The Boston Celtics traveled to New Orleans for the start of a three-game road trip on Tuesday and Kevin Garnett (illness, thigh) flew with his teammates after missing the past two games, according to the team.

KG’s had a couple of games off now to rest his hip, shake his flu bug, clip that hang nail, tweeze those problem eyebrows….. whatever the hell it is that’s bothering him at this point.

After last night’s festivities, the Celtics sit tied with Chicago for 6th in the East with 16 games left to play (only 16????).  They are a half game out of 5th, 2.5 out of 4th, and 3.5 out of the division lead/3rd seed.

The rest of the month shapes up like this:

  • @ New Orleans
  • @ Dallas
  • @ Memphis
  • New York
  • @ Cleveland
  • Atlanta
  • @ New York

The Celtics will need Kevin Garnett because those first 5 games come over 7 days.  And with two games against the struggling Knicks, there is still an outside shot at that division lead and 3rd seed.  They’re going to have to win these games against lesser opponents to keep gaining some ground.

Also on the trip were the two 10-day guys, Shavlik Randolph and DJ White.  Chances are they’ll be signed for the season.  At this point, they’re better than any other option out there and they’re becoming more familiar with things, so why bring in another new guy?  Expect them to be officially signed for the remainder of the season soon.
