Report: Doc’s done with the Clippers

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) June 21, 2013 Celtics News, Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett 25 Comments

Is this it?  Is this REALLY IT???

Mark Murphy seems to think so.

The Docudrama has taken a new, and possibly fatal, turn.

A league source just told the Herald that negotiations between the Celtics and Clippers over the release of Doc Rivers from his contract have ended.

Though there is a slim chance that talks could resume for a third time, both sides appeared to acknowledge today that nothing can be gained.

“The Celtics’ price (for Rivers) was a first round pick, and the Clippers weren’t willing to do that,” said the source, who added that it remained unclear if the Celtics could have even scored a second round pick for their coach of the last nine years.

I’m not going to believe a goddamn thing until the Clippers hire a coach.  There is a distinct possibility that this is all one, big, choreographed dance to drive an apparent final nail in the coffin in an effort to satisfy the league’s fears that this is a simultaneous, illegal trade of a player and coach.

We’ll get into what happens next when this officially dies.  It’s dead for now.

For now.

I hope this forever puts an end to the whole “Ray Allen was a traitor” nonsense. Wake up Celtic fans.. players change teams. Only in Boston and Cleveland are the fans idiotic enough to not understand this. Ray left because he was a “free agent” (!) and the Celtics had already signed his replacement (Jason Terry – how did that work out?), already committed to build the team around Rondo, tried to trade him several times… and Ray wanted to win and knew the Celtics couldn’t do that with Rondo as the focus.
So now Doc and KG basically plot to get out of their contracts and force a deal to the west coast, where they would probably bring PP with them. Doc is the damn coach!! The one who supposedly is responsible for getting players for the Celtics, and is UNDER CONTRACT!
Yet, I see none of the hate and disgust towards him.
As for Ray, well he had a great year, won a championship (and was a huge factor in it) and has a great chance to win another one next year, and went somewhere where they wanted him.
I have come in the last two years (after being a huge Celtics fan for all of DJ’s tenure and Ray’s tenure, being a Seattle guy I root for my favorite players when they leave and go elsewhere) to realize that Boston fans are the biggest hypocrites in sports.
At least 2014 they have a chance to get a lottery pick and rebuild around Rondo.. lol

    • Jason Whetzell

You’re an idiot. Ray left a good team for less money to join the team that JUST BEAT THEM. He’s a front running bitch. This is a rebuilding off season and it’s totally different because it’s Ainge pushing everyone out of the door. I didn’t even read your whole post because you proved to be an idiot with the first sentence.

      • Frank Aziza

        Lol.

    • Double D

The Celtics didn’t want Ray? They offered more money and a no trade clause. I also wouldn’t say he had a “great” year. He won it all. Played poorly and hit the biggest shot in the Finals, but let’s not have some revisionist history about him.

      • Michael Erisman

Played poorly? Seriously? He is a veteran playing a role. Plays about 20 minutes a game, and in that time had what 25 games with 15 points or more, 5-6 playoff games with 20 points, won 5-6 games on last second threes (including game 6 of the Finals), spaces the floor because every second he is on the floor someone has to be on him (this by itself makes his presence on the Heat worth every penny even if he never scores at all).
But whatever, I realize you all are Boston fans. That means you are pre-programmed to hate anyone who wakes up and realizes they can do better elsewhere.
The hypocrisy is that every single one of you would do the same thing in your own lives to better your situation for your family or follow a dream and if you wouldn’t you are an idiot.

        • KGino

That’s right, Boston fans are as loyal as they come. So we will never respect a guy who accepted a lesser role with a rival team just cuz he was more likely to win another ring. That’s what a coward would do. Boston fans are not cowards, you’re right about that

        • Jason Whetzell

Following a dream doesn’t include “if you can’t beat them, join them” that is and will always be a bitch move.

        • JJ

Hypocrisy again! You’re all knowing and know what everyone would do in each situation. I ,personally, would have stayed in Boston for MORE MONEY and a NO TRADE CLAUSE to try to win one or two more with MY guys. I would NOT have run to the human cesspool that is Miami, and joined up with my fiercest rival. I would also not have left the area my kids were growing up in and getting world class medical treatment. Not a damn thing to do with family. That’s what bitches and traitors do. Period. But I forgot Ray is the greatest to ever play, and as a 35/36 year old, could not stomach possibly getting traded. His ego definitely could not take it, which led him to Miami. If DA didn’t entertain trading Ray, he sure as hell was not doing his job. Ray made a decent chunk of money and was the most expendable of the “Big 3.” If we could have traded him to help facilitate a rebuilding, we should have. That’s being loyal to the organization.

    • kg215

You really are an idiot, you are just as bad as the people that are still furious at Ray Allen. Not everyone is blind to all the facts that yeah Ray was shopped around too much and Miami was a perfect fit for Ray. So what, he still took less money to go to the favored team that beat the Celtics; Ray deserves some hate and he doesn’t care. Danny deserves some blame for that situation and this one. There is plenty of hate for Doc Rivers too on all the Celtics blogs/forums, do you just see what you want to see or are you illiterate?

      • Michael Erisman

If there are people going after Doc and KG the way they went after Allen, then that is at least consistent. I do not spend any time on boards (other than getting this one through email) so wouldn’t know.

    • KGino

I’m fine with ray getting his 2nd ring… he sold his soul for it. Many other players could have done the same but took the respectable road. Depends what type of man you are. If he wants to ride the bench in Game 7 and score 0 points and collect his ring… good for him.

      • Michael Erisman

How did KG end up on the Celtics in the first place? Was that not respectable? The Heat would not even be in game 7 were it not for Ray, so I am thrilled he got another ring, and will contribute and get another one next year as well, while the Rondo (lol) led Celtics will likely be a lottery team.

        • KGino

Yea what KG did was perfectly respectable. He bled for the timberwolves for 10+ years and earned his shot. Ray got carried all season, he might as well of just bought Lebrons ring once he won it!

        • Jason Whetzell

Kg got traded, god damn it you are dumb. Ray left for less money to a team that just beat him. It is not comparable AT ALL. You’re thrilled he got another ring because you have no loyalties and you do not understand honor or good sportsmanship. You don’t know the difference between the Celtics and the Heat therefore you’re a fool.

        • JJ

KG bled for Minn and was traded for like 8 guys at the time. He didn’t want to leave them, but they wanted him to be able to contend. We also made a quality trade with your Sonics for Ray. We weren’t gifted a Pau Gasol for nothing. We didn’t have several of the game’s best conspire for quite a while to sign with us in Free Agency. Paul Pierce was our draft pick and suffered through crappy years like the rest of us. How is the formation of our “Big 3″ NOT respectable?

    • WardenOfTheNorth

Boston fans don’t care about the name on the back of the jersey, they care about the name on the front.

    • Joey Burns

      You are an anustart

  • JJ

I agree with Jason, you’re a moron. Talk about hypocritical, you just follow players around because you’re a “Seattle guy?” Try bleeding for one team you’re entire life, and you might know what it means to be a fan. Further, Ray had a decent year and a couple good playoff games, but he was by no means the Ray Allen of old. I would say “great” year and “huge” factor are embellishments because you’re a “Seattle guy.” Ray was born in CA and went to college at UCONN, but because he played in Seattle for a few years, he’s your guy. Oh, and we didn’t want him…ok. That’s why we offered him more years and money in Free Agency. That makes sense. Why are you even here?

    • Michael Erisman

Well, if you want to feel pain, then have your entire team taken away by the NBA. I was a Sonics guy and bled with that team until it was gone. I have been a Cubs fan my whole life too (born/raised in Chicago and when we moved to Seattle there was no baseball team yet). So I know a bit about bleeding one team. I also know that after watching Celtic fans here for the last year I lost every bit of respect for the lightweight pansies that you are. You take on KG like he is one of your own, but he sold out his own team to get here and create the first “big three”. What a bunch of losers. Enjoy being a lottery team next year.

      • JJ

Actually do some research. KG did not sell out on the Wolves, any NBA observer knows that. Lightweight pansies, you’re classic. The greatest franchise in the history of the league, and our “Big 3″ are all going to the HoF. Bunch of losers, eh? Aside from that, there’s plenty out there that says DA is the one who started all this nonsense. I’m not thrilled with Doc and the way he’s handled this, but DA threw him into that position…along with KG and PP. I have heard nothing that states KG or PP don’t want to or wouldn’t play for the C’s. This was DA trying to overhaul on the fly, and he turned it into a circus. Why should we all flip on Doc and KG, Mr Seattle? Why does that make sense? As someone said below, at the end of the day, it’s about the name on the front of the jersey.

  • Guest

You are a fool. To bother to waste too much time on your comment would also be foolish, but seeing as how your a “seattle” guy and have no NBA team in your lame-ass city, I’m sure trolling the boards of other cities’ teams make you sleep alot better at night. I wouldn’t know, because I come from a city with a major sports scene and don’t need to jump on one player’s nuts and ride them around the country once they sell out and go elsewhere. Now go take a swan dive off the space needle

    • Michael Erisman

Good one :) I am on these boards because I was a Celtics fan for five years and still get the emails. I am not on any other boards and rarely post or even bother to read. The hypocrisy and inconsistency with which this dump author goes after Allen and soft peddles Doc and KG, was finally just enough to say something.

      • JJ

You followed the Celtics for 5 years maybe, but that in no way constitutes being a fan. You’re riding around looking for a bandwagon to jump on, which is the farthest thing from a real fan, in general. You want to talk about hypocrisy (your favorite word) and inconsistency, look at your own posts. Not one person here is even close to agreement with your sentiments. But we’re all just hypocritical, inconsistent, lightweight pansies…yup

  • Frank Aziza

Now we have to start the rebuild. I wanted one more year with this group. Maybe if they do come back they’ll try to show Danny they can win here and not la

  • Rae

Boston fans will have to one day come to grips with the fact that this is a business. Ray Allen fulfilled his contract with the Celtics organization (he played longer for the Bucks anyway) and owed you nothing. Kevin Garnett gave you his best even though he opted to be traded it was still his right. He owes you nothing. Just be grown ups and if you appreciate their contributions, wish them well.
