Recap: The Celtics were so bad, I think they lost on purpose

The Celtics have subjected us to some woeful performances this season, but tonight’s 114-88 drubbing in New York takes the cake. There was very little effort and even less execution. It’s a perfect 10 on the tank-o-meter.

Brad Stevens summed up his team’s performance perfectly during the halftime interview with Abby Chin:

AC: Where are the breakdowns happening?

BS: Everywhere. We’re broken down.

The Green

The Gross

Rajon Rondo (7 points, 3-13 FG, 4 TO, -24) continues to struggle. Before you start to panic, remind yourself that he missed 9 months with a torn ACL. He’ll find his timing.

There’s nothing worthy but check out Paul Pierce drain consecutive half-court shots during warm-ups Sunday night. Cool…

The Grid:

  •  Gerald Wallace was a team high -27

So what’s the final verdict? Was that the worst loss of the season? Worse than Houston or Denver?

i think we suck right now because we don’t have a team identity. this is not a team built to win games.

We haven’t looked like an actual basketball team for the last 3 games. I thought Stevens said the team plays were meant for Rondo. Every time we could get in transition he slows it down and nobody moves. This is getting so hard to watch. Can it be June 5th yet??? (Draft lottery day)

Oh yea and our interior D is a joke!

  • Roy Sanchez

Rondo is in full tank mode

My eyes!!! They burn!!! This was just a sad sad game. Only upside, I like what I am seeing from Johnson.

New mobile version of site is terrible… I have ads smack dab in the middle of your articles now

Look at our team… We have 2 D League players and 3 rookies, an injury to our best scorer, an injury to our best rebounder/low post presence, our overall best player getting back into game shape/timing, a potential all star who can rarely ever tap into that potential, a few disgruntled veterans, and a handful of mediocre role players…

They’re gonna be HORRIBLE to watch for the next 2-3 weeks or so, until AB comes back and Rondo is somewhat back to his old self.

I bet this is really tough on Brad Stevens. For a guy who is used to being the best, he’s getting slaughtered by Danny Ainge.

What is the feeling on how long it will take RR to achieve his new, post-surgery standard level of performance? Is it 15 games? 30 games? Training camp 2014/15?? According to, his jump shot FG% since his return is 30% (which includes 3 for 12 on 3-point attempts). RR is a poor shooter but not THIS bad. While some feared that Rondy’s return would trigger winning, RR is actually enhancing the C’s chances of losing!!!! What a turn of events.

Trade Olynyk for a mouthpiece and a headband.

Haha Pierce hit those shots effortlessly. He knew it too when he walked away from the second one.
