Recap: Crawford-Pressey point guard combo leads Celtics over Cats

Chuck - Red's Army November 25, 2013 Jordan Crawford, Phil Pressey, Recaps 17 Comments

How’s this for point guard production in 48 minutes: 23 points, 13 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 TOs?

That’s the combined stat line for Jordan Crawford (21 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds) and Phil Pressey (2 points, 8 assists, 3 steals). Rondo who?

The Celtics ripped off two key runs in this game; a 17-2 stretch at the start of the 2nd quarter that turned a 7-point deficit into an 8 point lead, and a 9-0 run at the start of the 4th quarter that turned a tight game into an 11-point cushion.

Boston wins its second straight, 96-86 over the Bobcats.

In my game preview, I tabbed Courtney Lee vs Ramon Sessions as the wildcard match-up. Lee (13 points, 4-7 FG) easily outplayed Sessions (5 points, 1-7 FG).

The Green:

I touted Crawford and Pressey in my intro, but Brandon Bass and Gerald Wallace also stepped up and delivered solid performances. Props to Kris Humphries and the Celtics interior defense for limiting Al Jefferson to 14 points and 3 rebounds.

How’s this for ball protection – C’s with only 11 turnovers.

The Gross:

Avery Bradley was 1-6 FG in 9 minutes. Jared Sullinger – sports a wrap on his thumb/wrist – had 5 points on 2-9 shooting.

Greenlights:

Sullinger feeds Bradley for the dunk

The Grid:

  • Boston outscored Charlotte 33-17 in 2nd quarter
  • Marshon Brooks was the only Celtic to record a DNP-CD

C’s get it done whenever they keep the turnovers under 14. Props to Courtney Lee. He’s quietly finding a niche as an effective & efficient player in short spurts/blasts. Perhaps Stevens has found the perfect role for him. Nice job by Boston on not letting Big Al kill them too. Was a bit worried Walker was going to take over though-what a 3rd quarter by that kid. Nice win.

Yup, but… Lee is paid much more then ordinary reserve, wouldn’t you agree?

      • KWAPT

        Of course..

Caught later part of the game did bradley get injured why nine minutes?

    • Rjd12345

He got in foul trouble early and couldn’t get his shot to fall. Pressey was solid and earned extended minutes. In crunch time Crawford/Green/Wallace were working well together and Stevens stuck with it for the W. Nothing to worry about. Seemed more like a night to get AB some rest more than anything.

Jordan Crawford is my early favorite for ‘most improved player’.

Nice of those 1500 people to show up for tonight’s game…..how does Charlotte still have a team?

    • Paul Pierce

Because The NBA wouldn’t dare take away a team run by Michael Jordan. Especially where he grew up and currently lives. The guys “never have to pay for a drink” card has been turned into a “let him run a franchise into the ground” card.

    • Paul Pierce

And as far as Crawford being The Celtics most improved player from last season to present, he gets my vote as of today too. But to analyze the MIP award objectively, is there actually anyone doing that much better than they were last season than Crawford is? I’d like to see some stats. Crawford could actually be a legitimate contender in that category for sure.

Roy hibbert and lance Stevenson to huge leaps in there play also. But I’d have to say Eric Bledsoe wins even though everyone we he was this good it’s just such a huge jump in his numbers to ignore. I think at one point last year Crawford was averaging twenty points a game when he was starting but he definately fine tuned his game.

What’s the matter with Marshon’s DNP-CDs? He can play, no? AND he’s young

#celtics Asst Jim Larranaga is really working with MarShon Brooks on his defense”

Maybe once his defense has improved Stevens will give him a shot. I doubt Larranaga would put the effort in if Stevens wasn’t willing to give him a chance.

Phil Pressey high on assists, and low on turnovers. A guard on point. As usual. Love that kid.

Glad we won. Glad to see Pressey get extended minutes and play well. Crawford keeps impressing me. Good game.
