Your Morning Dump… Where you can forget about Asik coming to Boston

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

The Houston Rockets have reached agreement on a trade to send center Omer Asik to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for a future first-round draft pick, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

For the Rockets, this is the first step in clearing salary-cap space to pursue LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony in free agency. Houston has to move Jeremy Lin next to create space for a third maximum contract on the roster. Dwight Howardand James Harden are already on max contracts for the Rockets.

The Rockets will acquire what will likely be a late lottery pick, possibly as soon as 2015, from the Pelicans, sources said. The trade cannot be completed until July 10.

Bummer. I’ve been waiting for Danny Ainge to ship the $10.3 million TPE and the Clippers 1st round pick in 2015 to Houston for Asik.

Omer would have been a good defensive compliment to Kevin Love, but you can’t fill out your roster with pricey role players until the stars are in place (Damn you, Flip Saunders).

As far as Love goes, there isn’t much traction on the trade front. Minnesota and Cleveland ceased trade talks once Love let it be known that he would never sign an extension with the Cavs.

There remains plenty of speculation the Celtics will take Joel Embiid at #6. That pick scares the sh*t out of me, but there are medical professionals who like his chances of healing 100%. The Globe’s Jake Fischer reports 5 teams – Cleveland, Boston, Milwaukee, Philly and the Lakers – were given Embiid’s medical records. Interesting side note, Fischer also says teams are trying to buy copies of Embiid’s medical records from teams that have them.

Embiid set Twitter on fire last night:

Embiid Laker Tweet

Embiid attributed the tweet to a friend who took his phone and promptly fired off this warning:

Four angry red emojis? This kid is fierce.

Buckle up, it’s going to be a crazy day. I’ll be in front of the television tonight armed with my laptop and John will be podcasting with Celtics Stuff Live.

He was a laker on the nbatv draft but it was all do to David Aldridge,’s mock draft which had some interesting picks.

  • swissflix

Asik, meh. Nice player but for a rebuilding team too old. And he does some things very well but it’s not a lot of things. Certainly not a Robert Parish here.

    • LA Flake

And I’ll say it again: THE GUY QUIT ON HIS TEAM!!!

  • dk

i dont understand why the Celtic’s couldn’t have landed him–i wonder if they even tried. that deal from the pelicans doesnt seem that impressive. seems like we would have had more to offer.

    • adam

Yeah the Celtics could have beaten it. Maybe Danny thought he was overpriced.

Embiied tweet is hilarious. Now we know Danny is drafting him.

    • LA Flake

Don’t understand the fascination with Asik. THE GUY QUIT ON HIS TEAM!!!

    • Rich Jensen

They offered Houston an arguably better deal last December (Clips pick, Brandon Bass), but Morey wasn’t having it then. Thought he could do better. And if they land Melo, they did, and if they don’t, they didn’t.

  • CP37

I wonder if we could still go after Larry Sanders as a “backup” plan

    • Dirk Diggler

Immense talent. Can’t lay off the herb though. He said he’s never going to stop smoking the ganja — so I’d imagine his constant suspensions would get problematic haha.

  • LA Flake

I’d be so geeked if Embiid falls to us I may do as the Los Angelenos do and just start burning things down to express my happiness!

  • Dirk Diggler

I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and say, “Joel Embiid is a Celtic”

    • Curt Hays

Prepare for Marcus Smart…unless Danny trades up for Jabroni Parker

  • KGino

I woulda loved some tyson chandler too, but I guess nows not the time to get him anyways

    • Curt Hays

If we’d had him with KG and P2’s final season in green…#banner18

      • KGino

if only we got him to replace perk…

I hope we don’t trade rondo before I get to see him play with an athletic freak big man / legit center. Imagine Rondo and like… Deandre Jordan? Or a younger tyson chandler? I like to point out how athletic he made a senior Chris Wilcox look, you can imagine how badass he’d make someone like Deandre look

        • Curt Hays

I remember what he made Shaq look like. He made Shaq look like it was the 1990s.

Dude, I just posted up above that Denver got Afflalo back, so now Orlando should be out of the running for the #1 pick.

          • KGino

I want “Jabrari” with our number 1 pick then!

And yes… he did make shaq look 5 years younger. Also a great example.

          • Curt Hays

but if he goes anywhere else, he’s “Jabroni”

          • LA Flake

Not the biggest Rondo fan here but I agree. Rondo + a legit big man = nightmare for the league.

          • Curt Hays

You don’t have to be a Rondo fan at all to remember what he accomplished with 40 year-old Shaq, Greg Steimsma, Tony Allen, and Chris Wilcox. Give Rondo someone who can play above the rim, the end. Josh Smith could’ve been an option if he wasn’t so overpaid and if he’d had the right coach early on. Rudy Gay would be awesome. But we need a defender…that’s why I like DeAndre, Blake, and Drummond.

        • zippittyay

It is my understanding that we are in a favorable bargaining position to deal with teams who need to clear cap space to make legit offers to either LeBron or Melo. This should be a prime opportunity to land someone just like D. Jordan.

          • Curt Hays

Would love to have DJ or Griffin.

          • zippittyay

You gotta presume they would want to pair Griffin, Paul and LeBron (or Melo) somehow.

          • Curt Hays

That’s even worse than having Bosh and Wade. I mean seriously…if you don’t compete AGAINST the best in the league, then how do you know who is really the best?

          • zippittyay

Hence the one thing we can all agree on, our mutual disrespect for Bron-Bron.

          • Curt Hays

And I think, for the very same reason, Kobe doesn’t want to play with him.

  • Curt Hays

Afflalo to Denver, so now Orlando can’t get the #1 pick.
