Your Morning Dump… Where this is Truth’s house

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) February 4, 2013 Celtics News, Paul Pierce, The Morning Dump 15 Comments

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

“He’s the original Celtic and we go how he goes,” Garnett said. “And nights when he’s not going, we try to obviously support him and help him. But this is Truth’s house, and there’s never been a misunderstanding since I’ve been here. We have all the trust in the world in him.”

Which is why, despite Pierce’s lack of end-of-game heroics this season, most folks inside TD Garden were left shaking their heads as the Clippers decided to let the game clock wind down with the ball in Pierce’s hands.

Sure, Pierce and the Celtics have struggled to produce game-winning shots recently, but the captain always has had a penchant for the big-game dagger. With Boston clinging to a two-point lead after a feverish Los Angeles rally from a 19-point hole, Pierce hit a step-back 3-pointer over Matt Barnes with 2.5 seconds remaining to secure a 106-104 triumph.

ESPN Boston: Paul Pierce holding things together

Once upon a time, people around here wanted to bury Paul Pierce, declaring his career dead amidst a disappointing season.

But as he has every other time Rajon Rondo has gone down, Pierce has elevated his game and is now doing everything he needs to do to help this team win.  All he’s done in the past four games is average just over 17 points, almost 10 rebounds, and just over 6 assists… including one triple double and one game where he fell 3 assists short.

If I may be so bold as to quote myself regarding Pierce’s “demise”

He wants you to buy into that premise; he needs you to. He is begging you to start reminiscing about his younger days, how he grew into a man with the Celtics. He wants you to remember how wild those years with Antoine Walker were. He wants you to remember that ridiculous head wrap he put on to highlight the lack of calls he was getting against the Indiana Pacers during the 2005 Playoffs.

And as you sit there, head tilted up, remembering those 14-and-counting years of improbable, inexplicable grace, Pierce is by you. Again. You bit, because you always bite.

No, Paul Pierce isn’t the same guy he used to be.  Time is an unrelenting bitch, and it will end Paul Pierce’s career just like it ended Larry Bird’s, Bill Russell’s, Michael Jordan’s, and everyone else’s.

But never write him off.  Because that’s when something like this happens.

I predict that PP will be named player of the month sometime in the second half of the season. Not that it’s important, but I just think he is due to explode and sustain it like he does every year.

    • Me

he will win, i want him to win

  • Celtics mom

I have to say I prefer “the house that pierce built”, all the great celtics played in the Boston Garden Pierce was the one who brought the first championship to that building!

  • KGino

Ups to jet for hitting a clutch jumper in Barnes face as well.

To all of you who are ready to trade the captain, especially RLC, in yo mothaf$&!?& face!!

this website was down on pierce…. you guys awful… when am i gonna get a blog saying that the team is better without rondo… or a blog about how things have openeded up since rondo has left please let me get some actual game analysis for once

You understand there is more than one person writing stuff on this blog, right? Some of us were down on him, some of us weren’t. You can’t say “This website” anything, because we have different opinions on things

The team isn’t better without Rondo, only lazy blowhards who like simple solutions think that. The team may be more cohesive without him, they may have temporarily solved issues such as ball movement without him, but the Celtics aren’t better WITHOUT a top 15 player in the league. They have no “explodeability” as I like to call it. Teams who suffer these types of injuries are better in the short term because the team comes together and squeezes every ounce of talent out of them that they have. However, they won’t be getting 44 point, 10 assist, 8 rebound performances against the Heat on the road from anyone on this Celtics team now. The Celtics will certainly utilize the talent they have efficiently from this point on. But because their ceiling is significantly lowered, the Celtics will go no further than they would have with Rondo.

    Last 4 games only???

PP is 23 for 51 {45%} during those carefully selected 4 games…raising his season FG% all the way up to 42%.

He`s really been lighting it up…it would be foolish to think of trading him!

    • Danno

What in hell do you really think you’re going to get for him that is going to actually help the team?

      • RedsLoveChild

Probably nothing…but, it`s worth keeping an open mind.

    • KGino

Too bad for you the game of basketball isn’t all about field goal percentage..

Funny how you neglect that just about every one of his stats has gone up since Rondo/Sully went down just because it doesn’t support your argument.

Give the Captain credit where credit is due.. he has stepped it up like he needed to.. and that’s the real Truth.

But PP wasn’t the reason we were losing games. But he is one of the main reasons why we’ve been winning games lately.

      • eddysamson

I dont think hes the sole reason we were losing but his shooting slump was definitely a factor. A lot of those losses were purely on bad offense and its those types of games PP usually bails us out of.

  • eddysamson

What happened to taking stock articles?

    • Shawn

I agree. I’m guessing due to all the down arrows every game would’ve been but maybe it can start up again.
