Rumor: Celtics interested in DeJuan Blair, Shelvin Mack?

Chuck - Red's Army February 12, 2013 Rumors 33 Comments

ESPN’s Chris Broussard is hearing the Celtics could have interest in Spurs forward DeJuan Blair.

Broussard claims the Spurs tried to dump Blair in Detroit, but they wouldn’t take him.

The Celtics have nothing to offer San Antonio, except maybe a 2nd round draft pick. So, unless the Spurs are strictly in a salary dump mode (and they are up against the cap), the Celtics are a long shot to land him.

Blair, once a regular contributor in San Antonio, is averaging 13.7 m,pg, 5.2 ppg and 3.9 rpg.

On the bright side, he’s not a risk for an ACL tear, because he’s missing those ligaments in BOTH knees.

As far as replacements for Leandro Barbosa, ESPN Insider Kevin Pelton says Maine’s Shelvin Mack might be worth a 10-day contract.

According to the ESPN scouting report, Mack is:

  • Smart, solidly built pick-and-roll point guard. Good handle but lacks athleticism.
  • Disappointment as a shooter. Solid rebounder. Struggles to create offense.

Sounds like the anti-Barbosa. Crap.

    Bring back D WEST!!!!

Celtics *could* have interest??? WTF kinda reporting is that? Effin’ ESPN…

    • $tephanie95

Did you hear who was reporting-Chris Broussard with his infinite “sources”..lol

      • LAF

        I *could* have dated Scarlett Johansson…or not…or did I?

        • $tephanie95

          Lol..

Chris Broussard: the mikki Moore of NBA sources…guy is simply awful

  • dk

Broussard is useless–the guy is an idiot and offers no insight whatsoever. It’s a joke when hes on WEEI talking about the C’s. Any one of us could do his job, with the “reporting” he does.

    • LA Flake

I think you can say that about every “analyst” on TV. Except Bob Ryan, Tommy and Scal.

I think Blair could be had for a pick, and he would certainly contribute. He’s been solid when got minutes in SA.

As for guards, anyone but DWest…..

  • KY Celts fan

I think Broussard’s source is the comment section of Red’s Army.

I’ll stick with AI, just for the f*ck of it :-P

Anyone think the c’s could trade bass and their first round pick for Aaron brooks (rarely plays) and Thomas Robinson. Brooks is a solid point guard who can score, and Robinson would be a nice pickup considering the hole sullinger left. Comments?

    • Noori

Thats not a bad idea actually

      • seth s

Considering the production Wilcox has had lately, I consider bass very expendable at this point.

    • Curt

      I LOVE IT

  • @MetroDee

    I vouch for Shelvin Mack…it’s only a 10 day

  • RedsLoveChild

    Does it really matter?

At this point…the Celtics might as well set up a M.A.S.H. Unit along side their bench during all future games.

    • seth s

Well, considering their 7-1 record in their last 8
      …. yes, it does matter.

    • Curt

Paul Pierce and Hawkeye Pierce…winning Combo.

  • Roy

Bass and a first is our ammunition at this point in making a trade. Might have to throw in Melo to sweeten the deal for someone. Only way I see this team making a move is through free agency

    • Nate

I care about Melo even less than Bass lol. We need a CAPABLE big stat.

And a first round pick is expendable this year I suppose

  • mrchumpy

I’ve been impressed with DeJuan’s performance every time I see him on the court. He’d be starting now for SA if not for Tiago Splitter’s emergence.

I say give him a shot in Boston!

  • P Funk

Is that a Scal jersey…or DA? Or someone else?

    • P Funk

That comment was meant to go in the Reds Army Party page. Don’t ask me how it got here…

  • piecz

Jannero Pargo is free agent after his 10 day contract expired

  • Shane

What are the chances Charlotte would be willing to give up Ramon Sessions or Ben Gordon for a pick? Would seem to make sense for both sides, wouldn’t it?

    • piecz

I don’t think we can afford Ben Gordon’s contract.

  • OlSkool1972

Shelvin Mack! Really! Danny and Doc need to get their heads out of their behinds and give D West a call. Why are they fooling around looking at fringe NBA players regardless of whatever issues Delonte had in Dallas?

  • Jose

Hey man I’ve heard Philly is listening to possible offers for Evan Turner. I thik we could get him he is a Pierce kind of player(althought not in a million years we will develop to PP34 level of play) he is young a great defender and can fill out 1, 2 and 3 spots (I remember him guarding KG in the ECSF for a stretch). Maybe we have some pieces Philly need such as Bass(since Andrew Bynum isn’t close to a comeback and T. Young is also injured) or even Jet since they’ve lost J-Rich for the season and need some veteran leadership and maybe some picks to sweeten the ot. What do y’all think?

Lol you guys much not know basketball! You guys Jeremy Lin he had all type of people saying he sucked too because they never seen him play. There is a reason shelvin Mack’s name keeps getting brought up he is a beast. Check his college and NBA dleauge stats he is no bum! Just watch you will see

    • seth s

jeremy lin does suck. he’s overpaid…. low assist-turnover ratio. his jump shot is insanely inconsistent…. he’s really terrible. almost anybody is better. i’d rather have eric maynor playing for my club instead of lin….
