Recap: Celtics pick themselves back up at TD Garden

The Boston Celtics came out firing on all cylinders tonight and never looked back. C’s beat the Sixers 92-79 at TD Garden. The Celtics were definitely all business tonight after losing a real tough one in Philly on Friday. Boston’s smothering defense held Philly to just 28 first-half points. It was the usual suspects as KG (19), Truth (13) and Bass (10) all scored in double-figures. Rajon Rondo tallied 7 pts, 11 dimes, 9 boards & 3 steals in another solid game. Jeff Green (more on him in a moment) was huge with 16 points off the bench. Thaddeus Young led Philly, and all scorers, with 22.

The Green: Jeff Green had his best and most efficient offensive game this season. JG put in 16 big points on 7 of 12 shooting in 23 minutes. He was aggressive, yet patient, and really looked as comfortable as I’ve seen him. KG pumped-in 11 of his 19 points in the 3rd quarter where he was 5 for 5 from the floor. Just when Philly looked to be climbing back in the game, Ticket put on a clinic of mid-range jumpers. Man was that fun to watch. Also have to throw Sully in here-again. Jared had 7 points and 9 rebounds, and was just all over the floor in the 4th, where 5 of those boards came. Chris Wilcox was also very effective, going 4 of 5 for 8 points, 3 rebounds & 2 blocks in 18 minutes.

The Gross: The inevitable drought came in the 3rd quarter when the C’s relaxed a bit, allowing Philly to go on a 13-0 run. They managed to cut Boston’s lead to 8, and it was 65-57 C’s with 1:19 left in the 3rd. But Boston took over shortly after.

The Greenlights:

 The Grid: (quick stats)

  •  KG went the entire game without a rebound for the first time since 1997
  • Paul Pierce notched career assist 4,000
  • Brandon Bass & Jason Terry both played better-combining for 8 of 17 from FG and Jet nailed 2 of 5 from 3pt.

Celtics now have another long 3 day-off stretch to rest and get ready for Dallas on Wednesday. Tip-off will be at 7:30pm on Wednesday night.

This is why I don’t like giving this team excuses (tired/old) when they lose the second of a back to back. Plus overtime…Especial against the bad teams. They are professional athletes who are in great shape.

What happened to all the “Jeff green sucks” comments, haven’t seen them in a while. Haha

I think sully should get more minutes, he might just be our best rebounder on both ends of the court.

How wet has Jeff green been from the corner?? I love how he’s strokin it right now

Rondo had 7pts and 11 dimes. This was a very satisfying win. Good thing they have a few days before the next game. KG and Pierce could use the rest.

A solid win good to see green playing well, also real nice seeing sully hitting the boards.

  • Mike Guo from China

KG saved enough energy, that’s why he got not a single rebound and put in 19 big points on 9 of 11 shooting in 23 minutes.

This team is beginning to really put it together for longer and longer stretches. The fact can’t be stressed enough that 10 new players out of 15 just can’t step on the floor and be a cohesive unit. It takes time and learning each other and I think that’s really coming along. Once Bradley returns and is playing for a month or so, this team is going to be frightening to the rest of the League.

Agreed. I’ve been saying this all season… Celts fans already in a panic don’t understand this team.

Looked great again tonight. Hopefully they can keep it going.

Redemption. I’m glad it only took 23.5 hours. Last nights loss infuriated me

  • terlo

rondo was 1 rebound and 3 points short for another triple-double. he might have left in for the rest of the game, no?
