Report: Celtics sign Marcus Smart

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) July 8, 2014 Celtics News, Marcus Smart 8 Comments

I know, your first reaction is “yeah, so?”

But according to the CBA, newly signed draft picks can’t be traded for 30 days.  So as Danny Ainge spins whatever magic he might be working on, it won’t involve Smart… at least… it won’t until a month from now.

The slotted rookie scale for a 6th pick is $2,736,100.  But the Celtics have historically given the additional 20% to their top picks, meaning his salary is probably $3,283,320.

    This kid intrigues me
    That’s a compliment in itself, I’d say

    Aw…damn you CBA

We like competitors around here. The kid deserves a chance to prove he belongs in Boston.

    WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, MARCUS!

I have the feeling we’re no going to use that trade exception…

Still, I don’t mind the fact we’re signing Smart. I think I’m going to love watching him develop.

a lot can happen in 4 days, but I have a feeling too. Our best bet I think was Asik, Houston wanted to dump the salary.

        Very true.

He’s a gamer!! I enjoyed watching him in college. I always liked his game he’s a big guard with hustle that’s not something you see everyday. Being a huge UConn fan and alum I always enjoyed guard play and can’t wait to see how Smart and Rondo work together.
