Marcus Smart invited to USA select team

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) July 18, 2014 Celtics News, Marcus Smart 6 Comments

This is a nice honor for the 6th overall pick, who’ll now be participating in workouts against the Men’s National Team ahead of the World Cup of Basketball next month in Spain.  They’ll help the USA coaches whittle their 19 man roster down to 12, and they’ll be in the pipeline for potential future inclusion in future Men’s National Team rosters.

Smart has competed for the US in other national competitions, helping the U19 team win a World Championship last year… so his inclusion in the Select team is the next step in a natural progression for him.

Congrats, Marcus.

I’m sorry but I just don’t get Marcus Smart. I don’t like his form on his jumper, his shot selection is poor, ball handling is below average, not particularly athletic and doesn’t seem to be able to create his own quality shot nearly as well as people claim. I watched every summer league game and a few of his ‘highlight’ YouTubes and just didn’t see anything that stood out as very impressive. He is a fierce competitor and very good defender and good rebounder and seems to be a good guy. I stand by my prediction that this draft will be remembered as the one we lost the coin flip to Utah or the one where we could have picked McDermott. Of course, I hope I’m wrong.
