C’s reaction to Heat streak: verbal nut-grabbing and bird-flipping

The Miami Heat are on an impressive 20-game winning streak.  They’re steam-rolling most of the competition and, even in their close games, they’re making some spectacular plays to keep the streak going.

Yep… it’s pretty damn impressive.  That is, unless you’re a member of the Boston Celtics.  In that case, you don’t give a damn.

“Not really impressed with it or anything that they do,” said Terry, who of course has a history with Miami from his Dallas days when the two teams met in the 2011 Finals. “So, for me, it’s more about what our team is doing and how we’re coming together as a unit.”

There it is.  Pretty blunt, but with the sprinkled in “it’s more about us” type of stuff at the end.

What about the captain?  He did say he was impressed… before adding….

“I really don’t even care. I hope they lose every game for the rest of the season. I’ll just worry about what this team does.”

I’d call that comment “indifferent” sprinkled with a healthy amount of “disdain.”  Pierce was spitting fire today in his quotes.  I love this one on trying to win the Atlantic Division:

“I’m sure if we hung up Atlantic Division banners up here we’d be looking a lot more closely at them, but right now we’re floating under the radar, trying to win as many games as possible. We don’t even get a T-shirt for that.”

Hmmmmm… you know who DOES hang division banners?

Doc Rivers did admit to the impressive nature of the Heat streak… but then added the following quote to make it seem the first part of it was just “being nice for the media.”

“I don’t really care,” he said. “We’re going to play them one way or another, whether they have a streak, or coming off a loss. We’ll be ready, I’m sure they will be.”

I like that the groundwork is being laid for a showdown.  It’ll be interesting to see how the C’s match up against Miami with all their injuries… but you can tell from their attitudes that they’re not afraid of Miami at all.

Love the photo of those meaningless banners in the most overhyped city in America besides Los Angeles. As for their streak, who cares? I hope it jinxes them like such streaks have jinxed other teams in the past.

Hanging banners for division champs is pretty lame. But I guess when your team doesn’t have the championship pedigree like ours, you grasp for any self-serving accomplishment there is.

    • LA Flake

They have more divisional championship banners than fans.

The Celtics in the past 27 years have the same championships that the Heat have, so stop hating and keep on watching the SHOW

    • KGino

yes, but let’s conveniently cut it off at 27 years..

Hey the Heat are balling…ask them though the road to the Finals goes through Boston. This is going to be fun.

I can’t wait to see Jet lighting up no D-Ray, AB turning Wade into a volume scorer, KG reestablishing his dominance over Bosh Spice, and Truth (with Green’s aid) giving LeBron flashbacks to his Cleveland days – and losing ways. If nothing else this will be war.

PS the “Boston Celtics” is the winningest franchise in the league. Learn your history.

Looks like the Celts might be getting a chance to knock the heat of their pedestal…only Charlotte stands between the next game against the Celts. I’d love to beat the heat and keep them from threatening the all time record.

Revel in the Rivalry my friends! I luv that these teams don’t like each other. That Game 7 last year sucked with fluky Bosh hitting 3’s and sadly getting the best of the Green. That Game 6 was a marvel to see LeBrick mature into LeBron. Now Boston getting some respect again as a team no one wants to see in the post season.

PP talking the truth about those Division banners. No I just hope the C’s can stay healthy and turn some heads starting next month. Let’s go Celtics!

Why should they be impressed? The Celtics have had their share of double-digit or 19-20 game win streaks during the Garnett era. Heck, even the Rockets had a 22 game win streak in 2008. It’s not a big deal in my opinion, but anything Miami does get’s overblown especially in today’s media.
