The Celtics released a brief statement today announcing MarShon Brooks will be joining the Maine Red Claws

BOSTON – The Boston Celtics announced today that they have assigned guard MarShon Brooks to their NBA Development League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.

Brooks, a 6’5” guard, has appeared in nine games for the Celtics this season posting averages of 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 6.8 minutes per game. Brooks recorded a season-high of eight points twice (December 8 at New York and November 16 at Minnesota) and recorded a season-high five rebounds against Indiana on December 22.

Brooks has the potential to be solid scorer in the NBA.  Advocates of more playing time for Brooks point to his nearly 13 points per game average during his rookie year as proof that he can be a solid NBA player.  However, he was a volume scorer, needing 11.4 shots per game to average 12.6 points.  His PER that season was the lowest of his career, as was his True Shooting percentage.

Brooks wasn’t getting any minutes right now, and there are no minutes on the horizon for him either.  Jordan Crawford and Avery Bradley are entrenched as starters until Rajon Rondo returns, and Courtney Lee is having a very good year off the bench.  Unless some combination of those guys play their way into an attractive trade package for a contending team, there will be no minutes for Brooks.  He might as well go to Portland and get the rust off his game.

They hopefully did that to sign someone else maybe not cause we still have a roster spot with him on the team plays they want to stay under the cap. Prob just want him to get better but man they killed his value teams woulda gave up a first round pick for him last year.

Or maybe they are making a move and needed a extra roster spot.

I dunno if they are just buddies or if Stevens has some plan for the two of them together,,,

Take away Kobe Bryant`s talent, drive, determination, mental toughness, competitive fire, iron will….and you`re left with MarShon Brooks.

“Volume shooter” is merely a euphemism for a “selfish gunner who shoots often and inaccurately”.
