josh Smith is most likely going to Dallas. Rondo with JSmoove…hmm.

WOAH! Its finally happening? Best bros4lyfe?

      • Curt Hays

You know he’ll still do stupid stuff.

      The “No J’s.”

Hard to argue against you right now, haha.

If Danny had shipped Rondo to LA…I might not watch another game all season.

You just don’t make deals with the Lakers. Its like making a deal with the devil.

Danny must be losing it. If he wanted Randle so bad he could’ve drafted him. It’s like he was hellbent on selling Rondo cheap. Id rather let Rondo walk then take back a gimp leg rookie.

No he wanted Smart. And once he decided to trade Rondo, Randle looked like a nice asset all of a sudden. What’s so hard to understand about this?

it’s so stupid to get another PF when we got Sully…

        • wil

i wouldnt say its stupid because its a pretty big trade chip. Randle wouldnt be playing anyways till next season. Its easy to look for teams who need bigs with good potential.

          • swissflix

Exactly. AND Randle is in shape and not undersized, unlike Sully. He has not really made an impact for a while now.

          • wil

i wouldnt blame it on sully. just saw his numbers with Zeller off the floor. and man, he is averaging 19 & 10 lol

i think its all a matter of touches for him. He seems to be holding the ball alot less recently too.

          • swissflix

Honestly, Sully has looked bad to me the last couple of games. And he has yet to have a big rebounding game like last year.

      • Sean

We already got enough PF’s who aren’t impacting the game at the moment I just don’t see a point in another. And if he wanted to trade rookies, why not trade Smart? He could’ve gotten somebody (even if they weren’t as good as Love). I get it that Randle looks like a nice flippable piece but he’d still have to play for the C’s for a bit to showcase his game and we already have a short fatass PF who keeps getting fatter.

Getting randle we probably wouldve sent him to phoenix for one of their pgs. They are looking for a bigman.
