Recap: Sullinger’s career night leads Celtics over Kings

Chuck - Red's Army February 7, 2014 Jared Sullinger, Recaps 14 Comments

Make it three straight wins for the Celtics. Even without Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley, the Celtics had enough to beat the Kings, 99-89.

How much fun was it watching Jared Sullinger go toe-to-toe with DeMarcus Cousins? Each dropped 31 points and 16 rebounds. The big difference was that Cousins (13 points in 1st) started strong, while Sullinger finished strong (14 points, 5 rebounds in 4th). These guys couldn’t be more different. Cousins is long, naturally athletic and flat-out smooth, while Sullinger is a crafty, dirty-work kind of guy. I’d love to see a personal rivalry develop between these guys.

Rondo sat out with “general soreness” and Bradley rested his right ankle.

The Green:

Gerald Wallace (8 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals in 40 minutes) had his best game in a Celtics uniform.

Kelly Olynyk (11 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists) must have had a Red Bull before tip-off.

Jerryd Bayless had 19 points (4-5 3 FG). He also got into a small scrap with Isaiah Thomas that resulted in double-technical fouls.

The Gross:

Jeff Green needed 20 shots to score 17 points. Brandon Bass was 1-8 and a team high -11.

Greenlights:

The Grid:

  • Sullinger’s 31 points is a career high
  • Joel Anthony logged 7 minutes and 49 seconds, his most in a Celtics uniform
  • Sacramento shot 35%

Whatever Kelly did before the game, he needs to keep doing it. Gerald Wallace had a great game. Hopefully he keeps it up. I hope Sully ends up being a Celtic for life, I’m so glad we got him.

Would love to see a Sully-Cousins rivalry. Kings & C’s don’t play often enough, so maybe Cousins makes his way out of Sactown to the Eastern Conference one days o they can play more.

Would love to see them pairing up! Don’t say it would work out but it is so intriguing, isn’t it?

Sully has been the best player on the Celtics all year. I was really impressed with him during his first half of his rookie campaign as well, although i remember quite a few people claiming “to big, to slow to short” Just another case that you would rather have a player that can play than someone with all the athletic and physical attributes in the world

So what’s the plan – are we tanking or not?? Fun wins against teams in despair mask our weaknesses. And Hump benched again. I’m not so sure this makes sense in the long run.

Hump was apparently late for shootaround (I think that tidbit is in Forsberg’s writeup)

Seriously, the iPad layout just stinks. If it ain’t broke. . . Break it, apparently.

Details please. What exactly don’t you like?

more than half the page is covered by ads, the words are probably in a 1″ column

I had to log in to my computer to even respond to your post, because I couldn’t scroll down to my comment. You can only read the first two or three comments on the iPad, then there’s an ad and the comments won’t scroll any further. The iPad version used to look just like the version on my Mac – no difference. Now it looks totally different. Have you logged in from an iPad and seen it yourself? The navigation is different, the newsfeed is different. It’s not an improvement at all.

same for my Nexus 7, I mentioned that in another title

sadly same with iphone—covered w/ ads and weird to navigate and hard to see comments.

Has Quincey Acy been fined by the NBA yet for that cheap shot against KO?
