Perk’s Wasted Day

Lost in all the madness of yesterday's double OT loss was the fact that Kendrick Perkins had a fantastic game, and may have been the reason the Celtics even had a chance.

It wasn't just the 15 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. It was when he made the baskets. It seemed like every time the Bulls were making a run, Perk would hit one of those little jump hooks that he's developed. Whenever the Celtics missed a big shot, Perk was there with one of his 4 offensive rebounds to keep the possession alive.

It's pretty clear Perk is option #5 in this Celtics offense right now. But yesterday, the Celtics would have done themselves a favor to make him option #1 a few more trips down the floor. Joakim Noah isn't big enough to keep Perk from backing him down. When Perk has it going and the rest of the team doesn't, they need to go to him. He's not the type of player to carry a team, so when he's in a groove, you have to take advantage of it.

Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo are getting a bulk of the attention… and deservedly so. But Perk deserves a little recognition for a very good performance that went wasted yesterday.

One side note:

There's a backlash going on right now in the blogosphere where any mention of poor officiating draws the ire of other bloggers. So I'm apparently not allowed to say something like "it looks like sometimes refs are looking for a reason to blow the whistle on Kendrick Perkins"… or anything at all about poor officiating. Even though sometimes I can't understand why the whistles are so quick on Perk in a game where they're letting the other 9 guys play.

But I'm not allowed to mention that. Because why mention a problem when one exists?

He had 6 turnovers. so pierce and perk comined for 12 of our 19 turnovers
Other then that I agree, he played great, and has the whole series, the announcing crew gave him props too.

The attitude that it’s unprofessional or childish to criticize officials annoys the crap out of me. Fortunately for our readers. we don’t care what anyone else thinks.

I’ve been saying this for weeks. Perk’s game yesterday wasn’t even very good compared to how he’s been playing.
When they are doubling Perk…. we have to get it to him. He made some nice passes out of the double team yesterday.

I see that you mentioned the blogosphere’s issues with criticizing refs and the league in general.
You’re right – they are all like that. It’s like all these penny-ante blog numbnuts arthinking their polite, politically correct blog posts will somehow land them a job at ESPN.com
Chuck, John – DON’T BECOME LIKE THEM. Don’t sanitize this blog. It’s not what true Boston fans want. This isn’t some Sox “Pink Hat” bandwagon fan blog. It’s not the “Mailbox shaped women for Varitek” board. Eff the rest of the blogs if they aren’t willing to admit the absolutely DREADFUL officiating this year.
Personally – I think Pierce is tired, but not physically. He’s tired of getting ass raped by the interior defense of the Bulls and not getting a single call. It’s just plain fucking RIDICULOUS at this point.
And yeah – Perk has been really solid for two months now, not just yesterday.

Yes, Perk was huge yesterday and I wonder why it seemed like Doc stopped feeding him the ball. I would’ve liked to see Pierce have stopped trying to be Superman yesterday and kept getting it to Perk on the block. Noah just couldn’t handle him. I say irregardless. Here’s what I posted just yesterday in here. If I feel I notice a “trend toward something” , I am going to pursue it , after all its free speech and NO names were listed. So, below is what I posted :

But it seems the referees are not convinced, to the extent they still have him “a foul waiting to be committed” . Jay, I respect your position on this perkins issue.
That said – I think you might want to think about signing up for remedial English classes. That post was painful to read.
