Celts Suns recap

Different Opponent. Same Result.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one in the last four weeks. The Celtics played a wildly entertaining, back-and-forth game against a very good basketball team. They looked poised to come away with a big, early season victory… but they didn’t.

The Cs twice rallied from double digit deficits and held a 114-112 lead with under a minute to go after the dunk of the year from Jeff Green and ensuing free throw, but the Suns scored the last six points of the contest to come away with the road win, sending the Celts to a third straight loss.

The Green:

Another aggressive, complete, offensive performance from Jeff Green (28 points, 10-17 from the field, 8-9 from the line and a couple of MONSTER slams)

Tyler Zeller (19 points, 7 boards) had his best game of the season, dueling with back-up center counterpart Alex Len off the bench for the Suns. Len finished with 19 and 7 including two crucial free throws late to stretch the Suns lead to four with 20 seconds to play.

Rajon Rondo was an assist shy of a triple-double (14, 10, & 9), but had five turnovers and missed the first two of three free throws with the Cs down four with 2.2 seconds to play. Making the first two would have made things interesting.

The Gross:

Turnovers continue to doom the Celtics in close games. They gave up the rock 19 times, leading to 24 Phoenix points. None two were bigger than Eric Bledsoe’s lay-up off an Avery Bradley telegraphed pass with the score tied at 114 and just 29 seconds left.

Kelly Olynyk was given the night off by Brad Stev… wait? You mean he actually started? Olynyk played 13 minutes, was 0-2 from the field with three turnovers, four fouls and two very happy Morris twins (they combined for 43 points. Markieff finished with a career-high 30), who abused Kelly defensively for the short time he stood aimlessly on the parquet.

The Grid:

The Celtics attempted only 10 3-pt FGs, connecting on four.

The Celtics took 15 more FTs than the Suns, but went just 20-31 from the stripe.

Zeller and Len combined to go 16-19 from the field.

The Suns leading scorer, Isaiah Thomas, had just 5 points on 1-8 from the field.

I still have fun watching these games no matter the outcome. If pierce/kg/rondo had choked this loss away, it would have hurt a lot more. After those 6 cardiac seasons and especially 2010-2013, losing 3 in a row what seemed like every other 2 weeks. Injury scares left and right. Doc Rivers calling the celtics soft every 5 games. That was so stressful. These past 2 seasons have been fun. If we lose 60 games and get to see Rondo/Bradley/Smart run around and cause havoc, I’m fine with that.

Very exciting game. Even though I still loathe Bradley handling the ball EVER, my night was made with that angry poster by Uncle Jeff

your max boy rondo coming thru in the clutch with a couple clunkers from the free throw line …but thats none of my business. avery bradley needs to go the D league cant dribble, pass or make any meaningful basketball plays but hey thats none of my business either. kermits going hard tonight

Not MY boy. I’ve been wanting Rondo gone for years. But hey, since you’re hating, be fair and tell us who your team is.

celtics season ticket holder. I’mt a bball junkie, I know the game and I’m a realist, I just come here for the comments to blast all the homerism and speak some sense into some of the clowns.

We already have a guy that does that job for us, RedsLoveChild ,speaking of which I haven’t read a post from him in a while. Everything ok Red?

Celtics fans aren’t clowns. Along with Lakers, Bulls, Knicks, and sixers fans, we are among the most knowledgable fans in the league. You should keep in mind that there are fan bases out there like the Heat, Mavericks, Hawks, and Magic whose fans sometimes forget that their cities even have a team. Celtics fans aren’t clowns for the most part. Pick your battles.

Jeff Green should pull a Tim Legler and try and win a novelty contest on all star weekend. his resume is frighteningly empty.

        +1,000,000

For a 6’9 guy that can get up that high with that kind of reach still baffles me. He’s shown promise so far this season, let’s see if he can keep it up, if it looks like he’s not in our future plans near the trade deadline then I’m sure he can be a valuable trade chip.

Is it me, or does it seem like AB’s defense is a bit soft after getting his contract extended? Kid doesn’t seem to be that type… But he doesn’t seem like AB of old. Well… Crappy passing and dribbling are the same…sadly.

AGREE!!! STUPID PASS Caused us the game if you ask me.

    Bradley had 2 turnovers & 1 foul.
    Rondo had 5 turnovers & 3 fouls.

But Kermit doesn’t seem to care.

I know i should not but right now I hate Avery Bradley.
