Report: Dwight Howard went after Kobe Bryant

More trouble in Laker-land, courtesy the NY Daily News:

Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant just can’t get along, and there’s a team in Brooklyn that might be waiting to pick up the pieces.

A league source told the Daily News that the Lakers stars got into a heated exchange following a New Year’s Day loss to the 76ers, and Bryant went for a low blow – referencing and agreeing with Shaquille O’Neal’s criticisms of Howard being soft.

Howard was restrained from going at his teammate, according to the source, and there have been rumblings from the center’s camp that he’s been unhappy with Bryant since earlier in the season.

Three days after the altercation, following a disheartening loss to the Clippers, Howard complained about the lack of chemistry on the Lakers. It was a comment seemingly directed at Bryant, who is averaging a league-high 22 shots despite playing with three potential Hall of Famers.

I think you all know that I’m not the biggest Kobe Bryant fan, but I’m with Team Kobe in this dispute. Howard is a goof. Ridiculously talented, but still a goof.

Howard hasn’t committed to an extension and the Daily News references Brooklyn as a potential trade partner DH doesn’t re-up with LA.

This is so great, and yet another example of pooling massive talent and money into a team can be so disastrous.

Cant decide who im with on this one, dwight is such a fool but kobe shooting 30xs a night playing ball hog when he’s surrounded by such talent? What a joje

    • eddysamson

This is why Pierce is better. He shoots a lot but he knows how to share and make his team better. If his shot is off he either turns it back on or stops trying too hard. Kobe just keeps chucking.

And because of that I’m going to side with Dwight. You cant play like that with the people they have. Kobe’s had this criticism for years and yet he keeps getting older and worse and keeps playing the same. Its at this point in time, with the Lakers down and everyone hating eachother, that you change your damn ways. If you dont its obvious you only care about yourself and not the team or the fans.

kobe has undoubtedly had a far better career than paul but if i were picking one between the two in a head to head matchup to win one game or a series, i’m going with paul every time.

        • WinstonSalems

take your homer glasses off. i hate the lakers more than you do but kobe is a much better overall player than pierce. don’t get it twisted. kobe is expected to be the best ever. pierce is expected to be the best scorer on his team. i *like* pierce more than i like kobe but i choose kobe in a head to head matchup every time.

I am a huge fan of the Truth and i haven’t been fond of Kobe, but there is absolutely no comparison between the 2. One is a Hall of Famer, the other is one of the best ever…….

I wonder if Howard can interview himself to get an exclusive scoop on the situation.

3 potential HOFers? If I recall, the only potential HOFers on that roster are… Kobe, Nash and maaaaybe Dwight.. Is someone trying to say that the Spanish softy is a HOFer?! Please, give me a break.

    • zippittyay

I hope they are not referring to Mega Whirled Peas…

    • Lets do this Lakers.

I’d rather give the HOF to Pau than D12. Dwight is overrated.

      • LAF

yeah but dwight can dunk! which alone made him a perennial all star.

    • KY Celts fan

It’s the Basketball HOF, meaning international play is taken into account. Pau would probably qualify on that alone, and then you throw in two NBA championships and he’s over the top. Pau’s going in.

    • jon

Howard has alot more to prove before hes an Hall of Famer

  • Lets do this Lakers.

Howard is more of a defensive player eversince his Orlando days. He never showed hinself as a dominant scorer, he was a fool indeed.

    • Double P

Typical blind laker fan, kobe can’t possibly deserve blame right? The guy refuses to take advantage of two of the best big men in the league. Coach deserves blame as well but Kobe is blowing this

      • Spike

        @Double P:Don’t be THAT guy.
In this case I agree that Dwight’s main attributes are mostly on the defensive end. He’s a perenial DPOTY…playing for a team that’s allergic to defense.

        • Double P

Be what guy? I never said DH isn’t a dominant defender. He’s also proven he can score 20+ ppg. This isn’t just about Howard, the while team blows while kobe takes 30 shots a game. You think DH and Pau should get less than 10 Shots a game? I don’t.

  • Noori

Any chance we could make a run at Dwight? lol. I don’t think he’s a goof, the dude actually knows what he’s doing on defense, and I think has a great offensive game. Its just not working with the D’Antoni or rather Kobe system. He helps on D and no one helps the helper.

  • adam

sac and lal do a trade, cousins to lakers howard to sac. I would laugh so hard.

  • Spike

This is hilarious. As much as Dwight was a dink in Orland, the current crisis in LA is almost 100% on Kobe/Management/coaching.
They fired the only person in the world who might’ve had a shot at telling Kobe how to play, traded an offensive minded center for a defensive one, and ended with a coach allergic to defense.

Also, Bean was the only Laker starter with a negative +/- in last night’s loss i’m pretty sure. And it was a -12. So he’s a ball hog and a defensive liability, but at least he has Chuck in his camp!

This will be D’Antoni’s last gig in the NBA.

Howard had 23 boards last night….Any team would gladly take Howard off LA`s hands, as he continues to recover from back surgery.

Kobe feels the “walls closing in”…He`s the closet thing we`ll ever see to Jordan, but he`s frustrated. He`s 34…his supporting cast is either elderly {Nash, Pau} or dealing with injuries {Howard}…he can see the end…still 1 ring behind MJ…surly narcissists all grow worse as they age!

    • KGino

26*.. he’s on my fantasy team.

      • RedsLoveChild

        You are correct…26

Kobe just posted a pic on twitter of him a D12 play fighting..so either this story was blown out of proportion or this is a PR stunt…but Kobe doesn’t strike me as the type that cares about being seen in a good light.
