Kelly drops 16 off the bench against Mavs

Kelly Olynyk has had an up and down season during his rookie year with the Celtics. He drew rave reviews at Orlando Summer League, and then came back down to earth a bit as the season progressed. But we have seen some flashes of what Danny Ainge was hoping for when he got Olynyk on NBA draft night 2013.

Last night Kelly chipped in 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in his 27 minutes on the floor. His +/- of 15 easily led a Celtics squad who’s next closest player was Sully with a 1. The general consensus from fans I’ve talked to is that they like what they see from KO, most of the time, but he’s got to get bigger. With Boston not making the playoffs this season, the youngster will have plenty of time to bulk up and do some serious strength training. And hopefully shave off that “beard“.

DownToBuck has Klynyk’s highlight reel from last night, as well as some pretty hilarious commentary on Kelly’s facial hair. (see the description of the YouTube vid) Our friend Chris Forsberg also wrote about Kelly’s performance in Dallas if you missed it in this morning’s Dump.

Agreed. I love that he went right at Dirk like that. I forgot that so much of that was right over Dirk.

although kelly has been playing good recently, he is still a skinny white kid who cant defend. whatch, im willing to bet that when danny trades for a star on draft night, kelly will be part of that deal, and maybe sully too but i hope not. kiss him goodbye!!!!!!
