Happy Birthday, Red

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) September 20, 2012 Look Back 7 Comments on Happy Birthday, Red

Today would have been the 95th birthday of our site’s namesake, Red Auerbach.

We take great pride in our name and the tribute it pays to Red.  Red is our leader.  He is our general.  Even in death, his ideals… even the tricky ones… define what we think the Celtics organization should always strive to be.  He never let B.S. get in his way of making the right deal.  He never cowered to public opinion.  He did what he thought was right… and what was best.

He wasn’t always right.  And he was often lucky.  But luck is a by-product of putting yourself in a position to take advantage of opportunities that present themselves.

Red will always be our leader.  We’re always going to be his army.

Please enjoy some of this old ESPN Sports Century piece on him.

  • Nothing but love & respect for Red. Go C’s!

Rest in Paradise Red. We know you’re watching over the team and it’s fans from up above. Oh.. and if you can somehow arrange to have Lebron struck by lightning before the playoffs start, we won’t tell. Thanks.

Lmao. Don’t forget Kobe or is that asking too much?

      RIP Red.

I still pity poor Len Bias for the earful he heard from Red, starting in 2006!

I have always loved my birthday for obvious reasons, but when I learned as a young kid that I shared it with Red it sealed the deal.
