Your Morning Dump… Where Doc Rivers is working for an ugly racist

Chuck - Red's Army April 26, 2014 Around the NBA, Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett, The Morning Dump 27 Comments

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

– “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” (3:30)

– “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want.  The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.” (5:15)

– ”I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.” (7:45)

– “…Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me.  And don’t bring him to my games.” (9:13)

Not only is Clippers owner Donald Sterling a disgusting racist, but he’s also delusional and hypocritical. I don’t understand how a man who processes thoughts in this manner can run an NBA franchise.

Someone needs to stand up to this bigot.  David Stern turned a blind eye to Sterling’s racist behavior for decades. Adam Silver must do something, anything to get this franchise out of his hands.

How can Doc Rivers, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and the rest of the Clippers tolerate this behavior? Have they no principles? Where’s the statement from the players union?

You might think I’m being unfair to Doc, but he knew full well what he was getting into when he sought out the Clippers. Plus, I’m not the only one questioning Doc’s judgement:

How about the girlfriend asking Sterling; “Would it be better if it was Larry Bird?”

Even Legend gets lumped into this mess.

On Page 2, KG was kinda sorta fired up last night in Brooklyn.

The crazy thing is that most reactions are “oh that’s just Sterling being his normal, racist self, nothing to see here” The NBA needs to make a statement, but this story hasn’t even been picked up on ESPN yet, so I really wonder if anything will be said or done.

    • CFH

I have to admit that that kind of was my reaction… this is not the worst Sterling has ever been. I think bringing guests into the locker room to watch the players shower and narrating “look at those black bodies” is still the one that startled me the most. If the NBA was cool with that, why not this? The NBA has made it plain that it’s just fine with Sterling’s behavior. It even let the Clippers draft Blake Griffin rather than tweaking the lottery results.

(But yeah, the players better not be at a game out of dress code.)

      • Step

I think the only difference now is that social media will propel this issue and sort of force the NBA’s hand.

  • disqus_UOqPUyk9ij

I think this is the first time I heard a woman argue with common sense.

    • Aron Meinhardt

Grats, you’re as sexist as Sterling is racist.

      • disqus_UOqPUyk9ij

No, I love women. I just don’t want you to pose with them on your instant-gram, whatever it is. Don’t bring them to my games.

  • RedsLoveChild

This will likely necessitate an upcoming, closed door meeting in the commissioner`s office…..The “Sterling-Silver” Meeting.

    • LA Flake

      Ooh..Central bankers not allowed!

    • Melvin Moten

I see what you did there.

  • Roy Sanchez

If I’m the Clippers I wear all black to the next game. But seriously Sterling needs to be forced out by the league it’s just a joke

  • LA Flake

Man, that New Jersey crowd was pathetic!

This woman sounds like a big spider building a web and pulling Sterling into it. They both sound either really stupid or really drunk. This isn’t about racism. It is about a stupid conversation between two sick or intoxicated people that shouldn’t be together. She keeps saying she is sorry and then continues to trap him! He needs a better girl-friend. (any color would do)

    • Aron Meinhardt

Trapping him in his own web of racist bullshit? I think he needs to die alone. She is the one who needs to do better. Why so concerned for the rich racist?

      • bob

I was responding to the whole tape that the girl made. She set him up because she is a defendant in a case of embezzlement from him. Guess you just heard the media’s 30 second tape. I think they both are mentally challenged! I guess in today’s world we can’t have private conversations and express our honest beliefs and concerns. Listen to the whole tape!

        • Aron Meinhardt

I listened to the 9 minute one. I don’t really care about her reasons. I’m aware of his lawsuit and the allegations, that’s a separate issue. His honest beliefs and concerns are racist, and anyone who is attacking her and defending him is using sexism to defend racism.

          • bob

Take a reading comprehension course. I think they are both stupid. Just be a parrot and say what everyone else is saying. Don’t think out of the box. Your skin might not be tough enough!

          • Aron Meinhardt

She’s definitely no prize, especially with all her apologetics for his racism. Neither on the tape come out looking particularly good. The central issue is the racist man, with a history of racist behavior, who owns an NBA team, who fetishizes minorities, and seems to think he owns the players on his team and people in his life.

He is the problem, because he is the one with influential institutional power. She’s just a person with motive to expose him, but hasn’t really uncovered anything that we didn’t know.

          • bob

better post..thanks. sorry about my sarcasm

  • NE_Celt

These comments are crazy…and if this is not the first time he has been caught on record saying these types of things then it blows my mind…as a society and a league they have come so far from the days where this was acceptable…and I agree, either Adam Silver, or someone else needs to make an example of this dbag and make sure its clear society and the league are not willing to accept this kind of behavior.

  • Rjd12345

So glad we took that ****’s draft pick next year. If Doc leaves and CP3 and Blake asked to be traded, I wouldn’t blame them at all. Disgusting.

The funny thing is that Sterling sounds kind of…desperate, at some point. It’s like he has to refer to a bigger “circle” above him, and he’s praising his gf not to put him in trouble. Oh, and the whole level of the discussion is terribly low; apart from racism, it sounds like jumping back one hundred years ago.
