Fab Melo turned to basketball because he was awful at soccer

Chuck - Red's Army August 1, 2012 Celtics News, Fab Melo 9 Comments

CSNNE’s Jess Camerato just published her Beyond the Arc interview with Fab Melo:

JC: Who encouraged you to play basketball?

FM: I was playing pick-ups and I was the last one picked, so I decided it wasn’t fun anymore and I started playing basketball.

I know what it’s like to be the last one picked in a pick-up game.  I was awful at bocce.

Fab talks about everything and anything in this interview: moving to the US from Brazil, playing defense in the NBA, getting to know KG, his favorite food, nicknames and more.

He seems like a sincere kid.

He does seem like a sincere kid, I hope he works hard and gets some minutes, he could end up being a steal…

Syracuse is an odd place for a guy like him to end up going to school. I’ll just leave it at that.

    Melo is the ultimate “wild-card”.

If Fab exceeds expectations in the paint…the Celtics will be serious title contenders.

If he could turn into a player like Ibaka I’d be happy.

I like him, seems like a genuine nice guy, and seems to really be ready to learn.
