Mike Gorman doesn’t think Love wants any part of Boston

Mike Gorman shared his opinion on the Kevin Love trade rumors this morning:

“The thing I’ve always heard about Kevin Love is that he wants to go back to Los Angeles and he wants to play, after five years or however long it’s been in Minnesota, in a warm weather climate. That kind of eliminates us here in Boston.

“He also says, because he’s never made the playoffs, he wants to go to a team that’s gonna be in the playoffs right away. That would be optimistic. You’d like to see the Celtics in the playoffs next year, but when you had 25 wins or whatever it was this year I’m not thinking you’re gonna make that big of a jump of 20 wins necessary to make the playoffs.

“On that sense I don’t think it backs up that Kevin Love will come here,” said Gorman.

Boo. Hiss. Way to piss all over our party, Mike.

If Kevin Love is still hung up on playing in sunny Los Angeles, then I don’t want him here in Boston. We want guys who put hoops first, weather and family second.

Are the Lakers going to be in the playoffs right away? Kobe and Nash are old as dirt. Gasol will be gone. Does that team even have a coach? The Lakers will be lucky to be an 8 seed in the West even with Love.

Not going to make the jump necessary to get into the playoffs?!! Pssh!

Remember that one time when the Celtics finished 24-58 and the next year they won the ship?

    • Fitzy

lol this is so true. Mike Gorman of all people should have known that especially in this watered down east.

  • I AM A CELTIC

Does Mike not Remember what happened between 07 & 08 ?! If We get Love, Keep our Lottery pick if it’s a Top 3 & Rondo’s running the Show, the Celtics will be in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2015 !!!

    • Fitzy

The lottery pick is gone if Love comes. That’s just too good an asset for minnesota to not want.

  • swissflix

i understand that celtics fans are desperate to have a franchise player again asap. But Love is not the only option, let alone salvation.

  • KGino

Does Kevin Love even have any say in this? It’s my understanding that when a team trades a player and they do not have a no trade clause, it’s tough sh** for them. And i’d bet he signs the extension after being here year.

So who care’s if we’re not on the top of his list? We’re on the top of the wolves trade list, and that’s what matters.

    • bill_nair

Unfortunately he does have a say. I’d love to see him get shipped to the Cavs and Kings and be stuck in mediocrity but they won’t take that risk. I wished during the whole Dwight saga they shipped him to Milwuakee and let him cry there.

      • KGino

But not until his contract expires, right?

Boston is nothing to sneeze at, last I checked we have more Championships than anyone in the league… So I couldn’t imagine him reacting the same as he would if he went to the Cavs or Kings… Once he got here and he’d fall in “love” with the culture. Guaranteed.

    • RedsLoveChild

This is where we desperately need Paul Pierce to enter the picture.

Love has to hear from a fellow Southern California super-star that Boston would be a perfect fit for him…sign an extension and Ainge will move mountains to surround him with talent, he`ll be worshipped like Bird, he will attain God-like status for life if he can lead the Celts to Title 18 and beyond.

But, he needs to hear it from a credible source {PP} who speaks from experience.

      • Curt Hays

Danny, please call Paul and tell him to call Kevin.

    • frickenWaaaltah

Boston or any other team would be insane to do a trade if Love was not going to immediately sign a long term extension as part of the deal. That’s his leverage.

Imagine if they gave Minnesota so much for K-Love, then next Summer he opts out and signs with the Lakers anyway.

Can’t make the playoffs? In the East Anything is POSSIBBLLLLE!

  • bill_nair

Let him go to LA and than abandon them like Dwight did. Anything that hurts the lakers is good with me.

  • bill_nair

Praying we get a top 3 and the Lakers get the 10th pick. I’ll be happy with whatever pick we get if the Lakers don’t get in the top 8.

    • Fitzy

      lakers bottom out at 9.

  • Frank Aziza

Minnesota has lost a million games by 5 pts or less. He’s not a number one player on a team. He would be nice next to a 28 yr old Paul Pierce.

    • LA Flake

      +1.
He needs an elite scorer and a truck full of defenders to win.

  • RedsLoveChild

Mike Gorman also predicted the Celtics would beat the Lakers in the 2010 Finals…and he did not see it being a long series.

    • Fitzy

we would have if it wasn’t for Perk( :( ) or Sheed was in any sort of basketball shape, in 7 though.

      • Curt Hays

        in 6

    • Curt Hays

@disqus_AmF9yOr6Nj:disqus beat me to it. No one predicted Perks knee being a weeknee.

  • tvor03

If Love wants the playoffs, LAL isn’t the place to go. The West is crowded, their team is old and inexperienced (how is that possible?), there’s no coach and their front office is a joke.

    • Curt Hays

He could go to the Clippers. Sterling would certainly be a fan.

      • tvor03

Griffin vs. Love is a real debate. Griffin sells more tickets, but I think Love would help win more games.

        • Curt Hays

That IS a tough debate. Griffin has a great jumper. I think it would be based more on team dynamics than anything. And Blake is a great teammate. Tough to say.

        • Ron Flanders

Maybe a year ago. Griffin is a bona fide star now.

  • Herman Bubbert

Gorman doesn’t know anything. This article is wasted bandwidth.

    • frickenWaaaltah

      “Gorman doesn’t know anything.”

      O rly?

  • frickenWaaaltah

Who knows, but I think Gorman is exactly right.

It looks to me like Love and/or his agent are just using a bunch of teams now. They just want the offers for him, from the teams he would actually play for, to be more competitive, so that Minny has a reason to trade Love at all. That way they can lock in their long term payday this summer instead of next summer, and not waste another year in Minnesota.

From all the talk over the years, I would think the Lakers have been his first choice, except now he is unsure about their future. GS and Phoenix look tempting. The Clippers could probably get in the mix too if they wanted to.

  • bob

Love has previously said he would love to play in Boston. I doubt that he would have totally changed his mind. He would be a perfect fit.
