Report: Love to Warriors deal “dead”

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) June 23, 2014 Rumors 23 Comments

I feel like this deserves the Troy McClure treatment.

Hi… I’m the trade is dead report.  You might remember me from such trades as “Kevin Garnett to Boston” and… “Doc Rivers to the Clippers”… or basically almost every other trade that plays out in the social media era.

I hate these reports, because it’s usually followed up by a sudden, Undertake-like return from the dead.  Next up, the tombstone piledriver… a.k.a. the report that Golden State MIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT be willing to include Harrison Barnes.

This is still posturing, in my opinion, until the draft is over.  It’s a staring contest.  A game of chicken.  Is Minnesota REALLY willing to miss out on making multiple draft picks in this draft?  Is Golden State REALLY willing to try again, and fail, in the West with what they have?  And who is really working in the background to swoop in and steal this deal at the last minute?

Ric Bucher is one of the biggest douchebags in all of sports media. He’s the guy who spent 15+ years blowing Kobe’s d i ck.

No. This isn’t related to Kevin Love in any way. I just had to let it be known. I mean, come on. He’s “Ric,” not RicK or Rich. But “Ric.”

    Douchebag.

    • Curt Hays

So do you like him or not? It isn’t clear.

      • LA Flake

Whenever I went to see us play the Flakers at the Staples Center and “Ric” was doing the game, I used to watch in disgust as he waited to high five Kobe before and after games. It’s as if he was just another slutty LA cheerleader masquerading as a sideline “reporter.”

        Douchebag!

      That’s how I feel about J.A. Adande.

Tomorrow’s report: Warriors open to dealing Thompson for Love

  • Rich Jensen

I dunno. I look at this as the same as saying that a big lump of steel is dead. Because I don’t think this trade was ever alive in the first place.

If GSW was willing to trade Thompson, we would be talking about this trade in the past tense. Flip would’ve pulled the trigger on the spot. That’s the thing about these rumors that *clearly* benefit one team or another–if they were legit offers, they’d be over and done with.

I could certainly be wrong, but I think Flip has been using GSW to shake down Boston. I don’t think Flip and GSW have talked trade since the GS GM said that a trade was ‘unlikely’–I think every rumor or report since then has been a calculated leak intended to shake assets lose from Boston.

And I think, fundamentally, that shows Flip does not understand how DA thinks. If Ainge thinks Love is worth three picks, a prospect, Bass and the ghost of Keith Bogans, then that’s basically all they’re going to put on the table. In the last ten years, only five GMs have won titles, and only five GMs have made multiple Finals appearances. Ainge is one of those five. Flip’s not going to pull one over on him.

    • Curt Hays

This is the impression I’ve gotten the whole time. The Reds Army writers are saying it too — “posturing”. That’s all I can see going on. Idk if I think Flip is ONLY posturing for Boston, but I figure he hopes Chicag-ho and/or Denver might screw around and give something up as well.

    • Eisenhorn1976

I have the same impression. Maybe what Flip wants isn’t just this year’s picks but next year’s 1st rounder (not our own but the Clippers’ since we can’t trade consecutive 1sts) and 2016′s Jersey or Boston pick. That would get it done, I think — in addition to 6, 17 and Sully/Kelly.

    • Curt Hays

So Chad Ford said that the deal is still on.

I’ve been pushing Love to the Celtics for what seems like forever — but damn, Embiid is pretty tempting at number 6 (assuming he falls) in the draft despite the medical issues.

When is the last time the Celtics had a LEGITIMATE rim protector? Or even one player with Embiid’s upside? I mean, this is a 7 footer who has only been playing basketball for three years and already is a premier shot blocker with an above average offensive game. He can hit free throws fairly well (69%), hit turn around and face up mid range jumpers, rebound like an animal, and blocked I think 4.5 shots per 40 minutes at Kansas last season. He flushes back a lot of shots too, and is a flat out athletic freak with a massive wing span.

Plus, those goggles he rocked last season are kick ass.

Kevin Love is awesome, and I wouldn’t complain if a deal is made, but I’m thinking “what-if” now and in the future.

    — Embiid would be under a rookie contract rather than Love getting either a max-deal or something close to it.

    — Embiid would not cost any future picks or assets like Olynyk/Sullinger.

    — Embiid would seemingly fit in as the true 5 with Sullinger playing the PF to spread the floor with his spacing.

    — Embiid could be the start of a complete rebuild centered around Embiid himself, Sullinger, Olynyk, and the other nine first round picks the Celtics possess over the next five drafts along with a TPE, MLE, and other free agents. The roster, after Wallace, Bogans, Bass, Green, etc. are either moved or their contracts are over, would be fresh with cost controlled players leaving cap space for a potential big name free agent.

    • Eisenhorn1976

The big problem is that Embiid might only play 5 years’ worth of games over his career if his injury turns out to be like Yao’s.

      • Dirk Diggler

I’m basing this on the assumption that the Celtics medical staff knows what they are doing — the decision is ultimately in their hands per Blakely.

        • Curt Hays

Um…Jermaine O’Neal? Shaq? Jeff Green? Now, if Phoenix pursues him, then we know he’s alright.

      • thetitleisours mkay

I agree. Personally I would like them to draft down and pick up Doug McDermott. Getting Love would be great but there needs to be another addition to get a “big three” again.

    • wil

i am seriously not enticed by Embiid not one bit. He is very raw, and that foot injury will shorten his career by alot.

some say its a low risk pick? 6th pick turning to dust isnt something i think the celtics can afford

      • Dirk Diggler

Embiid has an almost unlimited ceiling. He has been playing basketball for THREE YEARS and dominated as a freshman last season. His mid-range game is actually quite good and he is much more polished than previous big men selected high and early (Thabeet, Oden, Noel, etc.) and he’s actually a lot more athletic than Anthony Davis was/is. Embiid falling to the Celtics would be the greatest day in Celtics history since Bird was drafted. You cannot teach size, wingspan, and ridiculous athleticism — all key tools Embiid possesses.

    • Curt Hays

He does look amazing in this video. Also, he beats Scal…that means something.

As a parent, I find it very hard to secure the safety of my children. I am a father of two lovely daughters. Both go to high school. I can’t be with them every single time. Me and my wife go to work everyday. It’s hard to be certain about their whereabouts and situation. Good thing I discovered this amazing application installed on my children’s phones. It has a panic button that my children will press in case of an emergency. As simple as that it will automatically be connected to a 24/7 Response center and if needed, your call can be escalated to the nearest 911 Station. Me, along with my wife and close friends as my children’s safety network, will be notified also through text message or a conference call. I worry less. This can help you too.
