Celtics to appeal one of Sullinger’s flagrant fouls

I agree with Danny Ainge. Sullinger got a lot of ball on the Hickson foul. It looks worse because he brought down both arms and Hickson’s momentum is what really sent him flying. At least that’s how I see it from my green tinted glasses. Gerald Wallace is a fan of Sullinger’s rough play:

“I’m just happy to at least see someone from our bigs give a hard foul,” said Wallace. “He’s the only big willing to give a hard foul to not give up a layup. I’ll take that all day. We shouldn’t allow the other team’s guards to lay it up and dunk on us. I applaud him for that.”

Asked if he was worried Sullinger would curtail his physical play as a result, Wallace shook his head.

“I don’t think so, you know what I’m saying?” said the veteran Celtics forward. “If you’re going to build a reputation for being a hard-nosed player, you have to keep it going. It’s not like he’s going out there trying to hurt people or intentionally knock people out. He’s playing hard in the paint. A lot of bigs do that. Hopefully it turns around for us.”

As Chris mentioned in the Dump, Jared Sullinger is one flagrant foul away from getting a suspension.

As for Marshon Brooks, Murphy reports he’ll be back with the team on Friday against Golden State. Yippee.

First one def should not have been flagrant. When they show the replay he got so much ball… It looked worse in real time (I initially thought flagrant, but not after seeing slow mo replay). Refs should have seen that too.

A flagrant 1 is defined as unnecessary contact… usually when a player “swings and makes hard contact with the offensive player or follows through”… nothing unnecessary about slapping the ball out of someones hands. Sure he wound up for it, but he connected with enough ball that it wasn’t “hard contact with the offensive player.”

i don’t know about the 2nd one either. how many times have we seen Dirk clear out space with his elbows at people’s head area?

He made direct contact elbow to head, and to top it off it looked like he was trying to do that. That is DEFINITELY a flagrant.

    • Brick James

Try not elbowing someone above the shoulders when you’re 7’1″. Dirk does it on the perimeter when people are in his shorts playing “defense”. Sully took a cheap shot here.

Sullinger needs to show more composure. I don’t want to point to the offseason issues, but the 2nd F1 was clearly out of frustration. Gotta control yourself if you wanna be a pro.

I would say that its easy to sit back and say the guy has to show more composure when he is battling players and most times coming out with unwarranted foul calls against him. And looking like well darn it what am I allowed to do? Jared is playing through pain and is a grit and balls grinder type player. Just what this team needs. A little beef with the flash of the other guys. He isn’t out there trying to hurt guys but thank goodness he isn’t allowing himself to get dunked on every night.
