Recap: Jeff Green leads rout of Suns

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) February 22, 2013 Celtics News, Recaps 45 Comments on Recap: Jeff Green leads rout of Suns

What Jeff Green did to the Suns tonight wasn’t nice at all.  Let’s just say Doc picked the right game to rest KG and start Jeff.  The Suns had NO answers for Green as he dropped 31 on 11 of 14 shooting in a 113-88 win.  And that was just the start.  Let’s get to it…

The Green:

Never before has this section been more appropriately named.  Jeff Green shit on the Suns tonight.  The 31 points were just the start.  He also had 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 blocks (though 3 came on 1 play), and 2 steals.

So let’s just put the final Jeff  Green line here:  31 points (11-14 FG, 3-5 3pt), 6-7 FT, 7 reb, 4 ast, 5 blk, 2 stl, 1 TO, 1 PF

Also in the Green:  Terrence Williams had a very nice game for the C’s.  9 points,  4 assists, 3 rebounds in 13 minutes of play.  He looked pretty good out there.

Chris Wilcox stepped up with 14 points… good for 2nd on the team.  He also led the C’s with 8 rebounds.

I’ll give Jordan Crawford a little nod in his debut for dropping 10 points on 4-9 shooting.  2 of those attempts were buzzer beaters… so he actually shot very well.

The Gross:

The Phoenix Suns are a mess.  A flat out mess.  Other than that, I’m going to stay very positive about this game.

The Greenlights:

Jeff Green attacks and finishes with the reverse

Chris Wilcox dunked all over the Suns… but there are no YouTube vids yet.  If you find them, post them in the comments and we’ll update this later.

The Grid:

  • The Celtics shot 56% for the game and held Phoenix to 41.7% shooting
  • The Celtics only had 12 turnovers
  • 5 Celtics (Green, Bradley, Terry, Wilcox, Crawford) scored in double figures

Notice I haven’t mentioned Paul Pierce yet?  Coming into this game, without Garnett, you had to figure it would take a monster game from Pierce to win it.

Nope.  8 points on 5 shots.  That means that the Celtics, without Rondo or Sullinger, and with KG resting… managed to win a game by 25 points with Pierce taking just 5 shots.

Phoenix is just terrible… but they’re still an NBA team.  Nice all around contributions for the win.

John…you do your best work when the Celtics kick ass.

“Jeff Green shit on the Suns tonight.”

    Very artistic.

    • Chulinho

Hahaha. Maybe he’s had a few drinks.

    • Kristovar

I love RedsArmy and all of their writers… but I keep coming back for John.

  • screaming jay

As Jim Lahey would put it…”that was a pure unadulterated shit storm of shittastic proportions by Mr. Green…”

What does Jesteroo have to say tonight?

  • Chulinho

It’s been nice seeing the real Jeff Green since last month. With all of these injuries, I guess he realizes how vital he is to the Celtics’ success.

  • eddysamson

Haha! Ive been waiting to see what Jeff will do as a starter all season and he did not disapoint!

Twills and jcraw seem like theyll fit nice. Twill did his best as a point-forward with Jet jcraw green wilcox. Now to see how they play agaisnt better teams…

  • Devin

Yup that sums it up.Jeff Green took a shit on them. Not just any shit thought. It was a giant Shit. One can not describe the size of Shit that was lain apon this poor Suns team.

    • eddysamson

Id say it was probably 9 Kouricks

      • Shawncvd

  • Roy

Jeff Green shitted on the Suns!

  • tyler

Now is the time to shop Green. His value is high and the Celts can get a young player and draft picks. Come on DA, make the move.

    • Mannie

I was waiting for one of these post to show up haha. But it’s too late for that to happen this season. Maybe next year… And you’re saying “young players”? He’s 26, coming of heart surgery, he’s talented. Sorry but I think he’s part of the future for the celtics.

      • Shawncvd

I wouldn’t be sorry about that. Green will be a multiple- time All Star for Boston when all said and done.

And have you seen his defense of late? Uncle Jeff may live up to that silky contract yet…

        • Shawncvd

          * silly contract.

          • Mannie

No that sorry was for Tyler who wants him traded. I love Jeff!

  • Justin

I was there tonight and the best thing that happened besides the whole Jeff Green shit fest was the chant in the 2nd (maybe 3rd?) Quarter of “let’s Go Boston” which was the THEE loudest sounds all night by far. Which was followed up with boos from suns fans so it turned into a shouting match. Which the home fans were losing. By alot. Amazing

  • Paul

Pleased our C’s won without KG, but I for one is so F__cking pissed off! I spent over $300 for two tickets to see the Celtics vs Phoenix! I then spent over $300 to stay a nice hotel for two nights in Phoenix! Thus far, I have spent over $600 to watch one Celtics game and it would have been my first KG game! Now add what I spent on gas to and from Las Vegas and the food, it is close to $1000 to watch one game that my idol DID NOT PLAY!!! “Rest” is the reason KG didn’t play??? What about all the fans that come to see him play? US Airways Center had about 1/3 of the crowd wearing Celtics green! Chants of Let’s Go Celtics rang out three times! I could go on and on how Celtics fans were pissed off that KG didn’t play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • kg215

KG is my favorite player of all time so I understand why you would be pissed. On the other hand the Celtics did wipe the floor with the Suns and KG probably wouldn’t have played much anyway. He was still there right? They didn’t really show him on league pass broadcast (Phoenix Suns channel/announcers)

    • Kristovar

I get what you’re saying, but deal with it. Last year I spent at least that to go to the Celtics @ Dallas game. KG was out for personal issues and Rondo was suspended… I learned that literally an hour before taking a cab to the game. So I did what any normal person did: took vodka shots, grabbed the cab and enjoyed the game nonetheless. At least you got to see a W.

    • WillowGreen

If you were really a fan, you’d understand Kg’s reasons. Celtics gave a good ass whoopin, be mad if the C’s got blown out. lol

Happened to me on my first time watching a game, C’s announced 30 mins before the game that Rondo wasnt playing. And they lost bad to the warriors.

    • Frank5

Oh bitch, bitch, bitch. You saw a great Celtics victory and a career performance by Jeff Green. Would you have been happier to see KG play and the Celtics lose? Now go back to Vegas and win that money back like a real man.

  • ES

    great game by all!
thought that Doc could have sneaked in Fab a little bit earlier, but hey, a little game time is better than none i guess!

  • Reggie35RIP

If Jordan Crawford was any more gangsta he’d have a gun stuffed down his shorts. I was pissing myself when I first saw him moving around.

Green was a beast, Lee and AB played good too. Great win without KG, and PP got a heap of rest too. Also good to see a nice 20+ point blow out. It’s been a while.

    • Chris

Haha leave Jordan Crawford and his steez alone

  • Reggie35RIP

Also TWill looked good. Looks like he’ll turn into being a nice pickup.

  • Justin

Why didn’t we bring a tape of Gino with? Nobody thought we’d need on road?

  • Eddie Allen Powe

I like how the regular negative commenters don’t have anything to add after this win.

    • Reggie35RIP

Yeh it’s true. Way more comments when we lose. Guess people just enjoying b!tching.

  • 1nsomn1ak

I know J Green was definitely in beast mode tonight and this thread is about him but the dude who really stuck out to me tonight was Terrence Williams. Maybe that’s cuz I already suspected Green had this potential months ago and that all he needed was some playing time so I’m a little less surprised/taken aback by his production tonight than most, and I know the Suns suck camel dick, but there’s something about Williams’ game I really like. He’s got a way of dishing the ball real subtly, like the defense has no idea where it’s going, and when he’s got the best shot on the floor he takes it and usually makes it. I’ve thought all this “trade Rondo” chatter has been a wee bit hyperbolic, but if we could sign Williams for an average of $5 mil over the next 3-4 years, and get 75 cents on the dollar back for a formidable big man at forward/center, with j Sullinger getting healthy next year, I don’t see how that isn’t the best move for this organization..

    • piecz

WOW. You just want to trade Rondo because T. Williams play good like 13 minutes in blowout against team like Suns. IMPRESSIVE. I like T. Williams but please, do not overreact.

      • Biu

Bye bye rondo, good luck in Seattle

        • Larry Legend

Jeff green was great last night. He’s been really good for 3-4 weeks. The guy that really stood out besides green was t will! Maybe he playing outta his mind to try and solidify a contract, but he looked so smooth out there. Good handle, really good passer. Boy I hope he can sustain that. Was fun to watch.

      • 1nsomn1ak

Haha.. Like I said, I wasn’t one of these folks who was saying we should trade Rondo when this C’s resurgence initially happened after they were forced to change their style when he tore his ACL. HOWEVER, if we could sign Barbosa and Williams for the next couple years along with having Terry, Bradley, Lee, and even now Crawford able to handle PG/ball handling responsibilities what’s the point of holding onto Rondo’s $12mil contract if we could trade him for a very decent big 5 who might be a bit overpriced?

        • Mannie

Are you trying to win championships with that roster?

  • zippittyay

this is Jeff Green’s team now. His contract is going to look like a bargain by this time next year.

  • $tephanie95

The celtics are better without Garnett.

    • Chief

      Sorry don’t think so

  • 1nsomn1ak

    Check this out..
From the 2012/2013 through the 2014/2015 seasons the combined salaries of Courtney Lee, Jason Terry (groan, $5 mil), Jared Sullinger, Jordan Crawford, Avery Bradley and Fab Melo only averages out to $17 MILLION A YEAR. And then to hold onto J Sullinger and Melo for 2015/2015 it’s only just above another $2mil each. We got Green through 2016 for $9 mil, I don’t think anyone can argue that isn’t fair market value. Then you got Bass makin’ $6.75 mil through 2015. The only contracts out of this group I think you can argue we might take a hit on value-wise is Bass and Terry. I think Lee and Green’s are fair, and the rest we make out like friggin’ bandits..
So then you have the top three contracts with Rondo and Garnett averaging around $12 mil thru 2015 and Pierce’s last contract at $15 next year.

    • Reggio

      What’s your point?

      • zippittyay

They should lower the ticket prices?

  • 1nsomn1ak

Now don’t get me wrong, I wholly appreciate what Rondo has done for this franchise, but from a strictly winning standpoint can anyone really argue that the wisest thing to do in order to win a championship over the next three years wouldn’t be to trade Rondo either alone or some of the underpriced talent we’ve acquired over the past two years leading up through this past trade deadline for, say, a Marc Gasol? A Zach Randolph? David Lee? Tyson Chandler? I’m sorry, I just think if we were able to add a center of that caliber to the rest of this roster we would be absolutely unstoppable, and if you could get that by trading Rondo if would be completely foolish not to..

    • Mannie

You’re not a G.m for a reason. I’m not either, but just stop. None of those guys you mentioned is a number 1. Chandler?? Talk of winning, you must have not seen Rondo carry the team in the playoffs for the past 2-3 years.

video of jeff green’s baskets and highlights

  • Tyler

The money DA paid to Jeff Green could have been paid to Perkins. The Celts would not have to worry about an inside presence.
