Remember Joel Embiid? The Kansas 7-footer who was drafted #3 by the Sixers is slowly making his way back from serious foot surgery. It looks like he’s lost the eye of the tiger:

Embiid has a weight issue. Although the Sixers wouldn’t disclose his weight, a source said he’s close to 300 pounds after being 250 pounds at Kansas last season.

His work ethic is being questioned by some inside the organization.

And a blowup with assistant strength and conditioning coach James Davis is one of the reasons he was sent home during the team’s recent West Coast road trip.

So, who is Embiid?

“He’s a young, 20-year-old kid who is trying to figure his way into being a professional basketball player and learning life,” Sixers forward Luc Mbah a Moute said.

Weight and attitude issues aside, the kid has one helluva sense of humor. He favorited the story on his Twitter page.

The 76ers multiyear tank-a-polooza plan isn’t exactly rounding into form. There are concerns about Nerlens Noel’s development and reports GM Sam Hinkie is pissing off counterparts around the league.

This is a good time to remind you all about this post I wrote last week. In Danny, I trust.

I think this is a great example of why you need some accountability on rebuilding teams. I read it was not as bad with Embiid as first reported but having guys like Gerald Wallace or Brandon Bass around the locker room compared to a bunch of D-leaguers probably makes a difference. Even if their guys develop their games, they probably not learning good work ethic and professionalism.

What we saw in CLE the past few years is what I believe we’ll end up seeing in Philly. Just adding Lebron didn’t turn the Cavs front office into a competent one. Philly needs to be very careful cause all that potential talent doesn’t guarantee anything.

The attitude is the big concern. He seems to be more of a character and more into his new-found popularity. Im giving him the benefit of doubt though because he cant do anything other than walk in a pool.
