Recap: Inconsistent Celts fall to Spurs

KWAPT December 15, 2012 Gametime, Recaps, The Team 23 Comments

Celtics drop their 2nd game in a row-tonight they lose to the Spurs in San Antonio, 103-88. This was basically more of the same from Boston: turnovers, poor defense and the inability to make shots when it mattered. Tony Parker easily won the battle of marquee PG’s, lighting-up Rondo and the C’s for 22 points. Parker’s back-up, Gary Neal, was equally impressive, putting in 20 points including 3 of 6 from downtown. Doc must be thrilled the C’s don’t see Tiago Splitter again this season. He once again did pretty much whatever he wanted near the basket to tally 16 points to go with 8 boards.

The Green: Despite grabbing 12 boards, Boston kept Tim Duncan quiet. He was a miserable 2 of 13 from the field for 5 points. Paul Pierce and Jason Terry kept the C’s close at times. Terry was absolutely on fire, dropping 17 first-half points and burying 4 of 9 from long range. Truth had 4 turnovers of his own, but still contributed in many facets-the Captain had 18 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals & a block in 30 mins of playing time. Looking exhausted, KG still played solid defense on Duncan and had 13 & 6 in 30 minutes.

The Gross: Brandon Bass was M.I.A. tonight. Simply vanished. 2 points in 18 minutes. Have to also throw Rajon in the “gross” tonight. He again had 7 turnovers, (14 in last 2 gms) jogged back on defense and looked generally disinterested most of the night. And we have our first player to make “green” & “gross” in one game: Jet. His 17 pt. first-half was huge, but his 1 pt. 2nd-half, where we really needed him, was gross.

The Greenlights:

The Grid: (quick stats)

  • Celtics had a season-high 19 turnovers
  • Sully continued to rebound well-7 boards in 11 minutes
  • Spurs shot 20 free throws to the Celtics’ 8

Boston is off now until Tuesday when they play the Bulls in Chicago. Tip-off is set for 8pm EST.

Thank god we have a few days off. Being a celtics fan is like being in an abusive relationship right now.

    • KWAPT

Ha! I certainly feel the same way…

    • Drew

They’ve been giving us black eyes and we’ve been telling the cops that we “fell down the stairs” for 4 years now.

      • Larry Legend

I disagree with the title of the article. The celtics are consistent. They are consistently average to below. This group hard to stomach right now. Very unlikable

        • Drew

The NY Giants of Basketball. Sneak into the playoffs with a shitty record then dominate.

  • kdb

They need more balanced scoring. They can’t win with only 2-3guys scoring in double figures.

  • Melski

Find a way to start Green.. Pearce to SG and put green in…. He needs to start. Jet needs to bench and explode from the timber…. And tell rondo to run the dang ball up every possession. So annoying watching him play daddy cool walking up the court.

    • Blowitup

      You’re retarded

      • LAF

Rondo just has no idea how to run this team and is the culprit of everything that’s wrong with the C’s.

But THANK GOD he’s a lock to start the All Star game!

        Good job, Rondo! Good effort!

        • Drew

          Troll

          • LAF

            STFU, you redneck!

          • Drew

Haha, how can anyone take you serious?

      • Jester00

I second that start Jeff Green he never hustles Wow

    • nyceltic

An interesting idea you have. At this point its worth a try.

  • Quest

This team is in trouble, plain and simple. All the rest is excuses by loyal fans.

  • Chris

Bass is -43 over the last two games I believe. I don’t hate him like some do, but he is not a starter.

  • celtics33

All the supposed defensive improvement disappears when the Celtics play good offensive teams.

    Horrific perimeter defense again tonight.

Rondo was awful on both ends – missing layups, 7 turnovers for the 2nd straight night and being outplayed by Parker.

Bass continues to look lost and nothing like the player who helped the C’s in the 2nd half of last season.

Another loss and the Celtics inch closer to falling below .500 for the season. Nothing has changed…

I’ll definitely agree that the past two games have been ugly for the Celtics. Rondo seems like he’s playing in molasses and 14 turnovers in two games is just about unheard of for him. But it looks to be the same old story…the C’s play hard in the first half and then run out of gas in the 4th. It didn’t help to be on the second night of back-to-back games, but still…they’re all professionals. But you know what? There is STILL no need to panic. Quest, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to be wrong come mid-February. Keep the faith, GreenHeadz!

  • piecz

I’m sick of missed layups and careless turnovers

    • eddysamson

Missed anything. Cs love to stay in the game til the 4th where they MISS EVERY GOD DAMNED IMPORTANT SHOT.

  • Rjd123

What happened to the Celtics interior defense?!
