Your Morning Dump… Where Mario Chalmers is out of his G-D mind

John - Red's Army (@RedsArmy_John) August 29, 2012 Celtics News, The Morning Dump 29 Comments

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Peter Emerick: “Rajon Rondo recently said that he’s the NBA’s top point guard. What are your thoughts on that, and where do you think you rank among all the point guards in the NBA?”

Mario Chalmers: “He’s not the best, but he’s in the top five. There are a lot of great point guards in the league, Deron Williams, Chris Pauland Steve Nash. There are a lot of great guards in the NBA so for him to say he’s the best is a pretty bold statement. I’d say that I [Mario Chalmers] am in the front end of the top 10.”

Bleacher Report

ahem…

Excuse me?

The “front end” of the top 10?

Let’s just start naming point guards and see where Mario Chalmers fits.

Rondo
Chris Paul
Deron Williams
Derrick Rose
Russell Westbrook
Steve Nash
Tony Parker
Kyrie Irving
John Wall
Brandon Jennings

… oh?  Keep going?

Ricky Rubio
Jason Kidd
Andre Miller
Tyreke Evans
Ramon Sessions
Goran Dragic

…. still?

No, I’ll stop.  I’ll just mention that John Hollinger, whose rankings are up for some debate, has Chalmers at 48th with a PER of 12.98 last year.  He was 40th in the NBA in assists, with 3.5… out-assisted by guys like Boris Diaw and Joe Johnson.

Chalmers can hit a few threes for you.  That’s nice.  He’s not a turnstile.  And that’s it.  He’s a borderline starting PG, much less anyone whose name you’d drop in the conversation of guys you’d really want on your team.

Maybe he meant in the top 10 of back up point guards?

Now please enjoy a gallery of Mario Chalmers getting burned by Rajon Rondo.

Haha. Nice touch with the gallery.

This is probably the third time chalmers has said this, so it’s nothing new. Just let him enjoy his time leaching off of LeBron’s talent until he leaves to play with Durant somewhere and chalms falls out of the league. Meanwhile, RR9 will still be going after titles and records in Celt green.

  • DJisintheHall

    fuel for the fire

  • Matt in Maine

The NBA might want to drug test Chalmers more often lol. Riding Lebrons sack to a ring doesnt make you a good point guard Chalmers. I could average 3 assists from the bleachers haha

  • Joe MannoHaiti

Mario Chalmers is not in the top 20pg in the league

    • Matt in Maine

No he isnt in the top 20 or even near it. He wouldnt even be a starter if the Heat didnt spend all their money on the 3 queens and could afford someone better.

      • Joe MannoHaiti

        Agree with you Matt

  • Joe MannoHaiti

Russel Wesbrook can’t be in this position.he is not better than Tony parker,Steeve kyrie ,john wall…c’mon

    • http://redsarmy.com John

I wasn’t ranking them in any kind of order… I was just naming names.

    • Chris

I prefer D-Rose to Russ because Westbrook oozes arrogance. However, they play a similar game with in-your-face D and ignoring teammates to make plays for themselves. It’s just more noticeable from Westbrook because he’s ignoring the leagues best scorer.

  • Chris

The two best pure point guards are Rondo and Nash, even with the glaring respective flaws of a consistent jump shot and defensive awareness. Also, I’d take Bradley or Terry over Chalmers, not to mention Nelson, Meeks, Teague, Curry, Harris or Calderon, none of whom were listed though all are better.

  • paul

That will look nice on a bulletin board…

  • Joe MannoHaiti

@Chris you’re right man.Wesbrook play a deep paper on the fall of Ocklahoma in the Final against Miami.his vision is to make point.he doesn’t pass the ball

  • omitasub

rondo dropped 44 10 8 on this nobody. hahaha. this is hilarious

  • Brian

I think its safe to say we are going to see a triple double from rondo on opening night. It’s on national tv so that’s a given, but giving rondo extra motivation is just dumb. When rondo decides to drive to the hoop he is unstoppable.

  • MissMD88

Now don’t stone me but to me Chalmers seemed like an ok player. Not impressive but ok. So I beg Chalmers to riddle me this: Isn’t Lebron James the primary ballhandler on their team? He isn’t even the best point guard on his team! Lebron is! Wade could make a case for 2nd best on their team. Now open it up to the rest of the league and this is just an *eye roll* Moving on….

    • Chris

For this reason, I could see Chalmers off the bench and Ray starting. LeBron is the point forward – he needs to be involved in every play. Chalmers is no more a point guard than Eddie House. And who would you rather have taking all those kick out threes – Ray Allen or Mario Chalmers?

  • Reggie35RIP

    smh… Chalmers? Top ten? Bwahahahaha…

Top ten in delusional NBA players.

  • Drew

Paul Pierce at age 34 with a sprained MCL can run the point better than Chalmers. And record a near triple double in the process. Ohhhhh Chalmers……

    • MJ

Pierce did that before the MCL sprain. Just sayin.

  • CPUFC

Hes just sticking up for LBJs bitch Judas

  • Greentea#34

He’s entitled to his own opinion, but I would say most people would disagree with Chalmers being top 10 including Heat fans. Rondo was once in Chalmers position playing with three superstars. The only difference is Rondo has gradually gotten better and is recognized as one of the or the top PG in the game.

I get Chalmers is confident, but there’s a difference between confident and plain insane.

    • Greentea#34

I might be wrong about Heat fans they’re not too bright.

  • MJ

Jrue Holliday is better than some of the players you listed, but all in all those players I would take all day over Chalmers.

    • Matt in Maine

I would take Bob Cousy today over Chalmers lol

    • MJ

      Also Ty Lawson.

  • Chulinho

At least we now know Chalmers is a part-time comedian.

  • Chulinho

    Also, this:

“For him to say he’s the best is a pretty bold statement. I’d say that I [Mario Chalmers] am in the front end of the top 10.”

    is irony, folks.

  • zippittyay

The only thing Chalmers is in the ‘Front end of the top 10 in the league’ is faking fouls.
