Celtics trade up to 13, select Kelly Olynyk

Olynyk

Trader Danny Ainge reportedly made a deal with the Dallas Mavericks for the 13th pick and used the pick to select Gonzaga’s Kelly Olynyk.

The Celtics gave Dallas the 16th pick and two future 2nd round choices. Dallas eventually moved the 16th pick to Atlanta. Confused yet?

As for Olynyk, he’s an athletic 7-footer who can play in the post and on the perimeter. Unfortunately, he doesn’t rebound well and is considered a weak defender. Get the full scouting report and highlights in the Draft Express video:

With the big KG/Paul Pierce trade hanging in the balance, many Celtics fans are curious if Rajon Rondo is next to go. Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix offers this:

By picking Olynyk, several teams see this as a sign Boston is committed to Rajon Rondo.

Stay tuned.

don’t at all see the comparison

olynyk could score 20 a game and still wouldn’t be worth it. dude has NO defensive profile.

  • gman

This is a terrible trade. Celtics trade away two 2nd rounders for a guy who would have been available at the pick they traded to acquire him. Not too mention that the player they traded for won’t really help them, and the guy they actually picked has significantly more upside. Dude, what the F?

    • eddysamson

why do we need 2nd rounders when were about to get a heaping load of players from the Nets as well as a heaping load of picks on top of what we already got…

      • Duncan1

        heaping load of something

  • Brick James

LOLynyk. I think I might become a Heat fan.

    • LA Flake

that’s going a little too far. screwwww the heat.

      • Brick James

        True that. It’s just… surprising.

On the bright side he seems to be a very heady, shifty player. Reading into what Mannix is saying, I can see he and Rondo developing chemistry and having a very potent inside/out game.

Hell I’m drinking, and trying to be optimistic.

        • LA Flake

good for you! drink it up, bruh! i could use a cold one right now.

This is a big gal from Canada………..oh, my mistake.

  • forever_green

Does DA expect him to play right away?

    • Brick James

yep if the KG trade goes down

  • forever_green

Am I crazy for liking the pick?

    • Brick James

      nope

    • RedsLoveChild

All joking aside…..this guy was a first team All-American, the WCC player of the year, and is a 7-footer.

    • EricKrasnauskas

Not crazy at all! The Celtics finally have a dedicated center, and better yet one that can be a real offensive presence.

We’ll see if he can actually learn to rebound and play defense…

  • RedsLoveChild

Should`ve went with Brittney Griner instead!

I hope he loses the “chick hair”……….

Olajuwan just thanked Stern for “all the great crap he did” and never mentioned how he suspended MJ for 2 years……..thereby allowing “The Dream” to snag a couple of rings……(the H is silent)
