Report: Celtics may invite GW guard Tony Taylor to camp

Knicks scouts brought Taylor Jr. in for another workout just this past week, and reportedly loved what they saw yet again. Addressing his client’s prospects for the upcoming season, BJ Bass of RBA Sports said, “There are a few NBA teams that have Tony on their short list for veteran’s camp, including the Knicks, Magic, Celtics, Heat, Pacers, and Lakers. There are also about half a dozen D-League teams that want him as their starting point guard.”

Though Taylor Jr. garnered early comparisons to the likes of Chauncey Billups and other strong point guards. NBA executives are beginning to compare him, even more favorably, as he continues to impress. A certain Hall of Fame playmaker comes to mind.

“The more I’ve watched Tony develop since GWU, the more he reminds me of Isiah Thomas. I’m not afraid to say it,” Bass added. “Close your eyes and picture him in a pair of Pistons’ blue shorts during his highlight reel and tell me I’m crazy.”

If you know anything about Tony Taylor’s game, feel free to drop us a comment. I couldn’t find one scouting report on the guy.

Regarding the agent’s comparison to Isiah Thomas… every time I close my eyes and picture Zeke, he’s doing this:

  • Shouldn’t the Celtics focus on that 4 year 36$ million deal that they were supposed to sign Jeff Green too? How come we have not heard hide nor tail of it?

    • Chulinho

Given the time its taking, I hope that Danny is working on something miraculous with Green’s contract.

    • RedsLoveChild

That contract is voidable…Ainge had to have been drunk AND stoned when he offered Green $36M!

  • That Figga 11

I watched Tony Taylor compete against TU HOLLOWAY from Xavier who in my eyes was the best Overall Point Guard in the country they went head to head. And Holloway said Tony Taylor is tuff and is very underrated. So I say this kid is the real deal!

I went to GW. I have watched him play for 4 years. He is not an NBA-caliber player. He is at best, if he’s actually dedicated, an end of the bench D-League player. This is a complete joke that his agent is trying to put forth to get him some attention.

Having said that, I’d love him to come to training camp, if only to have a GW player in the NBA (Pops Mensah-Bonsu should be, but that’s another story).

Wow! I guess if you saw him for four years you would never say that. This sounds like one of those upset fans or alum or worse that don’t wish him well.
