The draft lottery kicks Celtics fans in the nuts… again

The 6th pick. Six. Let that wash over you for a minute.

We suffered through 57 goddamn losses for the 6th pick.

Forget Jabari, Wiggins and Embiid. Forget Randle and Exum.

We’re now looking at players such as Noah Vonleh, Aaron Gordon and Marcus Smart.

On the bright side, the Lakers ended up with the 7th pick. The Cleveland Cavaliers, that embarrassment of a franchise that lost LeBron James, drafted Anthony Bennett #1 last year and hired/fired Mike Brown again won the lottery for the 3rd time in 4 years.

Sigh.

I think we’re all in agreement now that Danny Ainge must pull the trigger on a deal for Kevin Love. According to CSNNE’s Tim Welsh, Love is open to playing in Boston.

Make the deal Danny.

I think we still have a chance at Exum or Randle. There’s always at least one head scratcher in the top 5.

  • Red’s Cigar

I put my foot through the tv

    • eddysamson

Just be glad we’re not the 76ers, how sad is that?

  • eddysamson

Anything can happen like last year or even like this year with the NFL draft. I think we got a shot at Exum still. I won’t hate if we end up with Love, though. Will probably also mean we get someone else in a trade or FA.

Aaaaand…it’s time to drink…more. my aching gonads…the Cavs…seriously! Time to cheer on the pacers…sigh.

  • Thatguy

    R.i.p (draft) hopes and dreams

    • Thatguy

On the bright side, who’s up for the trading game?

  • CFH

I hate the lottery. I hate the constant rewards for incompetence (Cavs) and tanking (Sixers).

As Tommy Heinsohn once said: THE NBA! IT’S STUPID!

    • LA Flake

      The NBA…It’s rigged!

      • CFH

If it were rigged, it would have been the Lakers. Throwing more opportunities to Cleveland doesn’t help the league overall.

  • adam

    F*cking Cleveland? WTF…….

  • LA Flake

    Rigged. Stern, now Silver. Rigged.
No reason why they can’t draw those balls live on TV.
Oh yeah… Can’t rig it then.

    • KGino

      +1000000

    • P Funk

Dude, even with picking the balls on live TV…it could still be rigged. But I get your point and I mostly agree. The NBA is not too far off from the WWE

    • adam

They should put a rule in place, if you win a number one, you can’t be in the top 3 for the next 3 years.

  • adam

Watch Embiid fall to the 6th spot just like Noels did last year. No one wants a big man with a bad back.

  • LA Flake

    Package 6 & 7 to move up to #3.
Pick Parker or Wiggins and call it a day.
(I’m not ready for that whiny dude to come to Boston)

    • MatthewWilding

Who in their right mind would accept 6 and 17 for 3? Not the Sixers.

  • Brad P

I’m honestly not bothered by not getting top 3. This way we avoid the worst possible scenario: Danny trading the top 3 pick for Love and Love bolts next season. If that were to happen but with the 6th pick, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I’m actually looking forward to this team accelerating forward

    • Mikey Amentola

      That is some terrible logic…

  • Frank Aziza

It’s all luck, we can end up the best player in this years draft when it’s looked back on three years. Kevin Love is Not the savior!!!

  • Jester00

Great reason to drink!!!!! Morning everybody

  • Lee in Oregon

On the bright side, at least we’ll pick ahead of the Lakers, but yeah…..that sucked. Still………nobody I’d rather have making the picks than DA. Hopefully Flip finds the 6th pick more attractive than most C’s fans…..

  • KWAPT

“617..” get it? Anyway I have complete faith the 5 teams above us will f*ck it up somehow. Take that #6 plus all the rest of our assets, put them together and make something happen Trader Dan. Please?

  • forever_green

Com’mon everybody, we saw this coming.

  • zippittyay

I was hoping to land the Milwaukee Owner’s daughter. THAT would be really winning the lottery!

  • zippittyay

Tell me again why they knew the Cavs were in the top 3 after they didn’t the ninth slot?

  • Mike C

To all our fans who wanted to lose EVERY game this season, to GUARANTEE that #1 pick… Two Words, “CLEVELAND CAVALIERS”!!!!

  • swissflix

Well, this is what had to be expected realistically. 36% chances at the 6th pick. So it is really not unfair. Guess this means Smart or Exum which is actually REALLY nice. Again, we’ll be fine.

  • pierce Hart

Personally I don’t feel let down about having the 6th pick, i’m just mad that a franchise like Cleveland gets rewarded in such a flawed lottery system. I feel that the whole lottery wheel is an extremist idea for changing the draft order however I do believe that a specialist panel should be put together to judge the odds of each team and put restrictions on them. it would essentially eliminate tanking as a board would clearly downgrade philly’s odds. Teams like Cleveland would have a capped place and should not win the lottery as the NBA is rewarding a failure of a franchise again and again. But WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
