The one mock draft that has Exum falling to Boston

We’ll be drowning in final mock drafts today, but there’s one standing out from the rest. Yahoo’s Marc Spears has Australian mystery man Dante Exum falling to the Celtics at 6:

The Celtics are probably surprised the Australian landed here, but his light body of work scared teams.

Most mockers have Exum going to Philly or Orlando. Cleveland worked everyone into a frenzy when it was leaked they tried to get Exum for a last minute workout.

Spears has Boston selecting UCLA’s Kyle Johnson, SF, at 17.

ESPN’s Chad Ford has Embiid and Dario Saric going to Boston in the 1st round.

If you are concerned about our lack of a pick in the 2nd round, fear not:

Rusillo had a great piece on Exum (and Vonleh and Gordon) on Grantland.

His tl;dr on Exum is that nobody’s seen him compete against any pro-caliber talent, so everybody’s having to take a guess at his shortcomings.

    • Curt Hays

are you on the Celtics subreddit?

      • Rich Jensen

I am not. I try to avoid Reddit. I’d never get anything done if I was active over there.

  • LA Flake

Chad Ford’s latest mock has us taking Embiid and Saric.
I will now go loot someone’s business to celebrate.
After all, I am in Los Angeles.

    • RedsLoveChild

If we get Embiid…I`m tracking down Reginald Denny, steal his damn truck, then drive it straight through Gucci`s showroom window on Rodeo Drive!!

    My top 10 prediction:
    Wiggins
    Parker
    Exum
    Smart
    Vonleh
    Embiid — Celtics
    Randle
    Payton
    Gordon
    Saric

Picking those two guys is great long term. You still have 3 picks next year, 2 the next. A good cheap foundation of players is the new blue print in the NBA. Having 3 guys make all the money is a crap shoot. Wade’s Knees are shot so where does that leave the heat now? is it 7pm already?

    • LA Flake

I agree. Although it’d be nice to pair Rondo with Love and watch them compete, it’s just not going to be enough to win it all unless we can lure Kevin Durant away from OKC. So I wouldn’t mind stockpiling on cheap young talent for a couple of years and wait for our turn to dominate.

if we have the opportunity to get Embiid and for whatever reason we don’t, i will throw up- kid has potential through the stratosphere- if he can heal and be healthy we are talking 10 years of contention

    • LA Flake

Danny’s had a chance to view Embiid’s medical files. Unless he is FUBAR, Danny will take Embiid in a heartbeat if he falls to us. I’m not worried about that.

      • BillRussell

dude!! I will be the happiest man in a 50 miles radius is we do- PLSSSSSS let him fall – seeing him in Celtics Green would be toooo good

        • LA Flake

If you’re in the Los Angeles area and we end up drafting Embiid, join me and RedsLoveChild this evening on Rodeo Drive. RLC’s bringing a truck. I’m bringing a torch. We’re gonna set this town on fire!

          (Dear NSA: It’s a joke!)

          • RedsLoveChild

            Free molotov cocktails for everyone!!!

          • LA Flake

Just buy and wear a Lakers jersey while burning things down. The cops will understand.

    • RedsLoveChild

DA will have to trade up to make that happen…not a chance Embiid falls below 3 or 4.

      • LA Flake

I kinda agree with you as we approach the draft. I think some teams ahead of us are talking themselves into taking a chance on him. If that’s the case, I hope Jabari slips. :)

        • Curt Hays

Jabrari will not slip past 3.

          • LA Flake

You just had to ruin this good vibe I’m feeling, didn’t you? If we don’t get Embiid or Jabari in this draft, I know who I’m blamin’!

          • Curt Hays

Blame Steez and Humphries for those wins…and Jeff Green for beating Miami.

          • LA Flake

Speaking of…It’d be fun to have Steez back in Boston next year. Seemed like a cool dude. And is a pretty good scorer, too.

          • Curt Hays

Him or The Blur. I’m glad we have Bayless though.

        • RedsLoveChild

If I`m Ainge….I`m trading up to get Embiid. Period.
Not even gonna bother reading his damn medical reports!

There`s a decent chance he`ll recover just fine and, if he does, multiple banners are on the way.

Nobody else in this draft is a “franchise changer”. Nobody!

          • LA Flake

I agree. 6 & 17 could get us a couple of really good, maybe even great players but if Embiid recovers, and he has a great chance to recover in Boston, we’ll be playing the Pelicans in the Finals for 10 years.

    • bill_nair

Embiid may never be healthy and he may be nothing more than a starting center, but just having him in Boston would be extremely polarizing. It would be good for this fan base.

      • LA Flake

I think the same can be said about anyone we draft this year, whether it’s Jabari, Wiggins, Smart, Randle, Vonleh, Exum, Gordon…Know what I mean? Hard to tell who’ll end up being the best player in 5 years. It could be someone like Gordon. It could be someone totally unexpected like UCLA’s Lavine or Gary Harris. We just don’t know. Well, I have no idea. Which is why I want the lone dominant center in the draft: EMBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID!!!

  • fannak

I just hope we have a clear direction after tonight
