The Celtics played fantastic basketball for 2 1/2 quarters tonight. The offense was crisp and efficient. They pushed the tempo. They relentlessly attacked the offensive glass. The result was a 22-point lead (72-50) midway through the 3rd quarter.

And then it all stopped. Everything stopped.

The Celtics offense devolved as the game wore on. The fast break opportunities disappeared. The half-court offense resembled a one-on-five contest.  Meanwhile, the Bucks just kept chipping away. The Celtics frustration with their own play was enhanced by the Zaza Pachulia (20 points, 9 rebounds) flopfest. Milwaukee outscored Boston 34-15 in the 4th quarter en route to the 105-98 victory.

It’s impossible to win in this league without a point guard and an elite scorer. Even when the guys are playing tremendous team ball, they’ll inevitably need someone to control the offense and/or make difficult shots.

Did you see Gerald Wallace’s facial expression as the game ended? I bet he was thinking – “This is going to be a crappy season.”

The Green

Vitor Faverani! Holy sh*t, this dude can play. His stat line: 12 points, 18 rebounds and 6 blocks.

Brandon Bass had 17 points (6-11 FG) and 9 rebounds. I loved the aggression on offense.

Rajon Rondo addressed the fans prior to tip-off wearing a fake beard. A bad fake beard, but it was a cool tribute to the Red Sox.

The Gross

Avery Bradley fouled out with 8 points on 4-14 FG. Jeff Green started strong but finished with just 13 points.

It’s not really fair to highlight two guys when the entire team collapsed in the 2nd half.

Going for the moral victories this year….Faverani!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TNCeltic

Pierce and Garnett just beat Lebron . . So tonight is not a total loss. . .

    • Christopher Jones

Seeing Benedict Allen miss his second FTA and The Truth rebound it and sink his subsequent two FTAs towards the end of the game made my night a lot better.

  • KWAPT

Vitor was fantastic. Can’t wait to watch him get better as he gets more NBA minutes/experience. Turnovers, missed FT’s & the lack of a true ball-handler killed us in 4th. That, and the C’s stopped running-just pounded the ball and stood around. Surprised Stevens didn’t put Pressey in to speed things up or at least move the ball more.

Vitor for MVP, Rookie of the year, and Defensive player of the year!

We finally have a defensive stopper inside. Still need a point guard!

    • Curt Hays

The thing I noticed with Vitor…it’s not that “this dude can play”. It’s more like “this dude PLAYS”. He just executes. He turns and looks for a guy to block out. I am telling the bigs on the team I coach to watch Fav, and do what he does.

      • KWAPT

Exactly. He gets it. The guy is a natural talent who plays the game the “right way”.

  • Jo

Embrace the suck, it’s going to be a long season. Fav is fantastic, wouldve been alot of help in the KG era. And it starting to look like Bass wasn’t really in a slump last year, Doc misused him.

  • ShawnCVD

Didn’t take long for Stevens to determine that the former Mr Kardashian is terrible… Hey Kris! It’s a contract year for you and DA may want to trade you to a contender! That’s impossible if your riding the pine!

Well if he can’t go at least our young bigs will get some burn and perhaps Bass will be moved…

For those of us scoring the C’s seem to be doing something right considering the seeding they’re going for (Lottery or Bust)

    • Andy

I think its more a matter of just too many guys in front of him. He played fine on wednesday but Sully is younger and has an actual future with the C’s. KO getting pt over him because he can play center.

  • wil

So who do you guys think wallace was pissed off at? lol i dont think anyone was stat padding.

  • I bleed green in L.A.

Crushing loss? No, more ping pong balls please.

  • ming_mow2

you can’t blew out 22 points playing to win but if you play to lose then it’s possible. Cs are obviously tanking it

  • Caterpillar from Italy

It’s gonna be a long, painful season..

  • Andy

Did anyone else thing think that Stevens put the starters back in a little too early in the 4th? Think they kinda ran out of gas playing almost the whole quarter. Also Olynyk fouling on the half court heave was a killer.
