Doc might be the Clippers coach by the end of the day

Yet another Woj bomb:

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers are discussing possible compromises to including guard Eric Bledsoe into the Kevin Garnett-Doc Rivers deal with hopes of completing an agreement on Monday, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

This is it, folks.  This is the beginning of the end because

The prospects of bringing Rivers back to the Celtics have become less appealing for Boston, who understand, as one league executive said, “There’s no putting the genie back in the bottle. You can’t pretend this didn’t happen and just go back to work.”

That kind of follows what I said this morning.

Of course, it could all fall apart.  But I’m preparing for Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to become Clippers soon.  And that means Paul Pierce will likely be gone too.

Damn.

DAMN is right! I bet DJ would be great WITH KG, without, though? Man this could be a weird season, hopefully the start of something good, but it seems like a gamble. I mean 2 years from now who knows, DJ could be killing it like Hibbs out there, or could be regressing like Perk, or could even stay about the same.

If it happens we just have to look at it positively because when it all comes down to it we are losing KG, a dude on his last legs, for some players over a decade younger with serious potential.

    • Chulinho

DJ isn’t KG; and he never will be.

      • vitamin d

Maybe he meant KG here to mentor and teach him

        • Chulinho

          What?

          • eddysamson

Are you having trouble comprehending simple things today or something?

          • Chulinho

Nope. vitamin d’s comment didn’t make sense. Who is the “him” he is referring to?

          • vitamin d

            I was talking about Deandre.

          • Chulinho

Well, yeah of course. My response was to only the final part of his comment. I agree with what he said toward the beginning.

      • eddysamson

Where the hell did I say that? Are you crazy? I said DJ COULD BE GOOD WITH KG. How is that even close to DJ IS KG!?!?!

        • Chulinho

Who in that deal has “serious potential”?

          • eddysamson

Well, DJ. Any dude who is under 26, that athletic, and that tall, has potential. Not only him, but Bledsoe for sure as well.

          • Chulinho

I agree with you on Bledsoe. He’s a great talent, but he’s also in a contract year. If he decides he doesn’t want to stick around what is the point of trading for him? Not to mention the C’s have plenty of guards. I like DJ, but his skill set is SO limited, I feel like he’d be a good complimentary piece, but not someone I’d pay a lot for.

          • BamaCeltic

I think this is a good deal , I love KG , but lets be honest , he has like 1 or 2 years left. So we are getting two players we can use for the future or trade them. Either way its a good deal for Celtics. Doc is a great coach but we can get another Coach. So basically 2 young guns for vet thats on his way out anyway?? seems like a good move to me. Plus this could be a deal that Doc and Danny have talked about and both agree that it helps each of them out….you never know

  • Chulinho

I’ll be pissed if this happens and all the C’s get in return are Deandre Jordan and two second-round picks.

  • John Smith

Am I the only one who thinks this is cold as ice towards Rondo? Doc, KG, Paul and Danny are basically saying they think they can win with Chris Paul, but not with him, which I think is stupid.

    • Chulinho

I agree with the first part of your comment. If Rondo is the future of the C’s, letting go of the two men he respects the most in the NBA is pretty wrong.

    • piecz

Didn’t they already win with Rondo?

      • vitamin d

Rondo wasn’t playing at his full potential in 2008

        • piecz

and they still won, almost did it in 2010, Rondo doesn’t let you down in PO.

          • vitamin d

Oh, yes, I realize that. But specifically in 2008, it had much more to do with the Big 3 than Rondo. But Rondo is completely different now; a monster in the playoffs. Could even be better than Lebron if he wanted to

  • Step

I hate this, but it would be interesting to see how they fare in the West.

  • MatthewWilding

Guys, this is good news. We weren’t competing next year anyways. Now we can route for our team, and then maybe we cand root for the Kid and the Captain in the finals against the Heat next year.

  • vitamin d

    Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • Chris Laterza

Well a lot of people got what they wanted- of course most of them are Heat and Laker fans

    • vitamin d

In other news, the Heat lost last night!

  • vitamin d

This Doc & KG to Clips rumor is now on full speed on Twitter.

    • Chulinho

      *lightspeed

  • Double P

The longer this drags on the less leverage the Cs have. Everyone knows Doc isn’t coming back at this point and Danny has to take back less and less. DJ and two picks is a lame deal and a downgrade for the celts

  • Pete
    • John Smith

      Deandre Jordan…

  • Frank Aziza

This won’t be all Danny does, especially if he gets Bledsoe. It reminds me of trading the 5th pick for Ray Allen. I didn’t like that till it followed up with KG. Maybe we get Josh Smith too. Jordan Green Smith Rondo not bad.

  • Pete

Does anyone else want Ainge’s head for this? He’d better have something fantastic in mind for this franchise because right now I am sick and tired of what’s been going on for the past couple years.

    • Curt F

I’ve been angry with Ainge since the Perkins trade. So I’m not very impartial. I think the guy took a championship team and “sold it for spare parts”.

  • Walk

I don’t ever want to hear Doc talk about being a “Celtic” or what it means to be one. A true “Celtic” doesn’t pull this kind of crap.

    • pierce Hart

Docs done nothing wrong he embraced the franchise and should be remembered for our 08 title. He didn’t force the issue to go it was Angie, he’s a professional and has left to a team in a different conference. Sadly you need to know when to say thanks but this is where the road ends

      • uRaDic

How do you know he didn’t force the issue? That it was Ainge? Do you work for the Celtics and know what goes on behind closed doors?

        • pierce Hart

Yeah I’m Bill Russell nice to meet you. Obviously not but Ainge has a history of ruthlessly shopping players I know as much as you do and reports are saying that he was willing to stay in Boston

        • ShawnCVD

If Boston is gonna go through some lean years do you think ownership wants a $7 million per year coach guiding a 37 win team ? This is a blessing in disguise.

  • badshar

If this has to happen, then can we get it over with fast? Its hard for me to think about KG and Pierce getting traded. I am against it, but if we are going to trade them, then can we please get it all done with fast? Once it’s done, I might be able to live with it, but till then, there are just way to many memories and sentimental attachments to think about all this stuff. :(

  • Chris Laterza

Let’s all pray to Tim Tebow that this doesn’t happen

  • bstnv

hopefully this will swing enough cap space to sign Jsmoove. should keep rondo happy enough to wanna stay

    • John Smith

This won’t swing any cap space. That’ll all be taken up by… Deandre Jordan :'(

    • Chris Laterza

We don’t get any cap space because the Clips have none to give plus we are over by 10 million or so so we’d have to get like 25 million to be able to afford him.

  • Dave Timmons

Does this automatically mean that Pierce is gone? If you remove KG’s contract, add in DJ’s $11, you still are below this year’s payroll. Maybe Ainge hangs onto Pierce for his final season, using him as the “bridge” to a new future.

    • Pete

I think Paul is gone. Maybe for a trade exception or as part of some bigger deal on draft night. If this all goes down I think Ainge goes nuclear.

  • pierce Hart

I think we should keep Paul this season even without KG and Doc. He’s help the young guys in the transition period and probably resign quite cheap at the end of the season. Especially with the possibly of Del Negro you want a senior figure like him.

  • uRaDic

I don’t understand people who are shooting this down. Bring in Deandre, Bledsoe, and George Karl or Hollins, both of whom have coached younger players and we’ll be fine. Jordan, Sully, Rondo, Green, Bledsoe, Bradley, etc.. The C’s would have a young nucleus of talent rather than Pierce who’s out the door in 2 years and KG who’s on the verge of retirement every off season. As for losing Doc, he clearly doesn’t want to be here anyways so why not try and get something in return? Good luck finding a better deal.

    • timnikolaev

Doc is a better veteran x and o coach, Karl would be a great developmental guy.

    • eddysamson

Yes! This is what I’ve been thinking! Nice to see others are sharing the sentiment since its looking like this is how things are going down.

  • KGino

I don’t get the rush. I think we were one player away from competing for a ring, this will set us back. It’s more of like closing our window definitively for a jump start in our future. Can’t believe Doc sold us out like that tho, I always said I’d much rather have thibs back anyways (thibs made doc)

  • LarryBirdsJ

no one should be surprised by any of this. look how they played early last year with KG and pierce letting rondo take a firmer grasp on the reigns of leadership. pretty clear that every player under 27 hated being on the court with the guy. doc is understandably not very excited about the prospect of coaching a rondo-led squad with no veterans to keep him in check. rondo is more of a factor in docs departure than it seems. get george karl in here with some young guys and move on. hopefully they can swing bledsoe and trade rondo for another piece in the offseason

    • Caterpillar from Italy

I thought about Karl as well, if it has to be a veteran coach.

      Bye Doc.

  • Lee in Oregon

Ainge has them over a barrel if he wants. The Clips NEED this to happen to get CP#3 back on-board. I’m a bit miffed at Doc for the Bledsoe issue- seems like he’s working for them already while collecting checks from the C’s…

  • I bleed green in L.A.

just announced that the Clippers are setting up for a press conference

  • Celticsfanatic

I will miss Doc and always love what he did for the Celtics. Can’t view him as a traitor like I did Ray for some reason. Maybe it’s because I feel this move, while certainly influenced by Rivers’ own slight preferences to run a contender, is one ultimately driven by Danny. It might be the right move, I’m neither diminishing the opinion nor the actions of Ainge, but I feel that if Ainge wanted the team to give it one more run, he would have told Doc and Doc would not let his intrigue of coaching elsewhere unravel as it has now. So as upset as I am, I can’t hate Doc.

    Great coach, better person.

  • piecz

I’d trade DJ to Suns for idk Gortat+twin/kendall marshall

  • Jester00

Could care less i am a better drunk then doc is a coach he had talent good bye Doc enjoy over coaching he showed how bad he was in game 6 last time the last time the we played the lakers in the finals dressing Sheldon Williams

  • Double P

If Ainge can’t close this deal because he gets greedy he HAS to be fired. Doc could easily quit and do broadcasting for a year and KG retire so if you can get a young center and a 1st you CLOSE the deal

  • Joey Burns

Food for thought that I don’t really see being discussed: at the end of the day, the appearance of the landscape when the dust settles hinges on DA’s motivations to go in whichever direction he chooses & how he views said scenarios eventually playing out. Now obviously, the top priority is the impact on the Celtics future, which hypothetically could be cap space, late 1st rounders, possible trade assets, a bottom tier team in a draft with superstar potential, etc. Also, a consideration for trying to give Doc, kg, & pp a chance to land in a good situation surely must influence DA out of at the very least mutual respect. But what has sparsely been mentioned if at all is, DA’s history/flirtation with Chris Paul. We know how highly DA rates cp3 based on how he nearly traded pierce for him on draft night and on how, for all intents & purposes, he traded Rondo & his left nut for half a season of cp3. He has in the past talked about players with that “MJ mental wiring” when talking about players, iirc, like pierce, iverson, kg, & cp3. I feel like he knew better than anyone landing cp3 to the ’11 celtics was a team for the ages based on how cp3’s greatness & his symmetry of skillsets with the Big 3. So, what this leads to is a potential scenario where DA can have his fantasy dream situation play out in reality, albeit not on the celtics but on a cross conference non-rival city where both of pierce & kg call home (that could also serve to add to the lakers misery & possibly take down miami in a finals matchup). I propose that this could be the deciding factor in not accepting Bledsoe in a deal & for quite possibly already haven gone deep into trade talks to the point of no return.

  • kobe

I told you this is back on, you even accused me of trolling. this is a done deal

  • kobe

vinny del negro will coach Boston, if you don’t believe me then it’s not my fault.

  • Fatz

To be honest I like it. it gives KG a chance at another ring before he retires. It makes it easier to give up Pierce. Now that gives Celtics a chance to go for Josh Smith. Get Josh Smith the starting five would be RR,AB,JG,JS, & DJ. That’s a top 4 ,maybe 3, team in the east after Heat & Pacers. Now as far as the west goes, if Clippers can keep CP & get Pierce as well that gives them a starting five of CP,maybe Crawford, PP,BG,KG. That’s a top 5 team in west. so its a win win all across the boards.

    • mike michigan

Ok but Ainge isn’t making deals to help KG get another ring. He’s here to make the Celtics better. This trade doesn’t do that. Also how would we get JSmoooth? The Clippers are refusing to take Lee’s or Terry’s contracts. We have no cap space and or assets to get Smith.

  • mike michigan

The hold up is that the Clippers don’t want to give up another 1st rd pick. The Clippers also aren’t going to take on Lee or Terry’s contracts or giving up Butlers expiring contract. We’re basically giving up KG and Doc for Jordan and a worthless 1st rd pick who will probably never play any minutes. And we may also pay Pierce 5 million to play for the Clippers. If we take this offer I will be angry. It’s not worth it. We have the leverage, Clips need this deal to convince CP3 to resign. How does it effect the Celtics if we don’t make this deal? Doc might sit out and not coach? That’s fine we wont have to pay him 5 million, or Doc coaches we play the year with KG, and pierce and next year we get them off the books. If we’re not getting good players or cap relief this year the deal makes no sense.
