Your Morning Dump… Where Brad Stevens has talked with every one of his players

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Stevens reached out to each player on the roster upon accepting the job and was pleased to receive responses from all of them.

“I heard back from everybody and they were great,” he said. “Jeff (Green) called right back and Jared (Sullinger) got right back to me. … The response for them has really been kind and good, so I’m looking forward to working with them.”

Stevens met Avery Bradley, who was at the Celtics practice facility, in person prior to his introductory press conference. President of Basketball Operations noted Stevens wants to meet more players over the coming weeks to begin getting to know one another. That includes Rajon Rondo, who has been at the center of coachability talks since the hiring.

“I know that they talked and it sounded like their talk went really well,” said Ainge. “They want to get together and see if they can develop a relationship before the season starts.”

Glad to hear the players returned Stevens’ phone call. I’m waiting for the reporter who claims Rajon Rondo took the longest amount of time to get back to Stevens.

Unfortunately, this is the news we’re relegated to pass along until the blockbuster deal with the Nets is finalized and Danny Ainge can finish up the roster.

As for Rondo’s injury timetable:

“I don’t really know a timeline, but when they did the surgery — and I hate to put pressure on the player — but I think his goal and a very realistic goal is to be ready Opening Night,” Ainge said following head coach’s Brad Stevens introductory press conference. “I’m guessing that training camp will be maintenance, maybe not do two-a-days, maybe miss a day here or there, but I think that our objective is he’ll be ready Opening Night. I haven’t heard anything that’s suggested otherwise.”

There is only one option for opening night – Brooklyn at Boston.

The Celtics’ first game in the Orlando Summer League is tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. We reached deep into the corporate budget and sent John to Orlando to cover the games. Look for comprehensive coverage starting tomorrow.

FWIW – the @BOSCoachStevens Twitter account is a fake. I should have know that the real Brad Stevens wouldn’t follow me.

“I’m waiting for the reporter who claims Rajon Rondo took the longest amount of time to get back to Stevens.” Seriously, I don’t understand the negative press Rondo gets anymore with guys like Dwight Howard around.

I’m mostly just looking forward to catching a glimpse of Olynyk and Pressey in the Orlando SL. I’m not expecting much from Fab.

The press doesn`t like Rondo because he`s not a “good interview”. He`s not “quotable”, plus he`s bland/unsmiling. They like guys who are more fun to be around, who make their jobs easier.

As for Stevens, RR has nothing to gain by giving him a hard time. Fair or unfair, RR is being partially blamed for Allen and Rivers leaving. He won`t come close to getting a max contract if he`s viewed as a “coach killer”.

      • Brick James

He’s also a certified arse to them. I love it.

      • Chulinho

I agree completely with everything you said. Well stated, Red.

I, too, want to see Kelly O in action…this guy was a 1st team All-American, just like Sullinger was.

          I`ve given up on Fab.

          • Chulinho

Yeah, I haven’t seen much of Olynyk at all. But I hear his offense is a good fit for how today’s NBA game is played among scoring bigs. What I’ll be watching is his activity and focus on defense. With Sullinger’s low post skills and his ability to rebound fairly well, plus Olynyk’s mid-range game, I believe they could develop into a nice offensive duo.

As for Fab, I don’t understand how he couldn’t even play well in the D-League. My head hurts thinking about that.

Are they going to broadcast the summer league games on CSNNE?

    • Brian Pahlm

Nbatv has them or I think.

Opening night? More like Brooklyn at Miami. Celtics probably won’t even play on the first night this year. First game? Who knows. Maybe vs Brooklyn will be the first national TV game, a week or two into the season.

Miami, Indy, Brooklyn, Knicks, Bulls…that’s 5 teams in the East off the top of my head that will be higher up in the pecking order this year. Maybe they’ll overachieve but the league will probably treat them like a middle of the pack team for TV and general scheduling purposes. So no Christmas day game, etc.

Of course the wild card here is what happens with the rest of the summer. Hopefully Danny can move Humphries and Wallace right away.

I doubt someone will take Wallace contract, he has what 3yr left so it’s gonna be hard, shoud be easier with Hump but who knows how Ainge will work it, he needs some money to get players they need but I’m not sure if he’s got any idea how to get them. Marekt is getting smaller and smaller everyday.

  • Frank Aziza

Josh Smith to Pistons. That’s the team of the east in a few years.

    • Astarot

Smith to Pistons, confirmed? Thought he’d go to Houston joining The Clown, guess they gave tchem more money in Ditroit.
