Report: Green being “shopped hard” by Celtics, Atlanta interested

mitch lawrence tweets

Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News has a scoop that kind of jives with some of the other rumors floating out there lately:  The Celtics are looking to move Jeff Green.

The Atlanta Hawks, according to Lawrence, are interested.  However, it’s going to be interesting to see if the Celtics and Hawks can work out a deal between the two of them.  A Green for Carroll & Elton Brand ($4 million expiring deal) works.  Carroll has been playing pretty well lately, and he makes $2.5 million.  He’s not Jeff Green, but he’s not THAT far off.

There are other players that can be thrown in on both sides that could make a deal feasible, but I’m not 100% sure the focus should be on the Atlanta Hawks and what they can provide.  I think the focus is more that the Celtics are clearly trying to find a taker for Jeff Green.  Whether he’s sent to Atlanta or some other team, Danny Ainge is obviously making moving Green one of his priorities as the trade deadline approaches.

This will be something to watch over the next 11 days.  The odds of Jeff Green finishing this season in Boston just dropped by a bunch.  The odds of him finishing out the next two years of his deal seem slim.

Can’t we get a better deal, really?!
Personally, I would prefer trading with the West.

Perhaps the idea of trading with the Hawks is to get them to give the Celtics the rights to their 1st round pick this season — so the Celtics would get the BRK pick AND the ATL pick, not just the worst of the two.

Green for expiring contracts and a mid-1st might be the best we can expect.

Agreed plus it adds a couple possible losses for tanking purposes as it removes the threat of “Asshole Green” games. I’d like to see Green stay in Boston to eventually become the third best guy in the team, but this might be far from happening

That’s so cheap, even for a disappearing act such as Uncle Green, don’t you think?

      • Alex Peters

Not really, especially if the Celtics wanted to trade up to get a player. The Brooklyn + Atlanta picks could be packaged back into the lottery maybe.

This would be a step forward to both hard tanking and hard ca$h shaving…

Why would the Suns do this?

      • jamoalki

Because they want to take on more salary while losing one game.

This is the best celtics news I’ve heard in a long time. I really hope this happens.

Its probably close value to what hes worth but I still don’t think its enough. We need atleast a decent pick or solid young prospect with some potential. I dont want to get rid of him for almost nothing.

Well I don’t like MLawrence at all, so……..Green did have another one of those AHole nights vs the Bucks. Love it.
