Julius Randle NBA draft combine interview

Kentucky’s Julius Randle talked to the media today during the 2014 NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. Randle’s great NCAA tournament capped off a freshman season filled with records and accolades. His scoring, rebounding and ability to just straight beast are making some scouts drool. Unlike big name players Wiggins, Parker & Embid, Randle decided not to skip the combine. Here is his media session courtesy of the Celtics’ YouTube page. Also, for those not familiar with Randle’s game, check out his 2013-14 highlight reel below.

    Me like!!!

I’m wondering why this guy can’t be better than Blake Griffin in 5 years. He’s a little less athletic but his offensive game is much more refined than Griffin’s was when he entered the league.

What really stood out to me in the interview was when they asked him if he compares himself to any current NBA PFs and he said “no”-didn’t give a cookie cutter answer. He’s his “own” dude…

      • LA Flake

Yeah, I loved that. He’s s very impressive young man.

Which goes to show that we’ll be fine in this year’s draft even if we do not get a top three pick. It’s deep.

  • RedsLoveChild

Would love to see Boston snag him!

We`ll have a shot to grab him at #4….but, #5 will be too late.

    • bill_nair

I hope he goes into the top four so we can get Exum.

      • RedsLoveChild

You wouldn`t rather have a beast in the paint, like Randle?

        • bill_nair

I’m a huge fan of Randle and Exum. I think Exum is going to be a good scorer and we need an elite wing scorer. But Randle will more than likely be there and if Danny picks him I’d be more than happy.

    • MatthewWilding

I disagree. This dude is going at 4 or 5. There is absolutely no way that Wiggins, Parker, and Embiid are not going in top 4, and the only other person that might break that is Exum.

      • RedsLoveChild

Celtics could get him at #5?
        Hope you`re right!

  • adam

He is a stud. Can he play small forward?

    • tvor03

No. His range is about 12 ft, maybe 15 if he really works on his shooting. Randle’s game is really in the post. He has great footwork and a feel for offensive rebounds.

      • LA Flake

        WE NEED!!!!!

  • MatthewWilding

Wow. He’s really articulate for his age.

    • frickenWaaaltah

Yeah woh, first interview I’d seen of him and he comes off as really mature and level headed. He handles the interview without freaking out or withdrawing or clowning around or being too excited or anything like that; he just seems relaxed and in the moment. They ask a few key questions even and his answers are all great. I know he was probably coached on how to handle it but still…

I mean I must be getting old; I thought it was more of a jaw dropper of a clip than the dunks etc collection.

      • MatthewWilding

I can’t help but think of the first few times I heard Olynik talk. This kid is going to own the press.
