Your Morning Dump… Where Rondo is an insightful, intelligent and neat person

Chuck - Red's Army July 12, 2013 Brad Stevens, Rajon Rondo, The Morning Dump 22 Comments

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

“[Meeting Rondo] was great. What an insightful, intelligent, neat person to sit down with,” Stevens said during an on-camera interview with WDRB Fox 41 in Louisville. “I’ve got a chance to meet a lot of his teammates because we were down at the summer league and some guys would come by, so it’s been great to meet him and the other teammates. I think it’s been a really good situation thus far. It’s been a little bit of a whirlwind for me.”

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has stressed that he has no intentions of trading Rondo this offseason and, asked at Rondo’s camp if he desired to have Rondo playing for him next season, Stevens added, “No question. Yeah, absolutely. And he is obviously one of the best point guards in the league and has been one of the best performers over the last … seven years. He’s had a terrific young career and I can’t wait to get working with him.”

Some media blowhards are overreacting to Brad Stevens’ visit to Rajon Rondo’s camp. The proudly ignorant Michael Felger called the action, “unseemly.”

Here’s a news flash to the uniformed: If KG and Paul Pierce were still on this roster, Stevens would have flown to Malibu to meet with both of them. That’s fact. Not fiction.

A new coach on any team would have done the exact same thing with his star players.

I hope you had the chance to watch CSNNE’s hour long tribute to Paul Pierce last night. It was a phenomenal look back at the Truth’s career.

One moment that struck a chord with me was Pierce’s in-game clash with Doc Rivers during the 2004-05 season. For all his personality deficiencies, I’ve never seen Rondo challenge Doc publicly. We were also reminded of Pierce’s immaturity in and after Game 7 of the 2005 playoff series with the Pacers.

I believe Pierce was close to Rondo’s age at the time. Imagine if the Celtics had jettisoned Pierce after those incidents?

The Celtics took out a full page ad in the Boston Globe, thanking KG and Pierce:

Classy move.

I didn’t see one for Doc Rivers. Maybe it’s in the Classifieds section under “Quitter for Hire.”

    Celtics!!……Ooooorah!……Celtics!!…….Ooooorah!……….Celtics!!……..Oooohrah! 1-2-3 Ubuntu!

    • ________

      Ubuntu is dead.

I had posted a topic on another blog about the immaturity of Pierce and how the same criticisms said about Rondo was said about him. Hell in 2005 they were even trying to trade Pierce for CP3 but they couldn’t get the trade to go through.

Pierce even said himself that he didn’t get along w/ Pitino or Doc (at first). Look at Pierce now, he’s become “THE” Celtic because he put himself aside and was all about the team.

Where’s the scoop on Scal? No more announcing next year… Please God don’t let them sub in Donny Marshall

    • Step

Well Scal will be an Asst. Coach with GSW…but you’re right, I don’t want more Donny Marshall.

      • KGino

I know.. just expected some mention of it on here. I agree guys, Tommy is getting more and more senile every year (and more hilarious)… it’ll be a sad day when he goes.

        NO DONNY MARSHALL. PLEASE GOD.

  • LA Flake

Aren’t the C’s missing someone in that ad?

    Where’s JET?

    • tvor03

he spent one disappointing season with the team where we barely made the playoffs. I don’t think we took out an ad for Jermaine O’Neal either.

      • LA Flake

        I was just kidding, bruh.

        • tvor03

          oh. my bad!

    • Chulinho

      No, they’re missing ‘Sheed!

    • forever_green

Their missing me cause I’m routing for Brooklyn next year, FU – DA…Bird for GM.

  • Lee in Oregon

    Classy thank-you by the C’s…….

Doc & Jet will get one too, right after pigs start flying….

I guess I’m in the minority, but I like Donny Marshall over Scal. I think a lot of people still think of him as that lovable scrub at the end of the bench. Not that either guy is Hubie Brown. Just my opinion but I find Marshall’s commentating more insightful. At least Donny remembers he was a scrub.

    • KGino

I thought scal was way more insightful having been on the team in 08… His commentating about plays they would call on offense and defense was awesome. Stuff I’ve never heard before. He was goofy and awkward at times, but that comes with the scal territory.

Donny marshall seems a bit condescending, like a know it all.

  • frickenWaaaltah

upvoting you for the Tommy point. Mike too.

But I think while Donny and Gary are no Gorman and Heinsohn, if you look around at what the rest of the league gets, you’d have to agree they aren’t so bad. Wow are there some bad crews out there.

  • forever_green

To much is made of immaturity..who cares, as long as the person isn’t disrespectful all the time..who cares.

  • RedsLoveChild

If Paul Pierce was “The Truth”….Doc Rivers was “The Lie”

  • LA Flake

Though I’m not the biggest Rondo fanboy, I think Chuck’s PP/Rondo comparison is off. Way off. PP was on a bad team year in and year out. Rondo, except for his rookie year, has always been on a contender. PP was expected to lead despite having some of the worst supporting cast the league has ever seen. Rondo’s simply been asked to be consistent on both ends. PP never had the type of veterans Rondo had to shield him from criticism. And personally, I thought his antics during the Indiana series were funny. But the media acted as if he threw a chair. Pierce was simply defiant against his opponent.

Yeah, PP and Doc didn’t get along. But that was when Doc put the ball in the hands of guys like Marcus Banks and Ricky Davis and told Pierce to adapt. But you NEVER heard anything about Pierce telling Doc to f**k off.

I could go on and on and on but the bottom line is, Rondo’s got a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go before we can even mention him in the same paragraph as Pierce.

Come on, man. Pierce took us to the ECF with guys like Tony Battie, Antoine Walker and Eric Williams. And eventually won it all for us when they finally got him some help.

    • forever_green

Ha, I think you just went on a rant. I also think to much was made of Paul and his humor after that Indiana game where Tinsley was hacking away. What was the big deal…This season will be a true test for Rondo and I’m routing for him.

    • kobe_beef2424

what do you expect? most of the Boston fans here only knew about the Celtics when they have KG and Ray Allen.

  • kobe_beef2424

Bostons sx now, Rondo is a mental case, Jeff Green has no heart, CLee is a bust, Avery Bradley is overrated… I say Boston will be with the Magic in bottom

    • forever_green

Maybe if you payed this much attention to Lakers players, they wouldn’t leave.
