Dwight Howard is going to Houston

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) July 5, 2013 Around the NBA, Free Agency 18 Comments on Dwight Howard is going to Houston

The Lakers apparently didn’t beg enough, because they just lost their big free-agent center to the Houston Rockets.

After 20 months of twists and turns in the Dwight Howard saga, a person with knowledge of his decision told USA TODAY Sports he will join the Houston Rockets.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because his decision had not yet been announced.

After being traded from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a four-team deal a year ago, Howard entered the summer unsure of what he might do because of the awful Lakers season that had unfolded.

My initial reaction is THANK F’ING GOD THIS F’ING MESS IS OVER!!!

Seriously, Dwight Howard has been such an ass throughout this whole thing, I feel like I should apologize to LeBron James for only holding a televised special.

Howard obviously makes the Rockets better.  He also has the potential be a disruptive mess.  But he’s going to a team coached by one of the best big men of all time in Kevin McHale, and he just so happens to have another of the greatest big men of all time, Hakeem Olajuwon, in the neighborhood.  So it could be really good for him.  And pairing him with James Harden is going to be fun to watch.

Meanwhile, the Lakers got nothing out of their trade with Orlando.  He was supposed to be the future of that franchise.  And the Lakers losing out on an attention-hungry center is just so odd.  It’s shocking, really.  They never lose guys like this.

As of right now, the Lakers have ONE guy under contract for the 2014-15 season:  Steve Nash.  They’ve got $50 million to build a team from scratch.  Welcome to rebuilding, LA.

And one last note:  assuming Andrew Bynum is gone from Philly, Orlando emerges from the big Dwight Howard trade as the big winner.  People laughed at Rob Hennigan when it all went down, but he not only got good players and got rid of a headache, all the other teams lost their centerpieces in this deal (Andre Iguodala committed to Golden State this afternoon).

Enjoy Dwight, Houston.  They’ll be a fun team to watch (I’ll have more fun watching the Warriors, though).  But honestly, I’m just glad we won’t have this Dwightmare business to deal with anymore.

Im glad this circus act is over, and even better is that the lakers are rebuilding. At least Danny got some picks to play with looks like the lakers maybe shouldn’t have given up all those 1st rd picks for Nash.

hope houston knocks the clips out of the playoffs. cheers!

Houston won’t win any more games next year than they did this last year.

        • kg2128

Lol you are a complete idiot. Just based on growth of current players they would win more games and obviously they did a lot more than that. Dwight is going to be healthier than last year and much happier, even if he isn’t exactly the same top 5 player he was a couple years ago, they will win a lot more games and advance out of the first and probably second round. They may or may not be real contenders but they got much better today.

          • zippittyay

            Deja Vu all over again.

          • zippittyay

It’s ok, most everyone thought I was an idiot last year when I was the only one predicting the demise of the Lakers while everyone else was fuming how they got handed another ring….

    • kg2128

Yeah can’t complain, the Lakers went all in and completely lost. What’s funny is most Laker fans are thrilled that Dwight left, but they didn’t get anything for him at all and now they have to rebuild. Even if you hate Dwight you have to realize him walking for nothing was straight up awful for the Lakers :).

I’m from the Bay Area CA and in the papers and all accounts local sports word was the warriors were willing to give Bogut, klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes in a sign and trade for Howard. D12 really fucked L.A lol

The wheels are coming off in lala-land…….the “future” just left and Kobe & everyone else is old.. Nice decision to hire D’Antoni………maybe get Isaiah Thomas to straighten in out!

    • LA Flake

the flakers should just move back to minnesota where they belong.

    Josh Smith to Houston ?

i wonder which team is more messed up now….LA lost Dwight but Houston acutally HAS Dwight…what is worse?
Guess the Lakers will be tanking…hope they do not get a high pick next year.

  • Double P

My only problem with the post is that Orlando is somehow the big winner in that trade? They had the worst record in the league last year.. Ya thank god they have that core intact! They are awful and no one won that trade

  • RedsLoveChild

Laugh all you want now…but, consider the situation in 1 year.

LA will have enough cap space to sign TWO max FA`s {LBJ will be eligible}, and they`ll be lining up to gladly take Buss money.

Plus, with their luck, the Lakers will probably win the Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes!

    • eddysamson

Ya I just read an article this morning where LA is prepping to attract LBJ next summer. They might be bad this year so the Wiggins thing is totally possible.

Dwight didn’t really do anything wrong this time. It’s not his fault everyone chooses to pay attention to his every move
