Your Morning Dump..Where Ron Adams Is In Celtics’ Fold As Assistant

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

raFormer Chicago Bulls lead assistant coach Ron Adams, widely considered one of the top assistants in the NBA, will be joining the Celtics in a similar role, a league source confirmed to the Globe Monday.

Adams has more than two decades of NBA experience, making him a valuable addition for Celtics coach Brad Stevens, who has none.

“He’s as good as there is in the business,” an NBA head coach said of Adams. “He’ll help Brad out a lot. It’s a great hire.”

Boston has added another staff member to Brad Stevens’ coaching team. Ron Adams, who served as an assistant to Tom Thibodeau with Chicago, was being targeted by other NBA teams, including Doc Rivers’ Clippers.

Adams was sought after by several other teams, including, a league source said, the Los Angeles Clippers, who are now coached by former Celtics coach Doc Rivers. Adams also had coaching stints with the 76ers, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Milwaukee Bucks.

It’s expected that Stevens will add one or two more coaches to his staff this offeseason.

And if Thibodeau likes this guy that much, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the real deal. Adams is known as a “defensive guru” around the league. Chicago GM Gar Forman let go of Thib’s lead assistant  this offseason, something that reportedly did not sit well with Thibodeau.

In Chicago, Adams was the lead assistant to Tom Thibodeau, the former Celtics assistant coach and Adams’s longtime friend.

The Bulls did not renew Adams’s contract this offseason, though it was unclear why.

In Boston, Adams joins a staff that includes assistants Jay Larranaga and Jamie Young, who were with the Celtics last season, as well as Micah Shrewsberry, who was Stevens’s assistant at Butler University. Shrewsberry was most recently an assistant coach at Purdue.

However, the Celtics could lose Larranaga, as the Philadelphia 76ers are interviewing him for their vacant head coaching position, league sources said. Larranaga was also a candidate for the Celtics head-coaching job.

Still doesn’t quite make up for losing Thibs to Chicago. If we lose Larranaga to Philly…ugh, just ugh. Welcome, Ron!

I’m more excited about the coaching hires than the player hires this offseason, lol. DA has done a great job with it. The potential that Stevens has to go along with this guy’s knowledge & experience (especially if he knows Thibs defense in and out) should mean only good things in the Celtics future. I could see Steven’s becoming one of the better coaches of the league quickly (like Thibs or Vogel).

I am excited for Olynyk… I will say that Sully didn’t look nearly as good as him in his Summer League games last year, and he turned out pretty darn good. The transition on offense should be somewhat seamless for KO (defense is another story)

Sully was good in the summer league. More importantly Sully looked good in the season and was getting better. In January, the last 15 games before he went down, he had 5 games in double digit rebounds, and 4 games in double digit points. Two of his double doubles was while playing less than 30 minutes. I’m as excited to see Sully as I am to see Olynyk. If that combination works, they could combine for like 30-20.

Sully was good in the Summer League yes, but KO was GREAT. All i’m saying is that if Sully transitioned that easily… And KO had more success in the summer league than Sully… Than KO has the potential to impact our team EVEN MORE than sully did last year!

I’m excited to see Sully too, but notice I said player hires THIS off season. I’m excited to watch JS AB JG and Rondo too, of course. I just hope they can stay healthy.
