Report: Celtics “past the point of no return” on Rondo

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) December 18, 2014 Celtics News, Rajon Rondo 34 Comments

So says Woj, but as has been mentioned before, Woj has been accused of having an anti-Ainge agenda, so he might be characterizing this as crossing the Rubicon when that’s not necessarily true.

But it’s hard to imagine there not being any fire where there’s this much smoke.

green wouldve gotten us a better return than this

  • Curt Hays

This is starting to piss me off. If Rondo isn’t a big deal, then why is this story on EVERY SPORTS PAGE ON THE INTERNET???

    • Sean McLaughlin

If Rondo’s so expendable why does everyone else want him?

    • Coolrapquote

Because this is the only trade rumor worth talking about. And his value is highly over rated.

      • Curt Hays

I guess you’ll get to see first hand just how wrong or right you are.

        • Sean McLaughlin

Was it him or zippityyay that said about a week ago that they haven’t watched a game all season?

          • Curt Hays

            didn’t see that

      • Mike C

I cant wait for people like you to watch the ‘Destruction’ the rest of the season when we all get to witness the Chaos of trying to get the ball past half court & get into our offensive sets! Please,…Please come back and Explain to Us All how over rated he is!

        • Coolrapquote

What I meant is that his value on this team is over rated. We’ll be a lottery team with or with out him. And I’ll watch the celtics with a level head and my emotions in check regardless of whether they are good or bad. I’ll be fine. I’m excited to see Rondo play in Dallas. It’s a basketball fans dream to see him run an offense like that.

  • Sean McLaughlin

This is gonna go down as a regrettable day in Celtics history. If I was Rondo I wouldn’t resign after this mess anyway. Celtics done deserve Rondo after this…

  • Francesco Vaccarella

What’s the point of trading Rondo if he’s doesn’t get you at least an all-star in return? Why trade one of the top 3 PGs in the league, someone who’s willing to stay in Boston for his whole career if what we get is garbage? We don’t deserve Rondo after this mess. How do you rebuild if you trade your franchise player and don’t even get an All-Star in return? I’m speechless, only waiting THAT to happen. Tough times to be a Celtics fan.

    • Mike C

Well said! There is ‘No Point’ to this Garbage Deal! I just want to know how much Mark Cuban paid Ainge to his personal Bank account to sell out and disgrace All Celtics Fans, and the city of Boston. “Well Done Danny,… You just Tanked the team for the next Five Years!

      • Mike C

Whats the single season record for shot clock violations,…Anyone on Reds Army Know? We’re About to Shatter It, whatever it is!!

  • MadLad

There is a small pool of teams who want rondo+ have assets for him. DA knows he can either work with the market he has for rondo, or risk getting nothing for him or overpaying for his services for the next 5 years. Tough position. Kudos to Ainge for again having the balls to do whats best for this ‘chise. Not a popular opinion, but def the correct one.

    • Sean McLaughlin

Top 3 point guard in the league is worth the risk. Cap space alone would’ve been the silver lining if he did bolt. Which he keeps saying over and over he won’t.

      • MadLad

We will have to agree to disagree on top 3 pg. hes not even close. Cap space isnt a silver lining, getting rookie contracts cheap is a better deal AND still have plenty of cap space as other contracts get shed over next 2 years.

      • Coolrapquote

Wow. Very shocked that you consider Rondo a top 3 point guard.

  • Sean McLaughlin

According to Twitter it’s a done deal. Anyone got a nitroglycerin pill?

    • KGino

and espn. Wowzers if they were gonna trade him for this crap they shoulda done it when his value was higher

      • Sean McLaughlin

No doubt. I’m more mad at this trade though. First round pick from a title contender is essentially nothing and that’s the best thing we got out of it.

        • KGino

any details on what year the pick is? Hoping its not next years

          • Sean McLaughlin

            No one’s saying yet.

          • Dave

2015 first round and future second round. Mavs clearly won the trade >:(

          • Sean McLaughlin

A lot of emotion right now. Something to digest amidst it..

    Celtics – Last 3 years

    With Rondo: 32-58 (.356)
    Without him: 43-53 (.448)

    • MadLad

not only is the record better without him, but their a better team too! NOT more talented, but still better. More efficient, better defense, better ball movement, ect. Thats not opinion, thats the facts. Im glad you posted this.

  • zippittyay

I’m happy for Rondo AND the Celtics. Rajon deserves a better team and it’s time for the Cs to move on.

  • Brad P

I hate you Ainge. I’d rather let Rondo walk than get a mediocre Wright and ANOTHER late first rounder.

    • Curt Hays

This is worse than when Minny traded KG to us.

  • RedwasKing

Wright is a nice player and will help some rim protection, but you would think that they would get a little more in this deal. I bet there are more trades coming. Good luck to Rondo.

  • Lee in Oregon

If what I’m reading is true, Wright, Jameer nelson, 1st & 2nd rounder, and Crowder…………..that’s a suck-ass return.

  • Brad P

Not to hate on Green, but now I want him to be traded.

  • jrleftfoot

horrible trade . Ainge is like a kid with ADD

  • Chris Vercollone

Danny Ainge is a buffoon! I am starting to really doubt that he has any idea what he is doing. His job is to make the team better. Instead of doing it the way Dallas and San Antonio does, reload with aging talent and continue to plug in good to great players around them, Like adding a star like Rondo from a stupid GMs who runs the Bucks, Timberwolves, and now the Celtics. This is the worst trade since Minny traded Garnett. This helps in no way! They traded one of the best pure point guards for a role player, two guys that will no longer be on the team next year, and a very late first round pick. (late first round picks – ceiling bench player, floor- not in the league in 2 to 3 years). Those that say you have to trade him now or risk not getting anything in return don’t know what they are talking about since THEY DIDIN’T GET ANYTHING IN RETURN!!!! what they should have done is try to sign him and continue to try to bring in good players around him. The total rebuild doesn’t work. Just ask Charlotte, New Orleans, Bucks, etc….They have been rebuilding for decades with high picks and they still stink! Celtics are now one of them. Very sad. Danny Ainge should not be a GM of a big market team! The ownership is weak as well for letting him do this. As much as Mark Cuban can annoy people, he doesn’t except losing and rebuilding. Why couldn’t Mark Cuban have bought the Celtics instead of the Mavs!?! If he he did, Danny Dunce Ainge, whouldn’t have been GM, and the Celtics would have been reloading for a title run.
